Now, can anyone here think of a company that only ever made one successful video game and keeps burning money to either join fads after they’re gone or enter a market owned by effin behemoths…?
Like, EVE but it’s on blockchain because ~reasons~ (and now we own 40 millon $ and our kneecaps to a VC loan shark) and yet another FPS after their last one crashed and burned by being introduced to the players?
Has CCP even tried to make something else than EVE and succeeded?
Rovio biggest problem was in its end. Not just understanding the mobile market, but seeing a short term cash as a means to being profitable. An interesting factoid about such companies that have this model. That is the model of a vulture capitalist. Get in squeeze the money out and bail. What rovio tried to do was dumber by far.
It got in and fell backward into a success. That it then did everything possible to sabotage. All in pursuit of other quick money making efforts. Had it stuck with angry birds as its flagship game. The other games that it developed as a better means of keep the money rolling in. Angry Birds would be dominating the mobile market.
The fact it had the mind set of quick profits an in and out mind set. Did far more in making rovio a cautionary tale of how a business that does not understand its own business model. Can crash and burn. Rovio is not the first business to fall down this rabbit hole. There are companies that built a name, a loyal customer base, and threw it all away for short term profits.
FC by contrast is tying to develop a long term strategy of incorporating and supporting it flag ship game of EVE Online. It is an innovation that few other gamming companies have tried. Is it a gamble. Of course it is. Will it work. Time will tell.
At the same time FC has other games in this same genre. That is developing. The other game is a seeing if a Crypto Block Chain game is worth the effort. Maybe it is .. maybe not. But FC is a least trying to be innovative.

He just died two days ago, aged 83. An absolute master of close-up magic, his card games would blow the minds even of professional magicians.
Here’s one of his games, for an English speaking audience. Playing air violin, the tan-ta-ta-chan! war cry, the high hat along with his peculiar clothes, bad teeth and dad jokes were all part of his charm.
And he was so damn good with any amount of card decks…

What a clever scam…
In one hand, Uber pushes to lower commercial auto insurance as much as possible.
On the other hand, Uber owns said insurance and it’s essentially paying insurance to itself with riders’ money.
And that eats away 20% of the fare that used to go to the driver and now is part of Uber’s share, which goes beyond 50% of the fare paid.
And it’s all legal until someone starts a class action for stealing money from users and drivers in order to pay itself under the guise of a so called “insurance” that tracks the fare and not the risk.
PS: could you imagine if Uber tried to pull this sh¡t against actual competition…?
