Any theories on why so many people have quit over the last 2 years?

Just having a minor attack of pedantry & I don’t mean any harm by it, but Sleepers aren’t aliens, they’re earth descendants like everyone else in the cluster

Everybody has their reasons. Mine was two fold as Cannibal Kane. My gameplay was dying fast at the hands of CCP with every change. No more watchlist was a big one for me as I just could not put in the time anymore to fly to a system to see if a target is online. I tried, i really tried to wardec still after the changes but it was just to cumbersome. No wonder the merc corps now just camp trade hubs routes and hubs. Even more so now after they made it possible to wardec as many corps as you can.

And the second reason, time. The added time to hunt people meant spending more time staring at my screen at home. The idea around my gameplay was to able to log in, check the watchlist for online targets, run multiple locators as well as use the locates channel excessively, find/hunt/stalk my targets kill some of them log of an then go and do something else.

I made my isk with that gameplay, it sustained me. If it cannot anynore I see no point. I dumped over 100bil into this new char using isk I had left. Maybe one day I will be back.

Met a lot of good people in eve as targets and friends. Targets that became friends. Maybe one day.

And on that note… Kane is out of here. Apologies if this was a necro. I check the forums now and again for updates.

A Kane necro is better than the other ~640 posts here.

Watch list was major major major. …, all to protect nullsec supers.

I started because of your and Psychotic Monks blogs way back in 2010.

Here’s the reason: The game attracts an older player. Unlike myself, initially a lot of you guys were teenagers or college students with tons of free time on your hands. Now you are getting old like me. You are getting married, starting a busy career, having kids.

People like that don’t have three hours in the evening to dedicate to video games. Maybe just an hour.

I have always had trouble participating in fleets. If the typical roam lasts 1.5 hours - I cannot go. I can’t spare 1.5 hours. I frequently have to take an interceptor or sabre instead of a DPS or Logi ship so I can suicide at the end, because I don’t have time to fly home at the end of strategic ops.

Someone like me will never own a super or a titan, because I can’t afford the time to obtain the isk to build it and replace it, and I can’t afford the time to participate in big tidi fleets for hours on end. If the kids need to be picked up from school, or my boss needs me, I would have to self-destruct my titan in the middle of a battle and do my job.

People with real life responsibilities can’t lead a null sec corporation or dedicate themselves to a massive fleet battle where capitals are bubbled and fighting for six hours straight.

Eve is time consuming, you guys are growing up, and you don’t have time. I think that’s the biggest obstacle.

If Eve were going to be changed to keep people interested, it needs to be rescaled so that everything takes less than an hour. It needs to go from requiring full dedication to being designed for the casual player.

Eve isn’t designed for casuals. It’s designed to be a hobby - not a 30 minute romp before you switch to another game.

I think that is the biggest threat to the survival of the game.

It would not be the biggest threat if teenagers and college students were joining Eve. But they aren’t, I guess.

This is the exact problem with killing ratters (carriers and mjd battleships specifically).

Space Cats.

This is such a poignant comment for me. In my two (all remaining accounts) recent sub cancellations this is effectively the cause. The hours of enjoyment per dollar is so low now that I can no longer justify spending any money on EVE. This was a very sad acknowledgement to have to make. Most of my friends have long since left the game. The remaining friends who were still playing EVE have been playing other games recently (Albion mostly - another time sink I do not have the disposable time for).

This forced me to realize that I simply do not have the time necessary to enjoy what I’ve loved about EVE (PVP 0.0 and wspace, and exploration). And if I cannot do those things any longer and most of my friends no longer play either then I’ll not stick around as I find skill training online, missioning, and marketing very unengaging. I have better things to do with my time and money. Sadly, for me and for CCP.

Citation Needed and Requested please.

Theories?

One word - Fozzie.

No other single dev has done more to destroy this game than Fozzie. CCP should have fired him years ago.

Try this:
http://evenews24.com/2016/04/25/dev-blog-eve-online-fanfest-2016-three-day-review/

it’s a summary from fanfest 2016. The original presentation should be still on youtube (and maybe twitch).

Nothing decided, it’s obvious that persons being bumped has no option how to solve their situation so 3 min timer would be enough to gather fleet instead of have ability to bump forever.

Well… maybe. I do not like pointing fingers at a single person without knowing what the background is. So I will just say… CCP.

I agree with that change as well. If you are not prepared to gank something your bumping within 3 minutes, you do not deserve the kill.

Even more true as Fozzie is just public face of the whole command and not sole owner and director of the game.

The game use to be ruthless cess pool of bastards.

Rutheless to new and old players alike.

These days you get banned because you said something wrong and someone got buthurt. Its a different game.

CCP watered the game down to cater for casual crowd.
Sadly this isnt actually a casual friendly game. People join because they heard stories of corp thefts and PVP where you loose everything.

In EVE no one cares - use to be the moto.
Not so much anymore.

Great trolls and bastards left the game / got perma banned. Sadly we had a very small number of people who actually did some fun stuff in game.

As much as I dislike Mittens - he stands a top of the pile, alone. The rest are simply gone.

CCP killed theire own game with too many rules.

EDIT:

Also, the game is boring at its core. I mean REALLY boring. Its insane people that make it interesting. Not game mechanics - people. And when you remove the insanely interesting people what you are left with is a diluted game that is easy to forget.

what about grayscale?

Greyscale was from another time.

When CCP was trolling people in forums and game alike.

When CCP Soundwave made his famous : “Welcome to Eve Online. Here’s a rubik’s cube, go ■■■■ yourself.” - designer Kristoffer Touborg, discussing Eve’s UI.

Sadly Fozzie made more bad decisions the Greyscale.
They both participated in sad numbers we have today.

Aye. Agreed.

i miss SoundWave. He wanted to push factional warfare to a whole new level, and he made GCC pods legal targets.

Yes just one more nerf will fix things and people will start logging in again.

Maybe it is time to stop nerfing and make the game dangerous (read interesting) again…?
