In 2017, CCP Falcon announced a significant shift in forum moderation: simplifying the rules from 36 to just 9, aiming to foster a more open and candid environment for discussion. (EVE Online)
That move signaled a commitment to trust the community with more freedom to express themselves, within reason.
Lately, though, I’ve been wondering: have we drifted from that vision? Are we still encouraging open dialogue, or have we become too cautious again?
This isn’t a complaint, just an honest question. What do we have if we can’t speak freely, respectfully, and constructively?
Up right click on “Notifications and account (your character icon)” → “Profile” → “Activity”.
On the following page switch from “All” to “Topics”. Now you can find your topic and keep track again.
Well said. Adding to this: interestingly most people only occasionally get their posts hidden (including myself, and usually it is deserved) while some rare cases a person seems to constantly face such events (again, for a reason).
Maybe a better question would be to figure out why such happen to those certain people and how they could improve their posting habits to avoid such things to happen.
This comes back down to the “freedom of speech” not being compatible with “privately owned platform”.
Nowhere on the open internet is there any sort of freedom of speech and even in the depths of 4chan you’d have posts removed.
The main issue with discussing it is that as soon as you do, some hyperbolic will immediately rush in to accuse you if wanting to normalise “hate speech” or even darker stuff, then at the same time “free speech absolutionists” are in complaining that “you get jailed for a tweet these days”.
The internet should be used with more caution than face to face, not less, as what you say online is always on record in some way (the EvE forums database, the wayback machine, etc) yet people assume the opposite; that they have more freedom of speech online - after all, no one can punch you in the face through the computer.
I believe that we don’t really have free will in any case, whether it’s outside or online; we will always be guided by external factors - You know you can’t criticise a foreign regime for war crimes because you know you’ll be railed for it, similarly, you know you can’t reject society and live in the woods with the tree-folk people because they’re all dead and their lands are now privately owned.
So all I can really do is observe the last days of Rome play out, while trying to minimise my involvement as much as possible when the ringleader eventually abandons the circus and the lions start eating the clowns.
You (and everyone else) come to this forum thus you are the one who should abide by the rules not the rules be tailored to your personal preferences. As the rules are clearly stated it is easy to abide by them, if you decide to… or don’t and you can see what happens.
As explained through the links I’ve posted about the forum software in another of your threads, no post is hidden permanently without moderator confirmation. This means regardless if your posts are flagged or a moderator sees them and takes action, there is a reason those moderator actions occur.
Being a demagogue acting as a victim instead of having an open mind and trying to work in accordance with the rules is the very reason your posts get removed. Why else barely anyone ever face such issues? Something worth thinking about… or don’t and act the same way and receive the same results, the choice is yours.
As this is (yet again) not a constructive exchange as you just continue throwing out tantrum replies there is no point continuing and there is no reason either because…
Several people here provided you with useful feedback in this thread thus your question is answered and have the information to avoid the issue.
Whatever you do with this information is up to you.
Instead of shouting on the forums all over, as explained in the same thread I mentioned, you can privately ask under the post hiding notification comment section what was the problem with the post that it got hidden and a moderator might reply there in private.
You don’t do that because you want to rant openly and cause trouble for no apparent reason aside of spreading pointless drama all over the forums.
