I know the expansion is out June 9th, but my understanding is this region (not necessarily the content) would open on FanFest. Maybe they meant next FanFest…
From what I seen of the fanfest show, everything opens same day.

Feel free to look back on my post history, but I have suggested this route many times over the past several years. Since new players were constantly whining about being ganked and not being able to try out the game before getting thrown to the wolves, my suggestion was to give them their own little area of space, where no one enters with anything of value, no one leaves with anything of value, and everything inside that little area is all but worthless. It still won’t stop the whining, but it’s a start…

Pretty sure more than a few of us were behind this idea as well… I guess the churn rate for new players must be trending upwards if it’s finally being implemented…

You know CCP, they work at a snail’s pace. It took them 15 years to change a single line of text so new players would stop asking “How do I mine Tritanium?” ten million times a day in Rookie Help Chat…

Forgive me but how will they extract the value of their efforts and be paid for their time, exactly?
They don’t need or want to make a profit, it’s just a statement to CCP that they borked the game. They make their ISK in other ways.

Your perception is wrong. As the forums lost significant impact due to absence of CCP/FC interaction, the protests are mainly held elsewhere (reddit, discord). So deducing that there is no bigger protest, because the forums are relatively quiet is not a valid thing.
It’s a starter region. I can’t see it being resource rich. They want a safe place to learn but I’m sure new starters will find it fairly limiting quickly and will naturally move out in pursuit of better stuff. That’s just my opinion.
It wont be…dont let all these doom mongers convince you of any of that.
