A slave can dream of freedom, a thrall has even that taken from it. A slave has access to clothing, food and security because as an asset their well being translates to their worth being kept or improve. A thrall has no such things and if they die another takes their place and it is like nothing of value was lost.
Do keep in mind that the above is not a universal definition of thrall, or even slave. These words will have different meanings and implications depending on who youâre talking to at the time. An Imperial slave and one out in Curse are two very different things. A thrall among certain Sani Sabik sects is a very different thing than a thrall in a Sansha context, etc.
As an example, the way the words are used in my culture, a thrall is far better off than a slave. Of course, both are highly illegal, but the concepts remain.
Context always matters, even if every variation on the theme remains deplorable. Slave, Indentured Servitude, thralldom, serfdom, etc. Itâs not particularly helpful to disregard the specific details of each kind, and the context in which theyâre used.
Indeed, in Gallente space the difference between a slave and a thrall is handcuffs or a leashâŚ
In all seriousness if you want a solution to generational slavery stop keeping slaves. Youâll find the problem simply disappears then.
We already have one Nauplius, following this⌠path. I am not sure thatâs an adequate solution though.

He doesnât âstop keeping slavesâ, he murders them. Heâs basically just a scumbag who gets his kicks from wholesale murder of the helpless. Heâs pretty much a waste of oxygen in that sense.
By âstop keeping slavesâ I mean free them, pay them a proper wage for their work and move on from a barbarous practice. Iâd have thought that you as a Caldari would understand the necessity to pay a being a fair wage for a days work, along with the freedom to choose for whom that work is done.
You. I like you.

First of all, why would someone dream of freedom, unless they are freedom fanatics?
Itâs the same as to say âA criminal can dream of murder, but a lawful citizen has even that taken from it!â
And second⌠I donât really understand people who claim that human life doesnât have price. Human life canât be priceless, and every thrall has a cost, he canât just be something without value. After all, the owner need to acquire him somehow, right?Thatâs effort.
There will be a lot of resources used to catch, imprison, convince, buy, steal, grow your own, or acquire that thrall by any other mean. And if nothing else, the thrall will at least cost the means he was acquired.
Pretty much by murdering someone you stop keeping them.

Using semantics is a poor way to deflect from the key point. Do you not agree as a Caldari that slavery is repugnant, and that all who work should be fairly paid for their efforts?
Even you dream of freedom from Gallente oppression Miss Kim!
Also, Sansha have thralls and they get them for free.
Diana Kim is as oppressed by the Gallente as Iâm oppressed by chocolate.
Diana refuses to allow her translation software to use context-based algorithms. She does this so she can intentionally and knowingly set up a straw man to argue against âfreedomâ because in her native language, âfreedomâ is the same word as âchaosâ. She and I have had extensive conversations in the past, face to face, about the difference between âchaosâ and âself-determination and agencyâ.
She knows damned well that when people on the IGS refer to âfreedomâ in the context of slavery, theyâre talking about an individualâs personal agency to make decisions about how to live their own life, a condition she enjoys and would very much object to losing.
Put simply, sheâs hiding behind an intentional linguistics barrier to troll you with a strawman.
Iâm too dumb to think my favorite Caldari Officer is anything but the paragon I believe she actually is, Miss Arrendis.
Inefficient? Yes. But repugnant? Thatâs way too far-fetched.
I consider repugnant gallente democracy.
I consider repugnant gallente hedonism.
I consider repugnant sexuality.
I consider repugnant all these trolls in IGS.
I consider repugnant traitors.
But slavery? Itâs just different. And, of course, illegal in the State. You donât need to consider an illegal activity repugnant, you must consider it only illegal in order to detain ones who violate it.
I will consider way more repugnant people, who brought that into our space because it is illegal here (and thus showing disrespect to our laws!), than the phenomenon by itself.

We donât have Gallente oppession, Ms. Ruil, we have won our independence in a long bloody war two hundred years ago. Yes, gallente may be trying to oppress us again, but so far their attempts are smashed by our defenses. All they are able to do now is oppress several colonies in Black Rise and torture PoWs, but even that will end as soon as the Federation will be destroyed.
Excuse me, but I disagree with this, Ms. Ruil, because from my opinion Sansha donât get thalls for free. First of all, they launch an uplifting raids, that include incursion into defended space, it is a military operation, and quite costly one. Out fleets almost completely wipe them out. And after they get captives they perform surgery on them to turn them into loyal biomachines, and that includes even more expenditure. Overall, it is way far from being free.
They get them for free in the same way that any minerals you get from mining are free Miss Kim.
I believe their losses to be too colossal to consider it free, Ms. Ruil. Itâs not like asteroids blow up about 95% or your mining fleet, right?
There was this one time a freak Mercoxit accident and a fleet of Ventures in Pure BlindâŚ
At this point Miss Kim, either the Sansha are absolutely brain dead retarded, or their incursions somehow someway break even on their profit line. Even with you being an expert in Sansha disposal, we will never be sure!
I would put my money on the first option, Ms. Ruil!
You know, at first Sansha incursion looked quite strong forces, lots of out ships died, but capsuleers quickly found their patterns and now fight against Sansha is 100% safe. He loses everything, capsuleers lose nothing. With all the time while incursions are ongoing, Sansha changed his pattern only once, and several years ago. His minions do same errors over and over and over and over again.
Knowing capsuleer fleets that wipe out Sansha fleets and Sanshaâs resources and ships, if I were on his place, Iâd field about 95% counter against every capsuleer fleet in just about 5 minutes. Sansha instead prefers lose ships in millions instead of fix rigid patterns of their behavior.
Absolutely. Brain. Dead. Retatded.
Though I shouldnât complain. It really makes our job easier!
Well Miss Kim, we also the following to consider. Nullsec and Lowsec incursions go mostly unopposed of capsuleer counter-measures for their entire duration. Then again, surely the human stock the Sansha gets in said space is low quality, so it makes sense for them to throw away their ships for a shot at getting high value slaves from civilized space.
Risk versus reward.
