Why do Offline control towers have shields

It’s offline. Just an anchored tower. Not powered up.
However, if you want to destroy it, you have to go through it’s FULL shields.

I’m sure this bug has been around a long time. Would be nice to get it fixed, as a lot of corporations just park un-powered towers at moons to keep others from having them.

Just to annoy you, and it’s worked.

They dont follow the rules of upwell structures

Yes to both.

But it’s clearly a bug. When you online a tower, a shield is formed around it and that’s what protects it. It requires fuel.
An offline tower that is just anchored has no shield at all. However, if you lock onto it, and start shooting, you clearly see a “shield remaining” stat when you hover over the tower. It appears to be the full shielding of an online tower even though the tower is just anchored.
Just wondering if CCP will answer and if they care to fix it. It seems like a good way to get rid of a lot of space clutter and to promote industry by doing so.

It is not a bug. The shield and the force field are separate things.

That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.

Youre one of uninformed ppl of eve … the shield its not the force field ! Two seperate things ! And if the tower is offline then just shoot it ! It will have no resis and no stront to get a timer

Does a Mobile Depot / Tractor Unit need fuel to have a shield? They are also just anchored in space.
Does an (abandoned) spaceship need fuel to have a shield?
Does an (abandoned) Drone need fuel to have shield?

Why should a tower need fuel to have a shield?

Pretty sure the fuel is for the forcefield, which is not the shield in the tradition sense.

The shield is the same as any standard shield (i.e. on a ship or structure).

The forcefield is an extra, external layer that prevents damage (including to the shield) until the fuel runs out.

Thank you Akkar

So it doesn’t take 24 hours to kill one in fleet of 4 Nigthmares. (Now with Leshaks might be a bit faster, not sure how much).

Really up to 150milion HP that even replenish while you are shooting it in highsec is bit too much.

POSes should:

  • be suspect-safety shootable if they belong to closed corporation that thus cannot be wardecced, or even green-safety
  • take 200% damage or rather have 50% hp if not fueled, so it doesn’t take so long to remove them from space
  • drop a wreck and thus be salvageable like upwell citadels are, so there is a bit more motivation to destroy them other than “to clean the space I live in”

an offline POS does not have 150 milllion HP ! not even 150 million EHP ! you dont have resis on this offline POS …

no …

dont think a closed corp can hold a POS … bit to be fair → its not knowledge its “i dont think…”

way biggger no …

its not har to kill a POS so no … they get way more damage because all the resistence are gone and i dont see any reason why the HP should drop if its not fueled oO dosnt make any sense

if you cant kill an offline POS or need 12 hours for this then its your problem …

could be a point but why ? oO nobody would grind a POS only because its possible to collect 10m salvage xD
