In EVE Online, the undisputed least profitable gameplay loops per time invested are solo High-Security (Hi-Sec) mining (specifically Venture mining of standard Veldspar/Plagioclase)** and Level 1–2 Security Missions**. These activities often generate less than 1 million to 5 million ISK per hour, severely lagging behind the 100M+/hour averages of Exploration or Faction Warfare. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Why These Activities Fall Short
High-Sec Solo Mining: Mining basic ores in a solo frigate (like a Venture) in 1.0 to 0.5 security systems produces negligible volume and relies entirely on stagnant, highly contested market prices. [1, 2]
Low-Level Security Missions: Running Level 1 or 2 missions provides very low bounties, and the Loyalty Points (LP) earned yield minimal conversion value compared to running higher-tier combat sites. [1, 2]
Mining Missions: Specialized Distribution/Mining agents often task you with harvesting specific, unsellable ores for nearly zero payout, making it a trap for newer players looking to build up wealth
The way people whine about it all is really rather crazy.
Look at a structure, instead, as just a ship you are locking in position in space. Ask yourself whether you’d leave any of your other stuff just sitting there in space and wander off. Well, that is what you do with a structure. And comparatively that structure is not ‘weak’ at all. A 2bn ISK Vargur can be ganked in seconds by half a dozen Tornadoes. Those same Tornadoes would take half an hour or more to wreck the shields of a station…AND have to come back next day for the hull.
And all of that does not even take into account that even a small corp can defend a structure. Of course that does not mean they cant encounter overwhelming force…but overwhelming force occurs all over EVE and is how the big corps got to be big in the first place.
The REAL issue in EVE is people doing stuff when they are not yet ready to do it.
Well, I just got ganked. On the forums, that is. I guess you’re not fully availing yourself of the “true” non-consensual EVE experience until you offend some special snowflake(s) with a harmless suggestion.
Since I started this thread, I can always revise and update the question: What would you do if you couldn’t gank due to FC removing red safety in high-sec? (other than mass-flag the post, that is)
Well…I’d finally have the time to play Far Cry 3, Far Cry 4, Far Cry 5, Scorn, Cyberpunk 2077, and a bunch of others I bought but have barely played. And think how many MORE games I could buy with that saved £37.50 a month EVE subscription.
It was the ability to wd null blks, which if we still had, you would hardly see any ganking. Long before ganking, there was “griefing” with no consequences for that at all. You would have wet your diaper at that point in the game.
We joined with an apx 30 man corp who had been running a BF 42 server for yrs so we all knew each other well when we joined. Our FC was ex null with an absolute hatred of null and its abuse of the game and a masterly command of the game from a null point of view. No wonder we did so well.
Back on topic. What would I do if I couldn’t gank. (which I never did anyway) What I’m doing now. Not paying CCP then and FC now any money for a game with no challenge.
Sorry, I just gave up. I was making billions in a wh, but to what purpose? Just to give it away to noobs who showed promise? I did it more to promote the game but that came to nothing as well. I was hoping that some bitter old vet giving away 5 bil at a whack would get some news, but meh…
Is that even a thing?
Not sure what’s worse - extra salty or extra apathetic? Salty means at least we’re still in the game Apathetic means we’re just waiting for our Omega time to lapse…
