Why are the forums so dead?

Where a dev had to manually add new forumites avatars.

Start a fun and intelligent thread. Never enough of those.

Showing your age there

I thought about the meaning of the the question in the op and understood we all expect something from these forums. So I thought what is it that I would want to see happen for the forums to be useful, fun and full of life.

The forums have less traffic to them then 10 years ago and especially with the old forums things were very different to today. The culture and the community changed. Shitposting, throlling and all sorts of silly forumdrama unfolded on the forums. They were part of the game and battles were fought between all sorts of different people about anything EVE related.

This is no longer what you should expect from this plus 20 year old game, its community and its forums. When people complain about the platform being dead and similarly about EVE being dead it again depends on what your expectations are from any digital environment.

Probably if you used to enjoy Magic the Gathering games then you might complain also about that it used to be a way more popular game. If you used to enjoy Battlefield 4 then once again how many servers will you still find where you can play that game.

Nice to bring the thread back to it’s topic, No Queue!

Has it really changed that much?

I may have only joined the EVE forums late when it already was in it’s current Discourse format, but I feel like the shitposting, trolling and forum drama that existed when I joined is still similar to how the forum is now.

The regular discussions between opposing groups like like null seccers vs nanogangers or HS carebears vs gankers, solo players vs multiboxers, people who want more PvP risk or less PvP risk, etc. are pretty constant and to be expected in a game like this, I think.

The only games where most people happily get along in game discussions are coop or solo games in my experience.

Why would you not expect it?

Why would you expect an online and largely anonymous forum about a sandbox game with many conflicting playstyles not to have forum drama or trolling?

Or did I misunderstand your statement?

What would you expect instead, that people of different conflicting playstyles all get along about the direction they want the game to go, because the game is 20 years already?

Personally I think the moment we stop seeing such discussions on the forum (in between more productive discussions and requests for help) is the moment the forums are truly dead.

But for now the EVE forums seem lively to me, with interesting discussions!

It just won’t be as lively as forums used to be before the introduction of Discord, which took a big part of the online game discussion share.

I think i joined the old forums right near the end and migrated with some here. From 2017 when this one was created you can find “why doesnt ccp come here?” “Forums are dead” “why did we need a new forum?”

Its the very same now…no difference. As a matter of fact, all forums of every type are like this on a daily basis. Thats like saying reddit was different back in the day vs now. Its not…its the very same.

I was part of the old forums but i was a reader much more than a poster. I also did not use this account at the time. I used what used to be my main account there. I saw the very same posts being made by a group of folks i do not see at all now. The crowd changed but the content didnt.

Ive always tend to think that forums evolve over time…and as you mentioned, people change, mentalities change, the environment changes. We have no choice but to meld with it and carry on.

Are these forums dead? I dont think so. I think its just a lull that will change with every new season.

Visiting the forums to see content that was already posted on Reddit is mind numbing. Its gotten even worse now that old reddit is no longer public access. :frowning:

Try visiting the forums first!

I often visit reddit only to see stuff that was already posted on the forums.

Because frankly the game is made up by at best 3k people, at best, the Idiots at FCCP havent realised that they have allowed a bunch of losers to ruin a potentially great game.

as for Reddit, just more of the same garbage that i see here along with the same psychophants and their alts.

3k is generous, I bet this game is played by 5 big multiboxers, maybe 6.

Why did your previous character Denyial get a forum mute by the way, Udisnme?

What exactly should the zkillboard of a main look like?

Well, for obvious reasons…and probably typically…the main should have many more kills than the alts.

However, not everyone would follow the typical ruleset. Take me for instance…this is now my main account and has been for several years. This account literally has no killboard except for one embarrassing npc death.

Im sure im not the only one in this category.

Variety and activity.

Alts are usually more limited in SP and thus focused on one or a few activities, and forum alts are often not even active at all.

From a main of someone playing the game I’d expect some kind of record in the past year. Even people who don’t actively seek out PvP will likely every now and then lose some ship or MTU to some unfortunate event if they undock outside Exordium.

From a main I would also expect more variety of records as you’re flying a more well-rounded character with higher SP.

Your killboard for example shows a recent loss, some lost MTUs, lost a variety of miners as well as and explorer and combat ships in the past, and also some kills.

Your zkillboard does not immediately scream ‘alt!’ to me. It could be a main.

No stupid losses with idiotic fits. Beyond that it all depends on personal play style, preferences and a bunch of other factors. I have… issues with accepting anything from someone who has an opinion on EVE that relates to the game world, if that person has just dumb clown fits losing them in dumb ways, because it shows that person is clueless.

He might “just” be a miner but even when mining you can do that the smart and clueless way. Even if it’s mostly/only deaths (because not a pvper) isn’t an issue, WHAT did he lose and HOW did he lose it. Details matter, base zkill statistics don’t.

That’s because it is my main. It didn’t used to be, this was an alt but my old main has gone to doomhiem.

Now it’s sat with over 200,000,000 sp. Born on 10.08.2012.

That most recent loss of a Malediction was me being stupid and warping to 0 in a Crimson Harvest site to have a look, while there was also an Incursion taking place.

Daft, I know.

I seem to recall, or im imagining it, people may change their alts to mains and therefore an alt now may have more SP than a main

People can indeed switch which character they consider their main, and what I said earlier isn’t an exact science but it turned out to give an accurate guess about Drago’s situation.

I get what you’re saying, but I’d also caution you to remember that not everyone deliberately posts to zkillboard. I don’t, for example, and never have in 17 years. The only kills or losses there attributed to me are posted by someone else; either the corp I was part of, or the other guy if someone got me. And since I’ve largely been a solo player and not an intentional PVPer, mine is a very incomplete, almost incoherent, record, despite being mostly active over the years and practically a daily player since 2019.

I can’t imagine I’m the only Lone Ranger/Sneaky Pete with a ghost profile on zkill.

On topic, and in reference to the old forums, I don’t know that the vibe was all that different. But since the community was different and a lot of us were younger, maybe nostalgia makes it feel that way. One feature I do miss from the old forums, silly though it might be, is that you could tell at a glance the poster’s name, corp, and alliance membership. It might seem trivial, but that info added context to certain discussions.

Sorry, can’t take you seriously when you can’t even spell ‘sycophants’ correctly.
