What do you miss about Eve that is now gone?

  1. The old EvE in game-music, current collection is far too small and
  2. Aura’s old voice

There. I said it. Again.

umm, in 2005 we had maybe 3k on at any given time, and it was thought if it went beyond that the hamsters would go up in flames. Actually that was spewed every benchmark we hit as time went on. We had learning skills and the pain was real, but it was a focus.

You had to grind, and I do mean grind for a Cruiser hull. And peeps rolling around in a BS was top of the heap.

Back then you had Northern wars, Goons were not even really a thing, or shortly after adopted by RA to be their meat shields. BoB was the big bad guy, You had cruise missile Kestrels with dual props.

You had real pirates and people like October Snow and Ginger Magician, Tiller et al.

In the 16 years i have played this terrible game, I have seen a lot of changes, and overall they have been good. Yes a lot of changes suck balls, but over all we have moved forward with good and bad and made some decent improvements.

This is who I want to hear from, players who are older than I.

Now I have ask how many players does it take to keep the lights on?

I always enjoy what you post, you have a true gift for bringing out the best in people, :salt: !

Frankly, if ppl had more of a sense of humor and not go all snowflake when someone criticizes their idea, they might go further. Play the game for fun, not profit and profit will come your way by accident. (at least for me anyway) I gave a bil to the guy who had a sense of humor when I threatened to put it on him as a bounty. You never know what can happen in the game. Trying to figure humans is a fun pastime!

Short story long…

A good friend of ours, always on ts with us and a good combat leader in the BF 42 server we hosted had deserted his post with us in this game! He said he was on his way with a bc that would have turned the tide of the battle at that point. Don’t forget, everyone in the game is mostly low skill back then. Then another friend chimes in on ts say “Um, he’s heading away from the battle”. We lost bad.

We put him as #1 on our hitlist. He had gone mining/indy on us.

For 2 yrs we chased him, but he was always on his game and as soon as any of us would enter sys, he would vanish.

Then the day came! I probed him down with an toon he didn’t know. Squirmed it into place, watched him come and go. Got the pattern down and finally called in this toon. I land on top of him, target him and press the fire button. Nothing… Pounding didn’t help either. Turns out, CCP had just introduced the safety on the fire button and mine was set to green. :scream:

Oh well, he came back just in time to save himself as I figured out what was wrong. We all had a good laugh and the grudge was over.

Those were fun times when you had work for a good kill. I don’t see being able to pull off tricks like that in the future…

Edit; Woot! Last week, I lvl’ed 5 every sub cap combat ship cept edencom which I don’t want. There only good for beer pong at this point.

Yeah, I think between 2009 to 2011 was Eve’s golden era, had a lot of new stuff being implemented all the time and like you said, most of us were low skilled.

I remember having to fleet up with 2 other players, all of us in BC’s, just to complete Angel Vigil sites. Each of us had to warp out at different times for repairs and then quickly jump back in to continue the fight.

We tried various tactics and eventually found one that allowed us to stay in without warping out for repairs. Basically I ended up fitting an extreme buffer shield tank on my Hurricane and lead the NPC’s around in a Conga Line which allowed my Fleet Mates to pick them off from the rear. Yeah, lot’s of good times back then.

Also gratz on the skills, how many SP’s do you have now?

I’ve been playing on and off for 11 years now. I remember when skill points were coveted as experience and time in game currency. Nowadays with skill injectors, that number is almost meaningless. Your corp history might be worth more.

Eve Online used to feel isolated from the standard MMO. Everything was player driven and you could feel it in game. Ever since CCP was bought out by another company the whole feeling of the game has shifted into something more mainstream. That’s left a bad taste in our mouths for those of us who have been on for some time.

I’m not an old vet by any means because there are some of you who have never left the game since the beginning.

With the change in atmosphere, came a change in the difficulty that you were proud of. Activities like Exploration used to be a skill you had to practice at and master. Mentioning to other gamers who had heard of Eve but never played garnered a bit of respect in some cases, due in part to the difficulty of learning the game and sticking with it.

The old Eve forced you to harden up and adapt the harshness of the environment and player base. That being said, I’ve heard so many stories of friendships being made from one person destroying another’s ship. I guess it felt more like a playground back then and not the political wasteland it’s become.

I’ve debated coming back recently but seeing this thread has put that idea on the back burner for me. I’ve read a lot of people’s views on it and it’s not the same big, mysterious universe it used to be for me. Maybe if CCP changes their mindset but I don’t think this game is worth the time commitment it once was.

I screwed up and tried to update it without logging in so now I seem to be stuck at the end of Feb. I’ll update as soon as I figure out how.

242,105,890 as of a few min ago. 9 sp per 8 ticks with +5 implants. The yr off shows. But I was damm well not gonna pay for a yr sub while CCP threw different colored piles of dog poo at the wall to see which one stuck.

I picked up a Paladin just to see what all the fuss was about. (no bling) Some guy came in to chk me out and just warped off. I said in local “What, I’m not worth killing?” He said something about being to old and not worth chewing on! lol

Lost it in a disco, flew all the way to jita from farn in the Astero that pooped out the back. (that bay turns out to be handy!) Got a new 1 cheap and sold the replacement that support gave me. I had a mtu out so basically, I got all my stuff back and made at least 250k. I even admitted it to support. They have been very good to me and I wanted to be as honest with them as I can.

Fanfest, or at least the streams, having never been there in the flesh. While I understand that many people are probably very thankful not to have to spend tons of time on building presentations, two years without a Fanfest, without a vision statement, without news about the undoubtfully marvelous things ccp is working on, without an indication of progress in critical areas (like the economy) is a bit depressing.

the feeling of empty space… started in 2004 and i remember mining in my megathron (yes, there were no real dedicated miningships back then) in a 0.4 for days without seeing another living soul in system.

and also able to fend of a ganksquad of 3 or 4 cruisers, because they underestimated the power of T1 ogre drones :joy:

That should be current. What am I missing? :grimacing:

Remember, this is a pvp toon. “Not a pound for air to ground”! As much as I could anyway.

Nice… Now about what you’re missing, how about the 7,824,822 unallocated SP’s sitting in your character sheet.

That’s the part I cant figure out? Last week I reached 150k unallocated sp. I had to use some to get more free ones. I ran it up on purpose to see what would happen. You lose it it seems. But even before then, skills showed only the amount shown while when I cashed in the daily sp and I got an accurate number?

The reason I keep so many unallocated sp is if say another race like the Trig’s show up, then I have a good head start as long as I can get the skill books. Or if they make edencom ships worth flying.

And I just logged in my toon, got the free sp but now it does not show the correct amount when I accept them anymore?

I used the unallocated pile to finish a 20 day skill thinking that would clear it enough for the sp to start showing up again. I’ll have to clear something I guess.

Not sure, maybe try clearing cache in Esc menu and also verify downloaded files in shared cache menu of the Launcher.

I use to keep a stockpile of SP’s too, mainly so I could quickly retrain lv 5 subsystem skill if I happen to lose my T3 Cruiser. After a while I just decided to use the SP’s as soon as I get them. Basically SP’s are easy to get nowadays.

I always took the slap on the wrist from the
YARN | The Vilnius schoolmaster. | The Hunt for Red October (1990) | Video clips by quotes | 97782b15 | 紗 (getyarn.io)

and retrained it up while figuring out what I did wrong.

There are no skills that I need beyond this point as I can fly everything fun without the hassle of null. So I pack away the skills because I refuse to sell sp. I fought hard to get where I am in a game I hardly even play anymore but that doesn’t mean I’m going sell out. I would rather deprive eve of my skills/inventory than let them have the satisfaction of having me quit/biomass. Someday they will come after that too.

I think CCP screwed with the game enough that “You’ll be back” doesn’t apply anymore. Meh…

Yeah, I think so too which would explain the slow drop in player numbers.

I posted my viewpoint about it here.
