2018/05/10 - Connectivity Issues - DDoS Attack

CCP…we understand that a DOS attack is not your fault…
How ever Please understand that us your loyal customers (players) are not at fault either
It would not cost CCP any thing (except a few hours maybe) to replace any Ships, fittings, or cargo lost by us due to the attack.
A simple roll back would replace lost items…
Also please consider extending the event due to all the down time…
Thank you

I’m asking the same thing. One of the ISD’s in the help channel literally told me that there is little they can do to mitigate a DDOS attack. I couldn’t believe CCP allows a representative say that.

PSA: File a ticket for your losses.

This is because it is true. It is hard and expensive to mitigate DDOS attacks, especially for games where you want a minimal latency.

Edit: Depending on the exact type of attack it can even be fairly impossible.

I can’t wait for them to take a year to actually respond to any of the tickets.

Why? It’s the truth. They’re hardly orchestrating the attacks against their own servers, they don’t know when it will start, or when it will end.

ehmm…u know u need to have a connection to said server in the first place, to send any kind of request to it. and theres not many ways to connect to the eve server ( tranquility) in a legal way…which means by having a game account. and i doubt theres like 5000k bots sending requests or some other data trash. so if u would have any idea about servers you wouldnt talk such bullcrap

the ■■■■ with you man? much salt dude.

Prepare your scooping webs for drone farming. :smiling_imp:

Are you kidding? Like you don’t even have to be a InfoSec guy to Google how to prevent and mitigate the damages:

Other than having the port numbers and IP Addresses, which are easily found.

that is just a really, really bad idea since the database is dynamic and updates so often they’d need the entire resources of Google to store all the data.

Am I the only one that finds this hilarious? I bet there are players right now so ate up with EVE they are considering bleeding out slow in the bathtub over losing a pixelated ship…

Any news on what’s doing on? This is happening far too frequently now.

Yes, DDOs is out of the control of CCP. Prevention and protection is not. Simple choice : take the money as profit or invest to improve (DDOS). So before more “we love you” … this is business. I am not getting the service that I want.

Right your super trollers . can you give CCP some rest maybe? they are working their backside off to get the server stabilized so we can log on again and have our fun., The fault is the attackers’ allone and I wish there could be done something
to track them down and stop them. Maybe that would be a constructive way for the future?

Hahahaha no you do not need an account to be able to connect to a server or initiate communication.

It is exactly most likely thousants of bots of a botnet abusing one or more parts of EVE.
Either just filling the bandwidth with random crap, abusing API endpoints or abusing the login process backend - or nummerous other things that might be exposed for the client to work well.

In a “legal” way? Do you think DDOS’ers connect to CCP’s servers in a “legal” way?
