Not having an extra-terrestrial foe to fight that are found in all genres of games is keeping more people away. Fighting aliens, such as the Predator, Alien or Zerg or the Undead for example is a mainstay in most sci-fi games. Without the typical aliens and non-human factors being present in a game, the game will remain on life support only and never fully live.

It’s an old game. It was designed years ago for the type of player that don’t exist anymore. Today it’s all about instant gratification, no-risk PvP, lootboxes, etc. For some people it’s just unacceptable that they will be loosing 10% of their income to gankers or they need to play for few years to reach certain level and fly certain ships.
How to fix it: Don’t! EVE has it’s niche that will be getting smaller and smaller, but fixing that would require a fundamental changes and that’s not an option.

this is kind of accurate, but I dont think many real gamers are clamoring for the egambling rubbish of CoD or halo req packs etc. That stuff is shovelled into every modern game not because its a beloved feature, but because data analyst jerks in suits know that they can manipulate enough people to make it a cash cow.

When i used to no life this game I was delicious meat for every gankers sandwich and I even took some hits here and there. But back then the game did also have a little bit of content outside big fleet pvp (which isnt an option as an australian player, none of those big groups are active in AU primetimes) AND it wasnt a financial question mark as to whether or not i could afford to play the game. Oh and the free version didnt exist so everyone who was whacking my multibox mining fleets was a paying player by plex or sub.

I dont think the game will “die” anytime soon but its a very solid niche thats also quite expensive for what it offers which barely struggles to go beyond pvp only these days
