Why antigank?

Funny enough I ganked before I actually AG’d, but it was a bot Russian miner who kept on mining the same rocks as me and I failed the gank to boot. I think I started to AG mainly because I saw it as a easy way to make ISK and wanted to make it harder for them, but it was only a casual thing for me. For a large period of time I would go about my business but keep an eye on AG intel and when I saw something near me I would go try and help.

Because I did not want to get tied down into any commitments, I avoided contact with the leadership of AG it was only later on that I got to know a few more than casually. But I did get to know quite a few active AG players. As for the charge of being toxic, the only toxic AG players were the alts of gankers stirring up shite. I came across a fair few upset victims, who vented their ire somewhat, but that was just the heat of the moment stuff and nothing to get upset about as most calmed down and chilled about it. In fact the majority of people that were victims were quite chill about it.

The toxicity of the ganker community however was really bad, some I could talk to, but many were after emotional content and would try to pull peoples leavers to get an angry response. As I often played games where you make the opponent angry so they make a mistake I was sort of OK with it, but I knew it was damaging to player retention and at times I began to see a worrying focus on tears as being the main reason to gank by some…

Like many the tears from gankers when you blew them up or prevented the ganks were often pretty intense, though some were amazingly chill at being stopped or having their loot sniped.

All in all I think the main reason I did it was because it gave me some PvP content when I was in hisec, as soon as I went to nullsec I focussed on nullsec.

And another thing, successful AG often resulted in nothing happening, for example if you set up to prevent a gank on a miner and the gankers don’t go for it that is a win. Just being in system could stop a gank. parking a HIC to nab the looter often worked and when you managed to catch the looter full of loot it was glorious.

The miner AG activity for example, I hardly got any kills on Catalysts going after miners in belts as they did not attack when I was waiting for them. But real fun was intercepting them on gates, if anyone wants to do AG setting up to nab -10 gankers is funny as hell.

I did not enjoy repping because it was often a failure, but sometimes when you had a fleet it was great fun and worked well. Thotaman however does that really well, saves stuff that most can’t.

Commitment does play a huge role and reason I feel that Capsuleers can seem to be all over the show. Sometimes it could even be due to patch changes to Eve Online that trigger the Capsuleer

I did suggest once that we team up and kill freighters from bot farmers but trust issues are hard to get over…

Anyway how do you know Aiko invited me to gank with her :face_with_monocle:

Sucked at ganking so became an anti ganker - that’s new.

Triggered, I have no fears on detailing my failures, I found it amusing too, but it was before Catalysts had the the ROF buff so we ended up using BS’s, which is even funnier.

Low skill and unsuitable skill mix, things were not easy for gankers in 2009, was funny as hell.

Also I said quite clearly that my reasons to do AG was because it had become an easy ISK making method, I would also point out that not everyone can gank successfully. I have ganked successfully scouts numerous times with an alt, so I can’t be called a failed ganker :stuck_out_tongue:

We all make mistakes, any more detail on what you actually did on that one?

The sneaky bugger was mining in high sec.

Ah, at a guess you thought you were in lowsec, happens…

Haha yes, I remember that. What are the odds of that…

But then

Why don’t you be honest here.

Ganking was too hard for you. You want it to be easy. But it wasn’t. So you justify the failure by (being? You don’t play anymore) an anti-ganker. Which is equally as difficult.

You only read what you want to understand, I referred to this failed gank being before the -25% ROF penalty was removed from Destroyers. I also detailed that I had low SP and that SP was not focussed on ganking skills. CCP made many changes that made ganking easier, so to make it easy for you, I failed when it was more difficult and expensive with a low SP and unfocussed skill set. Did that help?

Methinks you try too hard…

Back to Bannerbear?

At least there are no griefers and gWankers in Bonerlord.

Yes there is such as Dwankvlad the Impaler.

Methinks you read too much into things.

I blame The Little Willies PVP Club, or whatever they’re called…
I hadn’t been in eve that long and my venture was blown up, without so much as a ‘GF’ or ‘By your leave…’
“That’s just not cricket” I thought, and from then on, gankers left a sour taste in my mouth. I don’t like that style of gameplay, and so decided to try and do something about it.
Then I found out that that’s not quite so easily done, but… its a Sandbox game, so I can do what I like

You would be wrong in that. In any game with multi-player elements you always come across people who want to wind up others for their fun.

Not really, it is pretty obvious what you are doing, you are just too…, well obvious about it.

It was honest, because I watched as it was made easier to gank in Eve and then there was an explosion of ganking, I was there when the Catalyst became the ganking ship of choice after the -25% ROF was removed, I saw everyone and their dog rush off to gank people after that, including a group of people in my corp. Because it became really cheap and easy, so I repeat, I decided to oppose ganking at that point because it had been made too easy and the game balance was screwed.
