I’d Like to report the New AT ship name is basically pronounce *in my langage accent* French Canadian A-N***** <(N-Word)
Im from (Name of town), Quebec I can send you picture of where I live. I’ve already stated my concern to someone and they said the name was from a bird and the name origins is french Canadian well here’s the joke that bird doesn’t even live up here its to cold and the name origin is brazilian not french Canadian.
Please change the name of the ship for the sake that Ppl dont miss pronounce it by accident and say a racist word and get in trouble or miss type it on a in-game channel and get ban by a Chat log bot.
I’m just trying to protect ppl from being ban from a avoidable mistake.
word anhinga is not racist in French Canada or anywhere else. It is the common name for a water bird found in the Americas and has no racial or derogatory connotations in French.

Only people who are purposely trying to mispronounce will come close to what you are suggesting. I’ve listened to pronunciations by people who speak the Latin languages, and it is no where close to sounding inappropriate.
I’m from the same region as you, speaking the same language, and I don’t see that, at all. That slur don’t end with a ‘a’, unless you are in Montreal and thus more anglicised. But then that’s immitation of the standard african american pronunciation we hear in american rap music.
But anyway, the ‘n’ before the ‘g’ kill your argument, whatever ending vowel. It made it impossible to pronounce it the same.
Anhinga is not a word I have seen or heard before, so I can’t say what the exact pronounciation would be, but in case of doubt, you can try to use this tool (you’ll find a little speaker icon to listen to the rendered word. Just make sure the “Français” is selected so you get the french lady voice.
I am of the opinion, words have no meaning, until we apply meaning to them. Then they become labels. We need to stop being over sensitive to words and what something “sounds like”. To cite an example of what I am talking about; In China and other Asian countries, they avoid numbering things 4 and 9, elevators will be missing the 4th and 9th floor, because 4 sounds like the word Death and 9 sounds like the word Pain. Just as there are no 13th floors in the states because of a silly superstition.
If we allow words and homophones to control us, then we become slaves to confusion and social regulation. I am not one to go tossing the n-word around. I find it just as offensive to hear it uttered by a black man, telling me it is different. It is no different, it has the same connotation when spoken. For example, simply replace the n-word with slave.

You can see they are both declaring the person as their property. No race owns a word. It is not a trademark.
In the example cited here, this is just a homophone, a word that sounds like another. I have no issue with the ship label and neither should anyone else. A rose by any other name is still a rose.
