Its because it was never meant to be some kind of noble sacrifice.
During the Incarna mess two former corpmates who were vets biomassed for the same reason the OP did. They were fed up and wanted to break ties with the game by erasing all trace of themselves with no plan to return and not wanting to restart. If I was as mad as he was (and he was mad despite signing off with the “good luck”) and my ex-corpmates were I would do that too in a second.
I have always been sorry to see players leave because of certain attitudes due to total ignorance, because being intelligent certainly does not derive from knowing a video game, but from knowing how to be patient and listen, just like out there, this gives a value to oneself, but I have realized for too long that I am in a community that is too old and toxic in many ways. You won’t get any answers here from those who feel part of what I said, for the simple reason that all of this has distracted too many people by pushing them away and making them selfish, gluttonous and disrespectful, even beyond a screen. Not all of this is essential, but it should have been in a slightly more human way, which many old users here don’t have the slightest idea what it is, because they are subject to Autarchy and self-sufficiency / selfishness. You have better things out there, whether it’s in real life or some other stupid video game to try and play around with.
Some players are pretty passionate about the game. Can’t fault them for it. It sure as heck kept me around long enough and I don’t stay long on most other MMOs.
I assume you mean, bittervets that have been playing the game too long, and not older people in general.
But to the point, some of these people were selfish, gluttonous and disrespectful long before they started “helping.”
They are not in rookie chat to help anyone, but rather for self-servicing motivations that harvest celebration and esteem from the newer players. They don’t really care about the quality or accuracy of the advice given. They just want to “impress” people and “shine the light” on how amazing they are. Of course, they aren’t, but rookies lack the experience to recognize it. That’s why these people haunt that channel.
If joining players are saying that about every chat zone is toxic… that’s something. Just set up a corp, put up a recruiting announcement, say you’re new (not the same as n00b, just new :)) Make a good new guys corp and new friends. Stay in high sec, mission, mine, explore ship fittings, whatever you want. Move on from there is you want to. Or not. No little jackass can dictate to you how to enjoy this game.
