2018/05/10 - Connectivity Issues - DDoS Attack

You must be fun at parties.

I don’t think the DDOS attack is Eve centric. I had a similar issue two days ago on the 7th when I wasn’t able to connect to Eve at all and had problems connecting to Twitter.

I called my ISP and they said that the issue revolved Eve launcher and the Eve access launcher. I find that really hard to believe that only Eve was having a problem or that every single website that I tried to connect to was having the same problem on their end at exactly the same time.

was as usual melania“s hairdryer. sorry for that. so sad i lost also a nice dirty looking cynabal which served me so well to this drifter terrorists.

ccp should sorted his crap becausese there are solutions agains ddos

Gosh people read please. This isn’t the first DDoS. You have to wait it out and put in a ticket if you lost something in the process. Blame the attackers more vs CCP.

I’m really not why would you think that I am?

I’m not joking, it is a thing. I got my Strat back after losing it due to an environment issue. CCP are very good at reimbursing, you just need to be polite about it - and bear in mind they’re likely still chewing through tickets from 11 days ago.

If you’re going to moan about losses during a DDoS attack without doing some research on what usually happens regarding losses then maybe you need a break?

Since my topic was just deleted. Can I help CCP in any way to handle this situation? I am not really professional, but I assume after 15 years and 3-4 weekends of DDOS problems I would have a solution.

Eve online is back.

The question is: I use Wireshark to monitor my network from time to time.

Is there anyway to use Wireshark to capture the node or ISP that directed the attack since the attack would have gone through the game and then into my connection with the launcher?

u guys at CCP should have never ever touched the ingame chat. its quite obvious: since chat changes there seems to be a huuuuge security gap used to ddos the server on a weekly basis . this is very sad to watch a game die slowly but steady, stop outsourcing things to save money. or at least be honest and tell the player " we consider to sell eve ( or even the complete company of ccp) to EA games "…cuz thats what it looks like since 2018…

it serves two purposes: to piss users off and to cost the provider money.

@CCP: Thanks for adding a hotlink to the thread from the announcement banner - I know it’s a small thing, but I for one appreciate it (god/devil is in the details, after all  )

i’m back in !!!

No, this is not how that works.

What they do is send a lot of requests (usually from a botnet from all over the world) to the game servers.

This clogs up the connections / routers / switches / servers itself / etc…
This causes lag, packet drop and more issues - and thus making the game very slow or even unavailable.

That’s what she said.

Leave me alone I lost my ship, I can moan if I want to… stop moaning about me moaning.

Couldn’t they just reset everything to a certain point or am I completely naive in thinking that? Would save a lot of tickets asking for compensation for their losses.

thats impossible.

If you knew what you were talking about, you would know that this is complete bullcrap.

A DDOS is not a security vulnerability, it is simply someone (often using a botnet) sending/requesting enormous amounts of data - more than either the network or the servers can handle.
