Worse Halloween event in a game - thank you EVE business dep

Thanks for the tips, one of the few decent replies here.

Here’s my experience as a long time pve player but first time doing this event:

Tried a drake because passive tank and figured why not, haven’t flown one in a long time. I tested the fit slowly at first. I knew these rats were mean so I went to sites with other people until I could get a feel for my tank (absolute brick) and dps (pretty bad with mjolnir HAMs). Fit was fully passive em/therm resist except for a single target painter.

Like others have mentioned it works but it’s slow so after running a few solo I decided to upgrade to the navy drake which shreds the frigs in 2-3 volleys and the cruisers in 5-7 with rage. OK I got my ship, familiar with the site mechanics now, tested and ready to go…

The very next site I do the BS spawns and warps in with the initial group in the final pocket and absolutely crushes me, brand new 150 mil navy drake gone.

Maybe I triggered something badly, maybe CCP is trying to skim a little off the top pve economy wise, who am I to say.

I can very much agree, the sites themselves are dangerous, and CCP essentially went full danger mode with 90% loot drop everywhere.

  1. Drones: it’s been at least 5 years now that the newer npcs (like trigs) and events have this thing about aggressing drones. The usual tactic is to launch drones only when aggro is focused on you, pull drones when they do get aggro and relaunch as soon as aggro is re-established on you. That usually keeps them safe for a while. If you do insist on using drones 1) your fit should have drone damage mods and 2) have the proper drones (use faction ones with high hp to give them a chance of survival) and 3) kill what’s trying to kill them (yellow or no aggro on you)
  2. Thieves+baiters+gankers: when you work certain constellations for the sites (talking hisec) you will come to recognize names of people to dodge, and you will get to know the performance of their ships. You add them to your standings … Either you take it as a challenge, re-tuning your own fit or even re-shipping and accept the competition, or you simply find yourself a quiet part of space with less traffic.
  3. Solo’ing: not everything needs to be done in a battleship. I’ve run these sites with some fun t3c fits, mostly legions and lokis, experimenting and generally having fun, and trying to keep my stance when the obligatory site stealer barges into the last room. These events are not new, they’ve been documented thoroughly on YT vids, and it’s fun to compare approaches to run these sites, and what different types of fits are being used. Yes, one of them is superior (and stupidly expensive for its purpose of maximizing the grindfest). No, you don’t need a marauder to be efficient and have a good chance of getting the loot and having fun. Webbing, neuting, pointing ? Prioritize your targets accordingly and depending on your fit’s weaknesses (a Thukker Large Cap will deal with the neuting, btw).
  4. Solo’ing (bis): not everything needs to be done solo. Fleet up with a buddy, it doesn’t matter if he/she is on the alternate tracker, just alternate the sites (usually a good idea, since there seems to be some preference for sites) and divide the spoils afterwards. It’s efficient, you have a better chance against site thieves, and while you roam for new sites you have double the chance of finding sites…

Not gonna lie, I love these events. Good luck and have fun !

P.S. the only small letdown this year is the single series of skins in the tracker, and a “reduced” drop rate of boosters (haven’t seen any yet).

Thats been normal for years they want to remove the ability for people to basically AFK content in drone boats

Sounds like a valid strategy to me

Fit webbers, painters or weapons that can do damage to smaller ships like precision cruise missiles etc, there are options

Okey so they target drones get targeted extremely fast even if I wait to get all the aggro, whatever. I’ve encountered this in other places.

But what bothers me is what is up with the warp scrambler? I literally almost lost my rattlesnake because my drones were like consumables and my cruise missiles couldn’t do enough damage to the frigates to get rid of the scram.

Let’s say I came unprepared (should have had heavy missiles instead and rely more on their damage). Bro it’s a high sec event and I almost lost that ship I run L4s with no problem?? What the ■■■■?

During these events there are (usually…) KPIs (key performance indicators) that companies try to achieve: increase sales of X by Y%, increase user count, increase CCU, etc.

This warp scrambler literally is made only for you to lose a ship, which might be some KPI. There is then a X % chance you will buy some plex.

The HUGE range of loot from what I’ve saw between 5 mil and 90 mil, adheres to the gambling brain of players, some more than others.

And then the risk vs reward of looters and the thrill of stealing and getting away, that’s just basic EVE high.

I really don’t think this event is good and from all the MMOs that I played, it’s still one of the worst (for me), it’s unbalanced, a greedy and lazy design.

There are multiple ways of fixing this, but instead they release the same event year after year after year, as some told me here.

No fun here, gonna go play GW2, ESO, WoW or something else this Halloween.

When you make a fit for events like these, you try to figure out what you use for best damage application. Cruise missiles are as good as useless here. You wouldn’t put large railguns, would you ? Same principle, different equation. Get the application right and you won’t care if all of them scramble/disrupt/web/neut you…

If you post your fit maybe you will get some replies on how to improve it, and how to use the altered fit ?

In tetrimon site I see there was an augoror that repairs the frigates, you have to take out the augoror first.

Oh CCP increased PVP, Ganking, Online Players. I can tell from every HS system with 5+ people looking for sites.

Sure? But my claymore can run the sites and is very well tanked.

Yah that’s called RNG. It is also present in Abyssal deadspace. I recently got a 300mil drop from a t4 filament worth 9mil. You just called pretty much all of EVE online/the internet gamblers lol.

Everyone can be a pundent/critic these days… All MMOs have lame events. CCP ain’t an exception. EVE is the king of MMOs right now and events like these really seemed to get the PVErs and the PVPers riled up.

It’s called having some skin in the game. An actual chance of death to get the blood going. If you get a decent ship, you can pretty much murder everything.

See, this really speaks to your personal gaming mindset…

Well anyways have fun in those games that are smaller than EVE. You make a post full of criticisms and when people like me call you out on it you have a tough time believing that 2008 EVE is different from 2023 EVE.

I mean if you know about KPIs you know a thing or two about businesses and you have failed to adapt to 2023 EVE. :face_with_hand_over_mouth: Won’t admit it here but from all that you wrote it seems like it.

You will not be missed.

Then your Rattlesnake must have a really bad fit on it. The incoming damage in these sites isn’t particulary high and any neut pressure can be reduced quite fast. If you cannot run this event in a Rattle like piece of cake the problem is entirely on your side.

The warp scrambler adds some risk and prevents people from “just warping out” if they messed up badly. To try again, and again, and again - only making profit and never risking to lose anything. Thats a good design. All NPC frigs and cruisers in the game should tackle. At least outside the newbie content.

That is what makes EVE so great.

I agree with you, CCP should put scrambling and pointing NPCs into every kind of mission, L1 to L5.

I’ll laugh when it pops but I’m guessing you wouldn’t post about it.

And why would it pop?

I keep being entertained and perplexed by how the most lazy and ignorant people always get the most help from others, more than normal and rational people (possibly because they don’t cry so much). It doesn’t make any sense to me but you do you.

Why wouldn’t it? Anything can happen, it’s Eve after all.

 „Why wouldn’t it“ :joy: „Anything can happen“

Please elaborate with a specific example, this is highly entertaining.

Already did, feel free to read it if you want.

A passive shield fit Navy Drake is not a Claymore. You can’t fool me.

Thanks for not reading.

Use other type of damage instead of stagnate with just one
