What is Causing EVE to Die?

The vision of most in this thread would kill this game. This game has had High Sec and has survived twenty years with it, but one of the most common themes in this thread are that High Sec is killing this game. It’s amusing!

If the current generation of EVE players had their way, EVE would be nothing more than a perfectly safe Farmville in space…

Not true.

Another “The End is Nigh Repent” thread… meh. Making Eve Online more popular would require a blend of strategies aimed at attracting new players while retaining its hardcore fan base.

Solution:

  1. Simplify the Tutorial Process
  • Eve Online is notorious for its steep learning curve. Most of the players who haven’t left this game, took the time to learn from YouTube and EVE University. A more intuitive tutorial system could help newcomers get up to speed faster without feeling overwhelmed. Offering a more protection and engaging starting experience, maybe even some guided missions or not allowing new 30 day players to get attacked in high-sec would go a long way.
  1. Improve the GUI
  • The default interface layout is a mess, as a result, it can feel very cluttered for newcomers. Don’t offer up transparent windows on day one, set the default font higher, and reduce the initial number of opened windows. Offering current customization for the UI would let players ease into and tailor their experience as they grow more comfortable with the game.
  1. Enhance Player vs Environment (PvE) Content
  • While Eve Online is obviously PvP focused, adding more engaging and rewarding PvE content could attract a broader audience, especially those who prefer solo play. More detailed and story-driven PvE missions that tie into the lore would help keep the game interesting for non-PvP players and give them something to focus on while still progressing in the game.
  1. Make the Economy More Transparent
  • Eve Online’s player-driven economy is a huge selling point for the game. Access to the galactic market beyond a single region could help players understand the intricacies of the economy. I still use Eve Tycoon website to check my commodities. This one website allows me not to play the game until I decide to collect. Giving the current tools in game more feedback to players trying to build a business or market empire could encourage them to invest more time and effort into the game.
  1. Incentives for Group Play and Corps
  • Building a stronger social network within the game could help players stick around longer. Missions or in-game challenges could reward cooperative gameplay, bringing players together and giving them more reasons to fleet up.
  1. Commercial Marketing
  • I honestly get sick of “This game … you’re not ready for it.”. It has become a private joke between my friends and I. They don’t even play Eve Online. When the mainstream commercial is a joke, it tells you how mismanaged the marketing department must be. The simple solution – and you can look through my forum posts here on this – Truth in advertising. Stop the falsehoods and hype about what the in game looks like from a first person pilot shooter in space. Eve Online is not No Man’s Sky or some other space shooter. Show the players the truth instead. Build upon the AI computer driven combat, show the viewer that it takes brains and not muscle reflex to win a battle. Show them to get ahead in this game they need to make corporate friends to defeat enemies and PvP is not for the lone wolf.

Looking this over, it is up to CCP to change their game and procedures. The players are not responsible for the popularity of their game. We are not clients, we are their product.

Would be used and abused on day 1. Vet players would use brand new Alpha characters in cheap T1 haulers to haul their goods to Jita in perfect safety.

The only way to do any of what you suggested is to get rid of free, unlimited Alpha accounts.

Ture. But anything can be abused. A chair is meant for seating, but one can pick it up and bludgeon another to death with it. Should chairs be considered lethal weapons?

Again it is up to CCP to plug the leaks.

And the only way to do that is to get rid of free Alpha accounts and go back to subscription-only. And they aren’t going to do that…

Lots of players have all kinds of ideas about what needs to change in EVE. 99% of them want those changes solely to benefit their particular playstyle, no matter the detrimental effects it would have elsewhere…

There’s half a dozen of these selfish ■■■■ monkeys posting regularly in this thread and the wardec thread.

If you look at the OP in each thread and see who’s at the front of the line in the “Top replies” box, you’ll find the worst offender.

Mr Epeen :sunglasses:

Could it be true that @Kezrai_Charzai is really Princess?

No sweetie, she doesn’t have forum alts.

So she is not the beautiful, smooth and heavy ganker that froze our hearts for all eternity, as long as the stars are shining in New Eden?

Yet how do you know this?

Because she said so

I am not quite so noble as Her Royal Gankiness, sorry.

‘The line’ forms from left to right - you had it backwards.

(Or it’s possible you were sorting by ‘Most liked’ rather than ‘Most posts’, which I believe is what Mr. Epeen was referring to.)

That was because I was looking at the same Mirror of Erised. that Glenduil is referring too.

I don’t see you or anyone else who disagree with my other points in that post. I will assume the remainder of my post is what matters. I know CCP won’t remove free to play accounts, it is not in their best interest. Also it won’t matter, if they did, to the many alpha players who already seldom play the game. Removing the alpha accounts would have the most effect on those vets abusing them for making ISK to mine Plex for them. While I only run an alpha account here, I seldom play PvE or PvP. I just drop in to juggle my markets. I don’t even really “spend” the profits anymore. To me this is just a stock simulator. Once in a great while I might move stuff in a hauler, but it seems more tame out there than ever before. Eve returning to 100% sub would not matter to me. I just disagree with the notion, the players are responsible for killing an online game. We all know the developers and the publishers are in charge.

That mirror that you had referred too sure must be addictive as how could there be less safety, more carnage while allowing Capsuleers still being able to do their own thing?

There will be a balance and I strongly feel that they have the balance that we need for the future of New Eden.

Having a greater sense of safety becomes rather bland so that would not make EVE great again.

Fine tune the balance between safety, carnage and Capsuleers will be able to do what they want to do.

Happy to be an ‘offender’. Especially if it annoys you in particular

The forum needs more p̶e̶o̶p̶l̶e̶ w̶h̶o̶ a̶c̶t̶u̶a̶l̶l̶y̶ c̶a̶r̶e̶ a̶b̶o̶u̶t̶ E̶V̶E̶ ‘offenders’

How is there less safety? 12 years ago, you’d get gate camped just for being on autopilot. There was no Alpha. You had to pay your sub or you couldn’t log in yet there were still attacks all the time. Lots of people and lots of fun. Now? People are lazy.

Apparently, many don’t!

Hubris is a trait that will get you killed in this game. I was very good apparently, but there always better players. Grid Fu as an example.

I used to do that with my Orca for new players when I tried mining. Turned out I would rather watch paint dry. At least new players were worth trying to help back then.
