They look very nice. CCP’s ship redesign is always a hit or miss proposition. In general I don’t like when they take a lopsided ship and ‘balance’ it. For example, I loved the look of the old scorpion, the new one doesn’t have the same appeal. I also thought the redesign of the Tempest and the Rupture were not as nice as the original models. I’ll admit, these industrial designs look much nicer than the originals though.
I made something more appealing to me, still I wanted it to become cute, not so crippled and miserable.
You just turned the Imicus into a fish noo it cannot be allowed slap the interbus skin on it omg lol.
There was always something fishy about gallente designs.
You did that? Pretty nice! I especially like the fishy side view.
Yes, Blender and GIMP. I did not spend a lot of time on it tho, just a rough block concept art in 3D and materials, then painted over on render in GIMP.
I still have some (bad) scribbles of a SoE Destroyer… One day I will have the time and motivation to get myself into Blender.
Also Youtube-Videos showing the animations are there.
What some don’t show are that the smoke released by the industirals is staying there after the ship exited warp an sits still. I love such details.
I like these industrial ships with Steel Cardinal SKIN from the shop, good thing they are cheaper now because in next week they are decomisioned.
Nice design but if CCP would change the Helios into something like that … sad that I can’t kill myself as capsuleer.
Did you know… the Tornado was designed by a player, and CCP gave him good hard cash and some other good loot?
I see they have put a lot more work than me into that. I just spend few hours and that is all. All the attack battlecruisers from that line were designed by capsuleers, I mean players. Talos, Naga, and Amarr one too.
For Apple Ipad 16 GB, it those time, plus cash, I am not surprised. What happened with those contests for ship design? I think they should come back.
I am so going to miss my Navitas mining ship fit…
You actually can bio-mass your character in the login screen if I remember that correct. That’s as close as you can get to “death” in Eve.
It’s almost Minbari!
Oh, I dont think I ever saw that before! But their ships look more organic, like real fish almost. Flowing lines from top to bottom, Gallente have to get some straight lines, sharper, industrial, nearly right angle stuff here and there.
As for ships needing redesign I would also work on Gallente Catalyst, made it majorly symetrical too, and add a drone to it, one drone, and one less gun. Iconic gallente “drones on everything”.
Symetrical designs profit from having a lot better textures because of reusing the same, larger area for both sides. Every new ship will probably be majorly symetrical for that reason.
I think that one drone would barely be worth managing it.
Except… in fleets. It would open up some entertaining options. I imagine 10 Catalysts with armor repair bots. That would be decent logistics for a small gang.
If I had to redesign a Catalyst I would try to keep the current shape and make it symmetrical along it’s X-axis. So you keep the more-wide-than-long look.
I would like to see a redesign of the Gallente industrials next. (After we get the Osprey & Basilisk) The same “face” on every ship appeared always weird and ugly to me.
I made another redesign sketch, this one took me a bit more time tho.
For comparison, here is old Catalyst (currently in the game).
Showing the capacitor on the hull?! Free intel for your opponent! D:
Pretty cool though. I like the look of the coockpit, the “fin” beneath it and the little tube on the side a lot.
But it looks also a bit like a Hecate who got the wings partially cut of. If I would see that in Eve I guess I would think more it’s a Frigate rather than Destroyer.
I messed around with the flying wing design actually because of Hekate and its simplicity, but wanted to give it more “old” look. Traditional round sections of Catalyst, plus wings that are narrowing down as they go. Capacitor would not show actual state of it, I think it could play animation that would light all the stripes from center to outer ridge, cyclically. Galente ships have this sort of animations and circular “capacitors” already build in. Amount of details I wanted to up from the frigate, because larger ships I think should have them more, but destroyers are stil fairly small ships.
I think CCP can do better than me tho.
I like the asymetrical ships. They look much more puropse built. Lie they put all the inner parts together then built the hull around them. Like the A10 warthog.
