What happened to the "High Sec Expansion" we were promised?

So basically you have hit the proverbial wall, with no place to go as it were, my question is why not move to low or dull, kinda my point, you know you got a great chance to be stomped by peeking into low, cyno in at random locations at least gives one a better chance to sneak in.

Tried that. Went on lowsec roams with an old corp, boring. Went ninja huffing in WH space and raiding data/relic sites. Boring. Station trading, industry, took an alpha alt ganking etc.

Dullsec doesn’t appeal in the slightest as I cannot commit to a schedule and have no desire to play space rent boy to the Grand Pimpmongers of blue donut land.

Burned out I guess. Gonna check other games out, see what’s out there atm.

Fair enough.

Can I ask what activity you most enjoyed in EVE, when you were still enjoying it?

Empyrion is pretty good, keeps me going back, elite dangerous, too much of a routine of NPC’s attacking you every few jumps, pulling you out of warp (frameshift drive), and being way over powered, you can’t build anything, can’t trade, contract, etc, I know its not eve but they need to expand what you can do, as others said million miles wide and few inches deep.

I enjoyed “Leveling up my Raven” as it were and exploring the limits of the arena I was in. What could be done, what was feasible and could I make a fast buck for some new shinies to go with new skills.

Although this guy was created in 2009 I started playing in 2005. I guess the game is just looking a bit old and rusty from my perspective now. Maybe if there was major change like dynamic security ratings for systems, randomised ore regen that would spark a gold rush if good ore popped up in highsec.

I’ve got Empyrion on my steam acct. Not played it much as I got distracted by Witcher 3. I’ll have to have another look at it. I played Elite but with the ram griefing and dumbfire missile griefing I gave up, plus I suck at flying tbh.

Thank you very much for you answer, and yes, those are great ideas.

It’s hilarious to me that “a more dynamic experience in Empire space” is now a stated focus of CCP when the game’s been around for nearly 15 years.

The high sec is the worst place in current game layout.

Reading through the forums you would always read about people been ganked, scammed, war decced to the death. Got poor reward in terms of LP’s and Exploration. Missions are old and so freaking boring so the only point to run them is to get access to burner ones. Mining is not much profitable vs. Low and Null so the only activity is ok to do is station trading. That’s why we saw 752T in Jita’s market. In all other aspects HS is like oriental markets where people overcrowded the place for only one good reason.

A big shake up is needed to add a new element to highsec. Randomised nuggets of goodness that can be grabbed by anyone, not just reserved for those who can summon huge battleship fleets.

That and a much more dynamic mission generation system could spice things up for new and old players alike.

Edit:

The Resource Wars and FOB sites are a good start but something for combat missions could be done. Low lev missions, T1 frigs only encouraging small teams of 2-3 to go in with one maybe kitted for logistics and learn the basics of teamwork for newer and solo players. The rewards need to be tasty enough to be attractive. Good LP and isk, enough to make it attractive for small time and solo players to want to team up for it. Not something that needs a dozen Battleships with full logistics backup.

I don’t know. Between insta-warping fits, covert cloaks, MWD-cloak trick and wormholes it is pretty trivial to move around lowsec. Maybe those strategies are not made obvious to newer highsec players, but lowsec is pretty safe to move around in if you take precautions. In fact, the public nature of a cyno makes is more risky than those other options.

As for the OP, we got a light highsec expansion with some promising new content. Both need iteration, but the new NPCs promise to shake things up a bit as we go forward and create new and more complex types of gameplay, and the Resource wars may need some increased/different rewards to get more players doing them and interacting.

Really, we need a real highsec expansion with a complete revamp of crime, war, smuggling and bounty hunting mechanics if we are to see any real reinvigoration of highsec.

I’d put the GTFO module that they’re putting on citadels, randomized, on all high-facing gates except those in FW so that once every hour or few hours everyone on the low side gets pushed somewhere else in the system and there’s a brief window to egg scramble in through the gate. Both sides can use a relic or data module to get the timing for the current day (changes each downtime) and plan strategy accordingly.

Maybe even allow entosis to alter the timing or force a flush, but the pilot goes suspect doing it.

There should also be some sites in between difficulty level 4 and 5 in the .4 band that don’t require much more than a disposable PvP fit cruiser to encourage some cheap risk-taking because a lot of the combat sites right now either need an expensive smaller fit or a larger slow fit to complete them to the point that most of those fits also work in null with few modifications.

Many players will quit playing rather than leave high sec. Dangling tasty carrots before the noses of the high seccers hasn’t worked so are CCP resorting to “punishment patches” to force players out? Damn stupid of them if they are.

Players won’t change their style of play like that apart from a tiny minority. All they’ll see is CCP playing favourites with the nullseccers and silently detach themselves from the game and move on to newer products.

I believe this is what ended happening. For better or for worse the game is becoming a “niche” only for the few. I always disagreed with this direction, but I think CCP has made peace with their decision and maybe even embraced it. I say this because there was a time long ago (c. 2007) when CCP actually promoted and developed different types of play styles, including the dreaded “carebaring” professions (e.g., mining and missioning). Hell, I remember a time when CCP devs themselves would actively participate in the forums and openly admit they were “carebears”. Of course, there were also pirate devs. But my point is every profession seemed to be adequately represented by the development teams. The game was so exciting back then. It was quite enjoyable for me to log in and do missions or mine. Patches brought in plenty of new development.

That isn’t the case anymore. People have been driven out without a care for or thought of the long-term consequences. The assumption was they could always be replaced by “higher quality” players that “get Eve”. Except they never came. Like I said, I think CCP has already made peace with this and at this point are simply milking the cow before it croaks. At least that’s what it seems like to me.

I think those changes will help large groups, but CCP really hasn’t helped small groups in any space for quite some time.

Low sec is a paradise for racial FW LP farmers who actually turned into “LP carebears”, some profitable explo and ofc camping of bottleneck systems. Otherwise I don’t see low sec filled by alpha crowds.

Looks outside the window in the deep south, sees an inch of snow in a location that hasn’t seen snow in nearly 6 years. Looks at thermometer and sees coldest temp in 9 years. Yup, winter is definitely over.

It’s warmer most days in Reykjavik than the inland Mid Atlantic region throughout the Winter. We are 30 days into winter by the calendar.

Six days ago it was cold enough to freeze 18 percent apple wine and extract the condensed remainder. It does taste fine on a cold winter evening.

I think everything CCP has done is kinda OK for starters, but needs to be furtehr developed.

The agency events are mostly newbie friendly, some fun fighting over boxes and good booster farms. Some need rework.

The FOBs are a big peeve. The idea is sound but needs rework. Needs to be a lot more of them and more frequently and they need to be a lot more accessible so that more people do them and far more frequently.

The resource wars again are a decent starting idea but needs much more work. The resources gathered need to mean something, for example stronger FW for the faction that gathers more recourses, etc. The rewards need an absolute passover as they are complete junk. The sites themselves need to be not just for miners but also for just combat pilots without miners. If I blow away all the enemy NPCs at a site then the NPCs should be able to mine it and complete it on their own. The sites need to last longer, not expire so quick.

yesh but it is +15% normal ore, not moon ore

thats the very nature of the game itself.

You cannot go to a Ferrari Car dealer and ask them you make their Ferrari look more like a Peugot. Its not gonna happen. In that case you are probably not looking for the right product.

Keep in ming that CCP is Developping a sandbox-like game and they do it their way, unfortunatly, no matter how much you love what the game could become according to your desires.

Ask yourself what do you want: a Ferrari or a Peugot. Go to the right car dealer.

Pretty much this.

We got the High Sec Expansion CCP wanted to give us.

Not the High Sec Expansion we wanted to get.
