I always admired Keith Eaton; a longtime fixture in the help channel. Back a decade or so, help channel was much more busy and filled with relevant questions. Keith was almost always there with near instantaneous correct answers and valuable links to informational sites/aids. I can’t recall him getting upset at the ocassional troll and he could keep multiple questions and their threads straight even dealing with a large number of people. There were times I harbored a suspicion that Keith was actually some group entity or CCP backed, because he was that good in help.
Now days help channel is perhaps 50% of the traffic and filled with tons of trolls. You can still get some answers to your questions, but nowhere near the speed and accuracy that Keith was able to achieve. Perhaps he didn’t create new content, but he sure explained it all to the rest of us.
@Giddy_McFee mostly real life taking time now, and honestly having played since 2003, it’s a bit tough to keep the excitement up, mainly since my play style of being a 3rd party kind of became useless over night from CCP’s changes.
So now I enjoy just spinning my ship and talking to the locals. There’s so much new stuff in the game since I started to ramp down the online time that it would take a lot to get back in, plus much of it is still for groups of players rather than the solo carebear
But I have no regrets or bitterness, it’s been good to take it a bit slower, and I still feel very fondly of the game despite all its changes from what used to be.
A pleasure. I started playing actively this year again. I might not have fabulous locks anymore… but I am absolutely fabulous now.
Too many I was still a terrible person killing anybody that flew past me blinking red. But if you were new I had no issues giving you isk for the loss and explaining to them what happened, why and how to avoid me. I even do that now… but shhh don’t tell anybody.
While i looked up to people in the game i never had an eve hero. The closest I would say somebody ever got to that was Draga Listner who took me in as noob. They wardecced us and I was the only person that would throw myself at them so he took this noob (me) under his wing. Showed me the basic and fitting and PVP and I went on my own.
My hero is the one who can build a wormhole fortress, pvp solo against greater odds while half asleep, be a entrepreneur with his/her niche in the market. and have an enduring infamy?
My hero is the all-around player interested in all facets of eve minus childish behaviour.
Tuzzy (spelling? / not sure they still play? / not sure their avatar is even named Tuzzy?):
Guy that does all the backbone work for the Goonswarm, very nice, always patiently answers questions (even my stupid ones). Also, frequently gave out free market information that could make you space rich in what was usually a 4-6 month turnaround (assuming you had a couple hundred billion seed money, anyways).
These guys were the closest to what I can call my “heroes”.
I don’t know how often I’ve watched this video.
This video made me try something new every time I’ve watched it.
When I got sharper screens, I’ve usually tested it with this video on a higher resolution.
