How does the ganking hurts new player retention argument stack up against the reality, that Iâm the noob, and the people being ganked are the crusty bittervets?

A few comments on suicide ganking:
As long as it is the âfunâ stuff, like with tornadoes, with ample counter play, no one can really be against it. They can be killed, and there is some balance between risk/loss and reward.
Ganking with very cheap catalysts, in groups of sometimes several dozens, is where it starts to become questionable. There is no real counter play to these catalyst fleets except trying to be inconspicuous, doing the usual intel work (and feeling murderous and a bit frustrated at the same time). With only one Jita <> Amarr hisec route possible (âthank youâ ccp for taking Niarja away, yay sarcasm) that has pipe systems the effect of this type of ganking is more obvious. That is the type of suicide ganking that poses an issue.
With very little in the way of some level of self-restraint on the part of the suicide gankers, angry posts and threads will become more numerous and angrier. CCP might give in to that. You donât really want CCP to step in, it will take away freedom in the game - it always does.
Hereâs an example. Six or maybe seven years ago there were a few notorious players who turned stealth bomb ganking on gates into an art form, pretty much in the same way as catalyst gankers master their art (and the cata fleet ganking is an art, itâs beautiful emerging game play, and smart). Part of the nullsec community cried very loudly, nerf stealth bombers, getting bombed in nullsec was so unfair, etc etc. The result was the removal of command broadcasting (the perceived problem was multiboxing players running entire sb fleets solo), a first round of ugly nerfs on the stealth bomber hulls, and even a concrete plan from ccp Fozzie to make it possible for bombers in the same fleet to decloak each other within 2000m. That was, of course, a horror scenario that would simply abolish sb fleets, their only protection being ability to cloak and stay cloaked until the bombing run starts. Luckily the folks at ccp came to their senses for at least that part of the plan, after reasonable protest from the sb pilots. But the damage was done. There was a first significant drop in PCU because of the embargo on command broadcasting. PCU of course equals income for ccp.
Do I ask for restraint on the part of the catalyst suicide gankers. Nope, because that is asking too much. I ask them to think about it, and perhaps switch over to another doctrine before the hammer falls.
Come to think of it. If a criminal flag would also deny a pilot to cross a pos shield (same as not being able to dock), at least some level of counter play would open up. Itâs a bit silly to see Concord ships hanging around a POS tower with a bubble of reds inside, as so many limp bananas.

Heh, check again, the order of characters listed is based on amount of replies posted to the thread.
I think that there should be a similar module to the one that BS can fit for freighters. Would be good to see that work out.

Ganking is the great equalizer, with no safe space for carebears, new players have the opportunity to succeed against lazy losers.
