Double whammy from Kurzgesagt… and you really want to see them both. Trees are insane.
Now, one concept to understand about the tree/fungi root systems, it’s not each fungus claiming “this is MY root, this are MY sugars/water and minerals”, rather they all become a collection zone where matter is exchanged by everyone at once because all fungi in the forest are one single individual… fungi clone themselves over and over again until they cover kilometres with themselves, and fungal spores are their means to expand into some other species’ grounds.
I hope Kurzgesagt sometime will dive into how do plants work, because they’re also insane… FAI, plants make decisions passively by how the environment alters the hormones they produce, and that passive system is amazingly sophisticated. Plants have no mind and yet make decisions in ways that give a run for their money to animals.
