I’m a data analysis professional. It’s my job. And given the OMG Labs data on server statistics since 2003 I looked at EVERYTHING. Also, if you read what I said, I did not say that the decrease was due to, quote you “it does not include MCT and SP trading, which caused people to remove or consolidate characters into less accounts” I simply added that for the sake of others and added it as a “well i’ve also considered that”. I’m not, nor did I say that was a reason for anything.
I garee with you on this point. Esp the point where, at least in the case of a cast majority, comradery among players keeps players in the game.
Thank you for your entire post. I appreciate your view. Thanks.
For those saying I made a quote “Shitty analysis” This is not an opinion. I simply asserted in my post the empirical evidence. The server statistics over 14 years. I used my own words to describe this data but this is not my analysis. It’s fact. And where and if I used opinions I was clear that it was an opinion and not based on evidence or metrics.
This is why I ended by saying. I welcome to the trolls as this post would be trolled in large. Surprisingly though it was not trolled nearly as much as I had thought it would be.
Idk what else the plan would have been. It’s an integral part of MMOs and retaining more casual players rather than a small hardcore group and high turnover.
There was gonna be walking in station and out of ship stuff introduced back when they were makig dust and they’d have real time battle with dust alongside Eve which they never fell through on.
They always show it in trailers like the one a year or two ago with the huge wormhole gate looking thing and soldiers in the dust drop suits are fighting inside the ships like was supposed to happen back in dust with being able to board Titans and shoot stuff out of space with planet artillery.
Logically it would have included making some good quest content as part of pve overhaul like what you have in the Eve chronicles. Get out of your ship and do missions and some missions in ship, get out and explore ruins in space or go pirate and board other people’s ships. And if would have in depth stories and NPC characters.
These forward operating bases and advanced NPC AI is a waste of time and no one wants it.
If Eve doesn’t do it first star citizens already on the way to it. Even though star citizen looks like a scam personally if it ever releases it would be a death blow cause it has everything Eve’s been missing for years now.
The outrage against instanced solo PvE only content would have been enourmous and correct.
Now? Apparently you can get away with anything and theres free hats.
Lol outrage. Among a vocal minority and it would have introduced thousands of new players. It’s the biggest activity in MMOs. Running quests and raids are mmo.bread and butter.
I’m also fine with keeping the sandbox only idea if it means adding tools to make your own quests and share them. But you have to have something.
Fetch quests get old after the third one and all you get is a wall of text from an agent. No story or immersion.
Can I ask how long youve played?
2009, played for a year and quit cause it was too expensive for me.
Made a new account last year in November cause it was free to come back again. Altogether 2 years, but I’ve gone back to runescape recently cause of the nostalgia. And RS still has it.
Ok.
Im guessing you missed Jeansgate (or whatever they call it these days).
Suffice to say EvE is a PvP game. There will never be quests (missions are really for a bit of resource gathering and LPs as the cash is garbage) and if you want to raid, other pkayers bases are that away (points).
Im sure you will disagree but EvE’s unique selling point has always been that its not like other MMOs.
You can do anything you like, but you need to do it yourself.
Monocle gate and incarna? It was a literally right after I left. Technically i missed it but I know what happened.
I attribute it more to the fact CCP didn’t finish it and instead introduced microtranscations and $70 cash grab monocles than people who were actually against the idea of proper wis from what I was told by people still playing after I left.
Straight up dude. Disgraceful.
Havent Researchers and Inventors and other industry types been doing dailies as such with blueprints since they were a thing?
I am worried that ccp have put the last nail in the coffin for eve with the increase in available skills for alphas. There will be a short term increase in revenue while some alphas make themselves alpha+, but i think that most will never bother to become a regular subscribers, and the numbers of regular subscribers will continue to fall over time until eve becomes non profitable and so is closed down.
I call bs. The more they make this game wow like to attract more casual players the less people play this game.
It is indisputable that the core eve pve game stinks and will always stink. There are so many games that do pve better. If someone wants to pve they go to some other game. People come to eve because of the freedom of game play; the idea that no one is telling you how to play, and yes to shoot people.
At least we have these two things to be thankful for in this time of hardship Thank the heavens CCP never took a single line of inspiration from Runescape
and didn’t turn EvE into “Dress up Dolly 2017”.
I am taking notes, here, because (in the back of my mind) I want to do a talk next year at Eve Vegas on longevity.
So thank you one and all for providing me a framework to build on. Both the positives and the negatives help.
m
Yeah, you missed me, Ill jump in talking about doing a venture to get some pvp and drama going
Eve has an interesting story. The original creator of Eve a man called Peck created Eve just the way we liked it , dark and totally unforgiving.
Peck agreed to leave CCP Due to others finding him very difficult to work with. I believe all of this happened just as Eve was going live for the first time.
So, consider that we are playing a game where the original creator has had nothing to do with it since may 2003. I do feel it is an odd way of doing things and it does stress me out a little bit that this Peck guy actually agreed to leave and was not forced out. I obviously don’t know the full story I am just dissapointed that we don’t have the original CEO here managing the game.
Why does life have to be so tricky at times? Why did the original CEO Peck abandon ship like that? it’s plain annoying man.
Throughout human history the greatest minds among us always had attitude and sometimes mental problems…
The players? The PLAYERS? You can’t possibly be serious, right now?
Really? Are you?
Logically i would assume the people in charge of running and developing the game (something they’ve never done) are the only thing that affect the game.
They can easily do it. They just don’t seem to want to.
But seriously, though. The players? Helping the game from going tits-up? Oh, boy…
I don’t know. Little picket signs and bedrolls? Street teams posting up signage and posters on bus shelters?
Praying?
My pleasure.
