Why do Guristas rats jam ships that tackle Ishtar bots?

Reaping whales is always a bountiful harvest.

but thats…
not even what you are talking about…
Whaling = rorqual, orca, porpoise…

They don’t have CODE mining permits to rat in gurista space. That makes them whales.

According to his Majesty, James CCCXV, such players are known as “Whale Aspirants.”

It really doesnt, the names of the ships are whales hence; whaling.

Also, your not in CODE.

The word of our Sovereign trumps all vulgarities and colloquialisms.

I imagine somehow you would be a tough student to teach.

Show us your elite PvP character. Why are you hiding behind an alt with an empty killboard?

you only need a sample size of one ; the patch notes where ccp announced this change in rat behavior .

All your comments skirt around the core issue here.

Why does rat AI decide that a target that’s actively shooting them is lower on threat priority list than a ship that’s using offensive EWAR against said target?

Got a source for that?

Rats swapping targets on their own is hard to generalize. Previously, rats would stay on one target, and some content would become trivial as they’d never swap to the ships running in afterwards, which in itself offered options to exploit. Swapping and the logic behind it can be debated, but the current iterations of target swapping is sane at the core.

Also callback to 2012, when all folks needed to gank a tengu running guristas sites was a thrasher or two.

Well this seems horribly broken, if true.

Just to wade in.

Small sample size I know… but…

I dropped in twice today on ishtars in a Gnosis. B-lined for them and both times the rats switched to me immediatly after landing on grid, before I even activated a single module. (the ishtars were 90KM away)

The ishtars did both pull drones both times but the rats started switching to me before the drones were back in his bay both times.

I broke off my chase and warped out both times because obviously id die…

Not sure what the solution is. If the idea was to get ppl to loose more ships then maybe CCP needs to work on the AI with rats so that they keep going after the hull thats been dealing the most dps/targeting them in the vicinity. Taking ages to d-scan someone down and they don’t even flee because the rats switch to the invader is juts insulting…

Can’t imagine how we could abuse that to agro swap on a whim… Or have designated tank ships…
You are basically suggesting EVE adopt WOW agro mechanics.

OK try this scenario. You warp in to a small fleet of mining bots… their response fleet pops in, helluva lot stronger than the mining bots… What do you do? you target the response fleet.

same instance with the rats. they see another ship come in, they assume its going to be bigger and badder than what they are fighting so they start attacking it…

Here is the solution!

Fill your High slots with smartbombs. No need to target anything. You will probably get the pod too!

Also, report the bot. So you win even more.

standings. Fix your standings with the rat faction. I couldn’t tell you how, I’m -10 with most of the pirate factions (if not all of them), they instantly aggro me on sight no matter where I am or who else is on grid.

This isn’t a matter of standings since that only applies to diamond rats rather than non-diamond rats; this is a matter of absurd AI, which could apply to any kind of rat. In the video linked by OP, the rats were non-diamond.

It would be pretty hard to abuse as long as you have it be a “last X seconds” counter for DPS. To swap aggro you’d have to bring in another DPS ship, have the first ship stop shooting, and shoot the NPCs for a while with the second ship. And a designated tank ship would have to out-DPS everyone else in the group as well, and I’m skeptical that a fleet arranged this way would be more effective than one that just brings multiple conventional ships. After all, it’s not like the PvE content in question is at all difficult to farm or requires anything more than “warp in, hit F1 until the site is clear”. If your tank ship can tank the entire site while simultaneously out-DPSing everyone else then why do you even need multiple ships?

And it’s not at all the same as WoW because there’s no aggro manipulation. NPCs target the thing that is the biggest threat to them, there’s no equivalent of the tank sitting up front with limited DPS and using “take all the aggro” skills while the healer keeps the tank alive and the glass cannon DPS characters are free to kill the NPCs. The only way to draw aggro is to actually be the biggest threat on the battlefield.

That’s still stupid. Once the new arrival starts attacking the ship that was killing the NPCs even the most paranoid NPC should understand that the new arrival is at least not actively hostile to them and return their attention to the ship that has clearly demonstrated its hostile intent.
