I’m going to laugh my ass off if Exordium is such a resounding success CCP expands it to the rest of the game. Wonder how fast they’d tell every ganker “Your patronage is no longer required, or tolerated.” if Exordium caused tidi to hit?
It’s 80 ISK/m³ in perfect safety. It’s going to be botted and there’ll be nothing upstanding players like Aiko can do to stop it. Yeah CCP can say “veteran players won’t be allowed to farm it” all they like, I’ll believe statements like that when they start enforcing the EULA in other areas, such as RMT or botting, which are rampant issues actively killing the game. Letting them proceed in an area where you can’t even theoretically use PvP to inflict some measure of cost on the perpetrators is vile. EVE should not have safe spaces.
You are a toxic troll who agitates for the status quo, nothing more.
That was not the assertion, its pure narcissism to assume yourself to be the subject protagonist.
They still are, now a little less so. Though what really seems to offend the most vociferous objectors is not ‘how much’ of the the territory will operate in a never before experienced level of safety, but that any safe territory exists at all.
It is not about being wrong or right, its about balance. The creation of this new area is at odds with previous statements and ‘data’ by CCP staff that supported ganking as having a positive impact on the player experience. Either this data was wrong, the data has changed, or ( more likely ) the player base has acted in a way to raise sufficient concern that without action, the current situation is unsustainable for the game to maintain a critical mass of new players to replace those who depart.
Its the dichotomy that two things can be seen as true at the same time, depending on one’s point of view.
That does not refute the assertion. Find text where CCP specifies that PvP is the ONLY core element and get back to us with a quote, or wipe the froth from your mouth and sit down.
The quoted text is an example of individuals who behave like they are entitled to keep the game and its mechanics in a reductive and unsustainable state.
Please, that phrase is a dog whistle by any other name.
Believe whatever gives the greatest comfort. This change is not happening because of some simple forum posting.
Exodium is certainly not an L, though if people were a little more constructive and cooperative it would not have been necessary.
Partially. What really helps is the ability to control the entirety of space, high security space and low security space are problematic because NPC stations are unassailable so the ‘enemy’ can always have extremely pervasive eyes.
The most safe systems in Null used to be the ones with only POS. All it would take is for CCP to alter citadels so that people who are on the deny ACL cannot see local while docked, it would nearly be right back there.
Elaborate on how this update will correct it? Either new people are going to go into the new area and say ‘oh wow, EVE is a nice place to be, I heard it was full of mean gankers’ or at best it will be ‘I was in this safe area, then when I left with my very first ship filled with all my stuff I got turbo blapped before I could even travel to the next gate’ ?
Logistically, if the ores are the same m^3 as the larger types, it would also be a negative factor on trade, as who would want to fill a freighter full of ore that has only a fraction of the yield as regular ore that takes just as long to mine?
Ask any industrialist who started before scarcity era how big their trit and pyrite piles are. I literally have millions of units that I will never use that are not worth the cost of moving. Whatever ‘value’ these items are, its only indicative of their transit costs, vs contribution to construction of most items.
Think less about the value and more about the principle. By mining in Exodium and not elsewhere, it says ‘Dear CCP, I do not want to play in the areas with the current Risk vs Reward’ in the same way that people decided to simply play other games during blackout, than put up with the disaster that was ‘delayed local’ that the same PvP above all else crowd clamored for until they realized they were not in a position to dictate the terms in which people engage with the game.
Remove security tags, no more using ISK to pay for security status. Convert them all to regular NPC loot like blue/red and overseer effects or LP rewards.
Indeed, its quite a sore point.
Maybe CCP should stop posting so much content in discord and reddit when there is a dedicated forum and they have had months to prepare statements.
That is where you and I differ. The value is the people, not the resources. If they are not worth the capacitor, I will gladly take those opportunities you neglect.
Its not about the ISK/m^3, its that some people feel there is something wrong with a miner who had a great time playing the game without first having bough a permit.
This is what they are truly afraid of. What if people do like having an area where they are not constantly in fear of being harassed by a trio of bored vets flying catalyst alts who just go around blowing up everything they ever worked for at the cost of 20 minutes of hacking relic sites or super ratting, at most?
Since the last banwave Udema has been a little more quiet, one can only hope this trend continues.
Look, zkillboard is not an all seeing eye, but the only transgression I can see is a disgusting amount of killboard padding, likely caused by CCP’s dumb event awhile back.
Exordium isn’t just some update on ganking… The reasoning for this expansion is explained in part in the news article.
Summary of the article
So it is important to note, that this expansion isn’t just some change to ganking alone. There are many other reasons and wins or “low hanging fruits” that support the idea of this new zone. So, using ganking as the sole reason as to why this new region is invalid, tastes a bit too cherry-pick’y to me.
And even if Exordium proves to be a dud (in respect to safety/ganking), we can always allow some baddies to convert Exordium into a Pochven II in a few years or similar.
EVE is always evolving. EVE forever.
Well you partially answered your own question here. All that players hear now is that EVE is this cutthroat PVP game full of gankers. So, many potential players don’t even install the game and get an opportunity to learn that this isn’t really true. We don’t really know what impression potential players have on the game, maybe they think that everyone will hot drop their Velator as soon as they undock, lol.
We’re not just thinking about player retention here, but amount of new installs. EVE isn’t full of gankers, EVE is not hard, it can actually be quite chill. And this new update, with PvP free zone is essentially a counter argument to this flawed perception on EVE. It is a PR move.
And the other part:
‘I was in this safe area, then when I left with my very first ship filled with all my stuff I got turbo blapped before I could even travel to the next gate’
Does that even happen? I have about 2 years of continuous playtime in EVE and this has never happened to me. Am I stupidly lucky or what? But no, I’m not, we have “data”, which shows that less than 1% of new players get ganked. You also showed that you’re aware of that data, so why are you making up such nonsensical situations?
Essentially, players like you seem to be the issue here and as I understand, that is the reason why CCP is making this new zone a full-sec region. I’m partially joking here. Partially.
You never have to move out. You can remain there as long as you like, mingle with other new accounts/alts and the such. Id be willing to bet that you can even shoot a laser or two if it came down to teaching another player the essential how to’s of space without any ramification at all.
However, excessive missioning or mining past 30 days will be frowned upon…so the only choice is leaving the area and expanding your regions.
That experience will vary from each player. Its all up to them.
Spam posting a statement by CCP does not in any way indicate authority, only that one knows how to ctrl-c, ctrl-v.
It is hard to tell if this indicates a stance for or against. Is the new region bad or good?
Gankers are bad people, though they are playing within the rules. Were there not rules preventing non consensual PvP in the starter zone it is a near certainty that this would be the case. This has been a problem with MMO in the past, so its not like there is no precedent.
The right to free speech is traditionally in the context of having the right to criticize one’s government, however it also extends to the ability for one to make statements in public, even if some find the speech offensive, even those who are not agents of a political construct.
Explicitly? No, however this challenge
to this statement
Looks to be entirely oppositional to the assertion, yet this statement
Is a very reasonable good faith interpretation in distinct contrast to an outright rejection.
Is it uncomfortable down there on the floor thrashing about because some people are looking forward to a seat in the quiet carriage where such antics are not allowed?
Which is why not a single soul will shed a tear no matter how much machinations and protests spew forth from simple bullies.
For some things, absolutely.
Entosis trollceptors
Blackout
Alpha account red safety restricions
Called them all day one.
This is how people who can tell the difference between a constructive argument and pure oppositional thinking.
Or is there something of substance to proffer a defense that ‘older than 30 days’ and ‘older than 30 days and actively mining’ are equivalent in the totality of the context?
Spaceships already exist in that game, though granted it was stolen and crashed, it was still a spaceship at one point. There used to be a planet in EVE with a spaceship wreck on it at one point.
Not gone, though it is telling how much resistance there is to removing the purchase of security status with ISK. It is almost like those that need the security status tokens literally do not want to do anything else with their time in game.
The dev blog and the discussion in discord/reddit are very different mediums, it should never fall to members of the community to bridge those gaps.
The people you meet in the first 60 days are likely going to define the entire EVE experience. True, it is up to each player to take advantage of these opportunities, however this new region looks to be a positive step towards creating an environment where those without malice can be of the greatest benefit.
Do not forget that before the room was ablaze, the gasoline and match to light it were held in the hands of someone with their safety set to red.
The question is not so much whether noobs can mine in the new systems, but whether they can sell their ore there or have to go to some station outside of the new system to sell. When I was a noob, I mined in Aurcel, but the nearest place that bought ore on any regular basis was 3 systems away in Vittenyn. And, of course, ganking can then occur on the way to such station.
I’ve created a rather clever ganker ship for surviving turrets for a small time…only 16m ISK. Can’t wait to try it out
What you have been saying goes directly against what CCP has posted as one of the major reasons behind making the new systems, and that reason is people like you. You spread lies about gankers and make new players feel like everyone is out to get them when the truth is nobody is out to get them. They might accidentally get ganked by someone a little too eager to shoot something, but new players being ganked is a very small percentage.
You are a bad person. Your actions and words do far more harm than any ganker does. People that gank are just people. They are not bad people for participating in a core mechanic of this video game. You are a bad person for trying to assign morality to a video game.
There is no such thing. You consent the moment you log in. This is a pvp-centric game whether you like it or not. Every part of this game is pvp in various forms. This forum is even pvp.
Exactly. I never said it was the only core element yet you made this asinine statement
So now you can go ahead and chew on that foot you stuck in your mouth.
You can’t even stick to your own thought line and contradict yourself in different posts, and you want to talk ■■■■ like you’re better than me?
You are the bully. You spend so much time calling gankers bad people for playing a video game its ridiculous. You have absolutely no right to claim any morality of any other person based on a video game. You do that simply to give yourself a false moral highground on which to bully a minority in eve online.
Plenty of people wish blackout remained.
magic spaceships exist and arent crashed, in world of warcraft. but they are magic and ignore things like being able to breathe in space with open doorways, which allow all atmosphere to go away.
not gone but no way to recover standings so they arent killed the moment they undock anywhere in highsec. So, you know, gone.
You whined about information existing outside of this forum when it exists on this forum. Move your goalpost a little further.
So CCP states that new players are concerned about loosing all their stuff, so they get a theme park region, and its somehow the fault of people who advocate to put the punishment back into ‘crime and punishment’ for all the activity that has happened outside of a region that does not yet exist?
Everyone is out to get them, its called recruiting.
Obviously not, otherwise CCP would not be creating a whole new region.
There is a night and day difference between a player a few hours old and an alt who has so much ISK from their Null main that they fill in the boredom by blapping new players.
Well, yes, there is, its even mentioned by CCP in the wall of text spam posted previously.
It was interpreted by more than one participant as such.
That is not a CCP quote.
The goal is not to be better, its to be not as awful as an obvious shill.
Its no different to cheaters. When an exploit in the game is discovered, it is declared as such, those who continue to do the exploit are cheating. Does not mean those who did the same actions before the exploit was declared were not cheating.
Ganking is heading down the same path. Of course, CCP does not want to ban it outright straight away, its going to be a slow frog boil.
Fishermen who overfish an area may individually not be bad people, as a group its an entirely earned designation. CCP are a commercial business, this action would be unnecessary if the ‘minority’ of players were not equally problematic in the aggregate.
Does not make them any less wrong or the decision to remove local any less of a failure.
Scroll back up a bit to where there was an assertion people wanted world of warcraft with spaceships.
So knowing these details, this
statement could have simply have just been ‘play world of warcraft’ ?
There are other ways to get back security status other than paying for tags. It just involves doing things are are ‘not ganking’ for a time.
There is a whole other thread where people were typing live CCP dev statements made outside of the forum to answer questions. Well, questions, more like wild speculations, however that never seems to stop folks.
Why are they so concerned? Could it be because of people like you that like to apply morality to activities in video games and tell everyone you possibly meet in said video game that gankers are after them like the terminator was after john conner?
which has nothing to do with your make believe ganker agenda towards new players.
Again, I refer you back to the web page where they explicitly state new player ganks are uncommon. You can be as stupid as you want with this but it’s not going to make you right.
Yes, go ahead and build your strawman so I can burn it down.
Show me where.
you mean you make up bs and are now saying multiple people believe as you do, so you can build an authority fallacy.
What? Do you even know what you’re arguing about anymore? Obviously not, since this particular series of statements stems from your asinine assertion that I claimed PVP is the only core mechanic of eve online. Which, by the way, I did not state. You can’t help yourself from lying on a forum where the statements you lie about can be seen by everyone, can you?
You fail at every goal you’ve attempted so far in this thread. Who am I shilling for? Are you another person that seemingly hates ccp yet still plays their video game? Why?
you are absolutely full of it. Ganking is not an exploit nor is it cheating. Build another strawman, this one doesn’t work.
no, You are the problem. You can’t help yourself from lying about gankers every day to every one you possibly can. The announcement webpage, which i have posted several times clearly states that you are the problem. Of course, you got upset that I posted that information that you refuse to read.
You are the problem. You have always been the problem, and you will always be the problem.
And? Null should not have local showing when people come through. It is nullsec, not highsec, not lowsec. It has no security, hence the player name of nullsec. Yet there is security because of local. All the carebears can dock up the moment anyone comes in.
Blackout should have remained.
I still make that assertion. In previous threads I made the distinction about not magic space ships and world of warcraft. I shouldn’t have to draw it out in crayon each and every time.
You want world of warcraft with not magic space ships. You do not want eve online.
Better? Please don’t eat the crayons.
No. Are you actually made of straw?
Yet your intent is clear. You do not want gankers to exist. You are the problem. You do not want to play eve online, you want to play world of warcraft with not magic space ships.
Yes, blame other people for your own inability to read the CCP statements in the comments to address issues from above where CCP Dev’s posted.
Jesus, mr straw man, is this your first time to ever use a forum?
Morality is Morality, doesn’t matter if its a video game or not.
If you are making someone else’s day worse, that’s not really a moral thing to do, you are hurting someone. And I am sure you are going to come back with a plethora of comebacks and whatnot stating legality and Devs intentions. But at the end of the day if you go out of your way to hurt someone and the game penalizes you. . . you are a bad person.
Please do me a favor, as I cannot find it anywhere in CCP official statements that the Devs totally agree and believe that as soon as you log into this game, you are consenting to PVP. If this were true, then the entire game should be like Null Sec.
