The scam behind the entire game is paying for reduced timers to continue the adventure. Not a bad idea because it’s basically the same as being an Alpha and Omega. The timer that keeps you from piloting the better ships and higher-level activities is the Omega subscription.
Maybe using PLEX isn’t such a bad idea in Eve. Pay some PLEX and have any timer reduced, but never cancelled entirely.
