The writing between the lines when they released the 64 bit client is eventually their base system reqs will likely change. As long as they continue to support the 32bit version you will be ok’ish but as soon as they raise that min req bar you might be screwed (like I am).
If they remove 32 bit client option, they are forcing you to make a choice. Upgrade your computer to continue playing, or quit. A third option could be to cancel several account subscriptions.
You run Windows 7 and complain when the game gets updates that are necessary for future development.
Think about it rationally. They can move on and modernize the game, or they can stick stubbornly to 32 bit, then the game will age badly and even less new players will stick around in the future.
How often do you see Ultima Online or Everquest 1 in the news these days?
After finally passing the 50% mark in May, Windows 10 stalled in June. Windows 7 held steady despite the short window left before support runs out.
Apparently, just six months before Windows 7 hits retirement, users decided to take a break from migrating to the latest shiny, Windows 10.
According to web metrics company Net Applications, anyway.
The chances that everyone pressed Pause in June are about the same as pocketing a million from a scratch-it. In other words, highly unlikely. But that’s what Net Applications claimed Monday.
Windows 7’s share of all personal computers barely budged in June, remaining at 35.4%, and its portion of the PCs running Windows stayed put at 40.1%. (The second number was significantly larger than the first because Windows does not power every personal computer; in June, Windows ran 88.3% of the world’s machines. All but a miniscule fraction of the rest ran macOS, Linux or Chrome OS.)
Windows 7 is still used by more than a third of PC users. Windows 10 has only just reached half.
Now how about you stop comparing Windows 7 to ancient games like EQ and UO when more than a third of PC’s still use windows 7 and it’s not that far behind Windows 10 in terms of users.
It would be mad if CCP wanted to alienate more than a third of their potential customerbase.
We’re not here to discuss market data of Windows, by the way, which is influenced by companies not upgrading their machines either. Heck, some companies still use XP or worse, totally pushing it. Some programs some companies use wouldn’t work on a newer OS, which forces them to stick to some ancient system.
Gamers are using 10 these days, because that’s what companies are developing for, and I’m glad CCP does so, too.
Heh, if you’re still running win7 you’ve got bigger issues than the eve client consuming more ram.
Just because 1/3 of people have nfi what they’re doing does not make it a valid point. User base is probably the worst aspect to use when determining if an OS is good or not.
As has been stated previously, you really shouldn’t worry about the slight increase in ram usage, it’s expected. Windows will handle it, and unless you’re doing some very heavy video processing or similar in the background I doubt you’ll notice a difference either.
Considering how much effort CCP is putting into trying to grow the playerbase and retain players, yeah, I do think they will care about an issue that could cost them subscriptions.
