Well in nullsec maybe. In highsec, is is an undeniable fact that majority of the miners are mining AFK. At least sometimes, if not all the time. Note that semi-AFK gameplay where you watch netflix and mine behind it counts as AFK.
What is the difference between an AFK orca mining at normal (ice) belt and AFK orca mining at the event site?
I don’t see any, except that they cannot be ganked. But Orcas are already ungankable if it isn’t 0.5 and Orca isn’t paper fit.
Still nope. Not when a miner can fill the entire mining hold of a Hulk in 4 minutes. Not 10- not 15… 4. And I never watch Netflix. I don’t like that network. I watch Local, my corp channel, my main, my alt, manage drones, and move ore constantly while music plays in the background. That’s how I mine. A Skiff can mine AFK since mining is so slow, but then- no one can gank a Skiff so that’s no big deal.
And you know as well as I do that Ventures in Low and null AFK huff gas. It’s worth way more than High Sec ore, can be mined by an alpha player in a ship that costs nothing, and it takes 20 - 30 minutes to fill the hold. They mine AFK all the time. There’s no reason not to. One successful load covers their losses and after that it’s pure profit.
A Hulk with a max yield fit requires about 6 months of skill training by an Omega player to fly a ship that’s going to run at least 250,000,000 ISK including fit. An Orca requires a hell of a lot more to pilot it well and that ship costs about 3 billion including fit. All to mine ore that’s ■■■■ in comparison to huffing gas in a free venture.
Kind of hard for me to justify mining AFK in HS. That’s a huge loss. Funny how no one gets mad at the low sec Ventures. That’s why anti-ganking makes sense. Everyone should do it. Mining ships wouldn’t explode anymore.
Orcas are ungankable in 0.5 too if fit properly. They’re not worth the cost of destroying. 900 thousand EHP with a large shield booster II takes a hell of a lot of BOOM!
No, no , no. It is simply your opinion. As I say, you CANNOT know whether someone is AFK. Not even CCP can. So for pity’s sake, stop throwing this nonsense around. You have zero knowledge or understanding about mining, so your comments in a thread like this are simply mindless trolling.
are you trying to tell me that all these miners that I ganked were watching my coercers to approach them and let themselves get ganked by not warping away, for which they totally had time to, just because they were trying to be nice? roflmao
Bro, where do you think the concept of miners always being alt-tabbed to Netflix while they mine comes from?
Because that’s what highsec miners do. They sit there in their perceived invincibility, streaming whatever, while they wait X minutes for the hold to be full.
From now on, miner’s are no longer alt-tabbed to Netflix. They’re off wanking to pics of Glenduil. Happy now?
You see, the reason you’re not paying attention to the game is totally fu¢king irrelevant, and we use you being alt-tabbed to Netflix as a fu¢king generalization, not a specific accusation.
There have been many rage posts on this forum from whiners who have been ganked because they were watching Netflix. Enough for it to become a meme.
Needing this explained to you should be embarrassing.
Alt-Tab is the keyboard shortcut to change which window your OS is focusing on.
You being alt-tabbed means your not focusing on Eve.
Your number of monitors is, like most of your arguments, fu¢king irrelevant.
Try learning what a metaphor is. Saying an Eve player is alt-tabbed to Netflix is a metaphor for not paying attention to the game, little troll, not a direct accusation.
You’re either AFK or stupid if you end up there in a mining ship in highsec, so you pick which one you are. If you want to insist miners are never AFK, we’ll agree.
That means nothing. Send in a neutral bumper from some other corporation and that exhumer is stuck where it is. Aligning does nothing. It doesn’t speed you up at all nor does orbiting.
Maybe you just don’t understand anything about ganking. Send in the unassuming bumper and then the kill squad warps to. That has nothing to do with the miner being AFK. Or do you honestly think that exhumers have a 2 second warp time as long as they’re aligned to a station? That’s not how aligning works.
If you got bumped, you weren’t paying attention. Bumpers are obvious both in their presence in the belt and their behavior once they land on grid. Now, would you rather everyone assume you were alt-tabbed to Netflix, or that you sat there and watched the bumper close in on you and bump you without trying to do anything about it?
There is one solution to this. Give Orcas two strip miners. Then I can omit the need to monitor a second screen, stop managing so many drones, and I wouldn’t have to move or compress ore. I could just stare at local and grid with all the free time I’d have. It’s a win win. Not that anyone could gank my ships anyway. I’ve actually never been ganked in a mining ship.
You wouldn’t even need to give us two additional slots- just let us equip two strip miners and remove compression.
This is literally what I do at work, but i mine in NS in Hulk fitted for max yield, and make way more than HS that is far more dangerous. Semi-afk mining should be done in NS where it’s safest and highest income.
Yeah I wish more players were as honest as you. High Sec used to be profitable, but CSM and their buddies convinced everyone that High Sec was absolutely safe and that null sec should get all of the money. High Sec ice fields vanished and the price of ships quadrupled. High Sec isn’t so profitable anymore yet it’s still dangerous if you don’t know how to survive. Still, I like the risk of High Sec. And the freedom to roam.
You have no freedom, you’re forced to kit out your barges & exhumers for tank, or provide an Orca for support, just to do the activity you like: mining, and instead of making bank, you make peanuts.
On top of this crap, you also have to be extra paranoid, go to remote systems that means you now have to haul more/longer.
That isn’t freedom. It’s trapped by the poor game design of HS and inverted risk vs reward thinking you’re free.
