2018/05/10 - Connectivity Issues - DDoS Attack

and yes u send a connection request to that server…or any kind of data trash…so why should the server accept any data incoming from outside game accounts/ccp and all the included things? ever thought about that? thats why i implemented " legal way" in ma reply

You must be fun to have around at home when something breaks.

“Honey, something in the tv broke !” “Wait a moment, I’ll just google it and fix it ! No need to bring it in for repairs !”

And how exactly do you propose the server to know if it is a ‘legitimate’ connection without actually being able to connect and provide authentication data first?

The DDOS isn’t even doing that, just flooding the open address and port in order to stop connections.

Please stop talking about stuff you obviously know nothing about.

You know how a DDoS attack works right? The server does reject the “illegal” requests, DDoS works by sending thousands every second that the server has to deal with.

Sorry, DDoS does NOT work that way.

You send traffic, not requests it’s about bandwith in this case and flooding the pipe with more traffic than it can squeeze thru.

I am disgruntled player what can I say?

Much fanboying going on throughout this thread though.

so explain to me why is it an “open adress” in the first place? that sounds kinda stupid.

because the clients need to be able to connect to it.

Because in order to connect to it, it has to be open. If it were closed you’d never be able to log in. Which would defeat the purpose of the whole thing.

ye rthat sounds to me like the client is the key to open the door to the server/game…but obviously it isnt…cause theres no door…its just an open hole free for all or what? that…is…stupid.

Look at it like this.

The server ‘open’ port is like a keyhole in a door. You hold the key (your account info) and can open the door by using that key.

DDOS attacks work by filling the keyhole so much that you can’t push your key inside in order to open the door.

If the connection were not open, it’d be like plugging up the keyhole completely so nobody can put their key in.

Does that make more sense?

but shoudltn the client be tha thing that allows u to connect to the server in the first place? like i said before " be the key to the door"? i dont get why the server mechanics work like that : be open to all connections…even if they not even remotely related to the game or its users? man thats like hving wall mart open all day wihtou cashiers / security or anything…

Yeah, just don’t have an EVE client and play Single-Player… Wait

This is getting out of hand. Not only constant daily server takedowns, but also interface lag, which wasn’t there just couple weeks ago.

Not hard at all if your talking about severs, why is the authentication sever the same as the primary gaming server? Why they even on the same connection? Just like DDOS uses proxies as a means to do what they do, they can be equally used to prevent attacks. Eves initial request server should be separated from it’s gaming server, where you get forwarded onto after being authenticated. DDOS should only prevent people from connecting that aren’t already ingame.

oh indeed that makes sense to me  thx

that sounds like it should be

least you can do to make it up to us now CCP is to make the game in 8k, seasonpass and lootboxes. this game is getting out of fashion

So basically once the game is being played the IP should switch from the launcher/client to the server / client so that a DDoS will only take place on the launcher so that if a DDoS takes from someone playing the game, the DDoS can be tracked down much easier?

I am going to have to say that the attack came from somewhere in Russia.

Russian gamer’s use a lot of different connection methods to connect to Eve Online from what I have read.
