What is this CCP?

That was my question as well.

This isn’t some quantum physics problem, that it’s difficult to figure out. Nor is it problematic to find information on the subject on the internet:

That’s just the first credible source on the topic I found on 5-second search.

okay okay. you are right. it has an impact. sure

It’s not so much that we use the 'Net so much. It is how we are connected to the 'Net and the amount of people globally becoming connected to the 'Net.

On that level there is some concern as amount of resource is used in building and maintaining the physical things and components. As well as what is already in use, especially building for servers, towers, and satellites. On that I can agree that we need to be aware. But at the moment it looks as though it is barely being looked at or taken seriously.

right. the amount of data you use does not really have an impact on those things
i mean, maybe it does, cause you have to have a device running that uses electricity. but that is not the actual data that’s causing those problems

once the infrastructure is set up, it is there. it’s not like they rebuild your wires every second day.

the article mentioned starlink. i am curious if it is that good. but the receiver you need is like 350€ a bit much just to test it

I’ve seen it somewhere that people compared “regular Google” search and search performed “by AI”. Search by AI required like 1000 times electricity used by “regular” search.

Electricity by itself is not free. It has some significant footprint on Nature.

Looking from this POV one can say amount of information processed has direct price payed by Nature.

Clearly these patches are extremely important to CCP with the amount of trolling in this post.

Almost makes me bother actually figuring out what they do.

yeah. please go and figure it out. another 1 GB patch today

and another 400MB patch today

At least today had patch notes…

another patch today…

and why do they write it as MiB ? it clearly is not Mebibytes… did those people ever learn their craft?

edit: okay. i was wrong maybe

there are datas to download

i hate datas to download

so, if they ARE using MiB correctly. it is EVEN MORE data! :index_pointing_at_the_viewer:

Why is there a 150mb “update” every day

In the UK, 98% of homes have access to unlimited broadband…and there are even special social deals available ( by law ) for poorer people.

Just as there are certain ‘minimum specs’ for games and it is not the gaming company’s fault if your PC doesn’t meet those, so too is that the case with internet speeds, etc. It is not CCP’s fault if you are running EVE on a ZX81 via a 56K modem with a metered network.

Don’t waste your energy on these assclowns… They did an update about two weeks ago that totally screwed up the price histories and they still haven’t fixed it… Looks like it would be too much trouble for them to undo all the updates to fix their untested stupidity, so they are just leaving it all screwed up… Unfortunately, they only care about making the game look falsely profitable so they can sell it to a company who is unaware of what is really going on with it…

i am happy for the people in uk. good for them.

Unless you are in some remote area of the world, unlimited access for households is in the 90%s for most developed nations.
