When you play EVE, you are accepting the game mechanics, the social norms, and the rules imposed by CCP.
Some people choose to be sheep and others choose to be wolves. This is not indicative of any “mental issue”.
That would be like saying a football player is a “psychopath” for tackling a member of the other team.
However, one could argue that people who play EVE but do not accept the game mechanics, the social norms, and the rules imposed by CCP and instead demand everyone and everything else change to suit their solipsistic solo playstyles… are suffering from a poor upbringing that led them to believe that they are the most special and important thing in the world. In other words: Karens.
Wolves and sheep are immaterial. It’s easy to replace a ship and keep going. It’s not like there is anything anyone can ever do to make me stop stealing ore and ice and toxic chemicals from PI.
I love how people cut and paste what they want to read into my comments. I find it strange you failed to quote the last paragraph. Or maybe you did not bother to read that far. Reading is such a chore?
See there, you fit into my “pirate” definition of ganking. When you take the time to scan down the cargo or know there is a chance to retrieve a good sum of profit from the load, it makes you the better player than those people plunking miners.
Nah… I know how to protect my investments. All you’ll ever get is an empty Hulk. All that contraband will always be tucked away behind a fully tanked Orca.
Personally, I have accepted Ganking is fully supported playstyle by CCP. I was looking into this recently and found out in 2013-2014 they nerfed the Gate Sentry Guns reducing the initial damage output and increase it over time which only benefits Ganking, therefore CCP support it.
In the scheme of things, I would suspect ship losses to Ganking are a very small percentage in the overall ship destruction that takes place so perhaps it is over reported as being an issue.
I do however remember, perhaps with rose tinted glasses in the early years of Eve traveling Low Sec gate to gate or station was relatively safe as gate camps where nearly impossible or perhaps just very rare which I attribute to the power of the Gate Guns back then.
If CCP were to change its position on Ganking all they would have to do is buff the Gate Sentry Guns. If they did that globally it might even lead to opening Low Sec to more players and trade.
I think she meant general norms not specific in-game ones.
So you don’t have to agree with ganking behavior nor partake in it but in general, just like in chess people are expected to be courteous, when defeated shake hand and have no grudges, don’t throw a tantrum when defeated nor flip the chess board and so forth.
I think this general good sportsman social norm was what she was referring to.
I still disagree. You can’t enforce the handshake. There is no way to go to CCP and say, “He got mad when I ganked him. Please ban him.” That’s not going to get you anywhere. People can get mad and they can disagree. It’s not against any TOS to do so.
Hell- read a few of these ganking threads. The gankers are just as vile and venomous as the miners can be. They constantly make troll posts trying to piss people off just because they’ve gotten away with it since forever. Some of them have even gotten a massive amount of posts deleted and they still continue to troll.
It goes both ways and I’m not going to pretend that it doesn’t.
Simply getting angry is lightyears from throwing a tantrum. One can get angry and still have self control not to throw racist slurs and whatnot you sometime see from certain people. Which by the way are indeed against the TOS / EULA.
Me neither, I’ve openly stated am indifferent to ganking and there is also bad behavior from both sides. In the end it is a human thing than a ganker or carebear or whatever thing, some humans are garbage who can’t control their emotions over a vid’ya game.
Anyone who breaks the social norm should be called out and CCP should act to prevent such, without exception.
But of course we know it is their financial incentive to keep as many players as they can so will only act if bad press comes in and it is their bottomline that is under pressure, unless the cases are so outrageous they preemptively act.
But CCP’s practices are not what I personally was talking about, just clarified what I’ve interpreted her words mean. If you want to discuss specific cases that’s not something I’m interested in, but would glady watch the outcome of.
That’s nonsense. First of all, low-sec gate campers uses a remote shield boosting alt. So no amount of sentry guns dps matters to them. They just outheal it. To not be able to outheal it with one Osprey would then just oneshot pretty much anything other than battleships and higher which would be nonsense.
Second, small gangs ad solo players in low-sec are abusing the bug where if you aggress near sentry guns, then warp away and return in some time window, then the guns do not attack that player again.
Your proposal would not have any effect to lowsec. Lowsec gatecamps turned so unavoidable because of several new ships and imodules that didn’t exists before. Namely Keres’s bonus to warp scram range, new implants increasing range of webs and Abyss Mods increasing range of both Scram and Web which in combination with overheat allows to reach absurd ranges with instantaneous scram+web combo. And since that will never be nerfed/removed then the only option to fly through a lowsec gatecamp is cloak then. Especially since these days almost all of them have the sub 2 second instalock setup.
Also, please link the patch notes about the sentry towers damage change. I could not find it.
