A genuine question

What…GD?

Hmmm… If it was the CEO, my guess is that it was partially a matter of burn out. I’m not saying this justifies the response but it does make things a little easier to understand.

Imagine everyday you log in, your indox is flooded with evemails.

At least a quarter are internal stupid drama you don’t really want to deal with, but have to. Why is my ship replacement late? Why haven’t we decced X yet, when will we dec Y, this fleet comp is crap and after 2 days in game and an hour of eft I can provide better, he shot a blue, a blue shot me, no I didn’t, yes you did, etc.

The rest are probably bitter rants or complaints who lost ships because they don’t understand EVE or the war Dec mechanics, and to such people you are the scum of the earth and they will let you know it. Oh the vile drivel that must end up in the inboxes of the CEOs. It must truly suck. I sent about a year as head of a large group and I saw some pretty mean evemail sent my way, and we weren’t exactly the war deccing group. I can only imagine how much worse it is for Marmite, Orphanage, PIRAT, etc. In the least it probably heavily colors how you interact with the rest of EVE.

So I’m not saying it’s justified but man, I can sure understand why the OP received such a response.

Hehe, but they know what they are going into. Nobody forces them. If that is their definition of fun? Well… let them have it. :joy:

Remember…In their minds you should be thanking and worshiping them for going out of their way to provide you with “content” and showing you how to correctly play EVE. If they blow up any of your ships make sure you kiss their rear and thank them for being awesome! They like that.

Thank GOD someone finally declared war on me! It was getting so dull around Jita with the only entertainment being the local chat spam! But may I ask you for a small favor? Teeny itsy bitsy favor? Please don’t shoot me with EMP ammo? I’m allergic to EMP. Shoot everything else, Phased Plasma, Nuclear, whatever. Just not EMP, please. Damn Spaceship Command skill book was faulty and shorted out on me in training. Repeatedly.

What about Mjolrn light missiles? Are they ok?

I think so. I’ll have my diplos contact your diplos if they aren’t, to negotiate new rules of engagement. But until then just no EMP please.

Everyone says this, but if one in twenty ignores or doesn’t notice the war and flies around with 1bil in loot, those 20 wardecs paid for themselves.

They’re gambling, but the odds are on their side.

It’s the exact same reason bullies on a school ground exist…

People choose to be d1cks mostly because they don’t have the capacity to be creative or constructive, so their primitive mental-status dictates that nobody else can enjoy the world either.

The answer to your question is both ‘Just Because’ and ‘Because CCP facilitates this behavior’.

The short answer is you got noticed.

The long answer varies depending upon the situation; but, I’ll use an example from my current activities in game as an extreme example of how these situations arise.

I deal in information, smuggle, “fix” things, as such I’m out an about constantly.

Last fall I noticed a newbie corp in Sinq Laison. Usually once a week I’d pass through their area of space and see them busy as bees. One Sunday in November, I was traversing their system and witnessed a convo in local, between their membership and a merc. (We’ll refer to him as “A”.) “A” in my opinion over stepped, so I stopped in the system. Almost immediately “A” left the system, so I could not gather exactly what was going on. So, I started poking around. I started by

o/

after about 45 minutes (I kid you not) one of the locals o/ back.

I immediately private convoed him, and asked what on earth had happened. My contact explained the newbie corp had been war decced and they’d just paid their war deccer off, and everything was now cool.

We had a bit more conversation, and my contact (not a member of the newbie corp) suggested to me the situation had resolved itself and I could be on my way. He was very polite.

Well, as none of the newbies had returned my o/, and there was nothing more to be seen in local, and I could see now the war was ending early (in game corp bio war tab), I left.

I did keep tabs on these enterprising newbies, that system, and my contact. I did not keep tabs on “A”.

I’m now going to fast forward, to this month. I gain my “content” sometimes by providing “scouting or intel” war dec assistance, and I use the ally requests as a source of potential contacts.

Well, I see a group over in Derelik has an ally request up. So, I email their CEO and inquire as to the kind of help they are interested in getting.

The CEO emails a really, imo, cheeky answer back. So, I decide to go visit him.

Next day, I’ve done about 44 jumps to go see this “wit”, and he’s online. We have a convo. It’s amusing (from my perspective), and during the course of the convo, the CEO mentions he’s hired a merc corp to help in his war already. (Subtext is: “thank you very much, you can leave now”).

I tell him I’ve heard good things about this merc corp, and wish him well. And I leave.

On my way back, I look up the war decing corp, and the merc group.
(Heck I’ve got 40 some odd jumps ahead of me, I’ve got to do something to pass the time.)

And low and behold, the war deccer is “A”, the same guy I saw last November mouthing off to the newbie corp in Sinq Laison. He’s got a new corp, but it’s the same character.

My interest sky rockets at this, and I look through all his wars to see what he’s been up to between now and then.

And he’s been back to the newbie corp, war deccing them, just the week before.

I rush to their system and see no one. Not one of them is about.

I start making inquiries.

My original contact from back in November tells me the newbie corp has collapsed due to their last war dec, with “A”. He demoralized them to the point of collapse. Their membership has either quit the game or moved to null.

I decide I’ve found my new “content”.

Now, a friend of mine is a professional highsec mercenary, and he asks me what I’m doing in game, and I tell him about the newbie corp, witnessing the altercation with the war deccer “A” last November, my conversations with the Sinq Laison contact, the CEO in Derelik, and the collapse of the newbie corp.

Bam, war dec one hits the floor.

“A” closes his corp, and joins another merc group.

Bam, down goes my alt’s war dec against "A"s new group.

And I, on this character, start combing through their wars offering assistance to any corp asking for allies.

How long will I keep my war dec going? I’ve no idea, till I tire of it, I’m sure.

But, these two wars stem entirely from my being in system as the newbie corp and “A” were negotiating their war dec surrender last November.

You see, they got noticed.

As I wrote way back at the beginning, this is an extreme example; but an example nonetheless.

My point is…my friend, the professional mercenary, would not have war decced "A"s corp when he did had…I not drawn his attention to this situation.

“A” was not even on his radar.

This is extremely incorrect. Current research show that bullying tends to stem from stress in life that the bully is unable to properly cope with. It has nothing to do with their capacity to be creative or constructive.

In reading through the thread, I lost sight of your original question.

My apologies for the wall of text above.

You were asking why they responded negatively to your inquiry as to the reason for the war dec. If you really wrote

I’d say that set the tone for the rest of the conversation past that point.

I think it’s somewhat like asking “why does a douchbag get off on being a douchbag?” It’s sort of a meaningless question, or at the very least a question you aren’t likely to get answers to, or to find enlightening even if you did find answers to it.

Last time I was active I was wardecced in similar fashion you described. I just packed up and moved stuff out of the system I was in, and while jumping through the gate was attacked by one of the wardeccers on the other side of the gate. Largely through sheer luck I was able to evade the attack (hit cloak but botched the warp away, had to slow boat around while he flew corkscrews trying to uncloak me, and he literally got within a couple thousand meters of doing it).

In your addressing it the way you did, and even questioning their behavior as you are doing now, it is similar to “feeding a troll” on forums. You haven’t done anything wrong, mind you, but there are better ways of spending your time, and you are just feeding into what your enemies want you to do.
