First of all I would like to thank CCP for all the new ship models that they have been releasing. They look great guys!
But that is also why I am here today on the forums, to complain. =)
Where is the Amarr Battle Cruiser luvin? Is it just me or does the Amarr BC ships look like crap?
The Prophecy looks like a fat Albatross, and the Harbinger SHOULD look like like the Apocalypse’s younger brother.
This is just my two cents but I honestly think the Prophecy should be more streamline with larger wings ( almost like a COUGH Klingon bird of prey COUGH ) , and the Harbinger should loose the lil wings and have more of a wicked nose to make it look like a sly smaller Apocalypse.
Please let me know what you guys think. I would love to hear your feedback and to get a lil Amarr luvin from CCP.
Larger wings… Hmmmm… I feel this is more of a “Here is my opinion” and you know how opinions go around these parts, some love it, some hate it.
But heres mine, they both look fancy and within Amarr style of being religiously smooth in some areas without exaggerating in wings, otherwise they have to add in more pointy ends the bigger they make them, and you know how often work accidents happen with those pointy ends!
Well, it’s not by snapping your fingers that ideas are born instantly, this is one of those things that require several attempts in a single model, time and eventually the approval of the rest of the company while Trying to please the player base, however, there are Always people that will dislike a model no matter how hard they try (a good example is this one guy that complained about the new Cormorant model quite recently). And of course, the dreaded Artist’s Block.
But I gotta say, I am looking forward to see the new Marshal model roll out, that is one sexy CONCORD battleship from what they showed us on their “In Development” video.
Unfortunately, that is just the way it goes when you have a large client base. There will always be people who are unhappy, and others who will be very vocal about it.
From a personal standpoint, i love the remodels especially the moving features, but the whole art team have been doing wonderful things lately, the explosions, command bursts, the stars. They are modernising Eve, and quite frankly I am still in love with what I believe is the most beautiful video game out there
ccp stopped trying imo, half he ship remodels look bad. other half are caldari generally. the art quality is very inconsistent apart from the recent string of caldari redesigns and the dominix. yet we still have the awful ships like the armageddon and revenant and cyclone.
maller got redid several years ago and still looks fantastic, as does the apocalypse but they could be spruced up compared to recent caldari designs to have better texture and more detail. the blackbird is insanely good.
all amarr frigates need a redesign, the destroyers too, coercer less so but the dragoon is a steaming pos, its clear they didnt even try with it and just stuck the front of an impairor on a boxy engine. and yes the harbinger and prophecy desperately need to be completely redone from the ground up.
ccp mentioned in the past about going in on the ship redesigns and with the cormorant and deciding whether they wanted to keep aspects of the original or do somethin completely new in the youtube video they made. the cormorant came out fairly well but they ignored some more more interesting designs because they threw out anything that didnt resemble the original. same for the rupture. they didnt even change the rupture and the more intersting designs they had in the concept art were the ones they didnt use and it just ended up looking exactly the same. dont even want to start on the vexor with the silly pop out guns and same general design its always had.
@CCP_Falcon@CCP_Avalon@CCP_Phantom@random other devs.
the harbinger and prophecy would be a good case to do something completely new. dont constrain yourselves by sticking to the current failed designs. They are monstrosities that dont fit amarr design convention. theyre fat and ugly and have awful textures. scrap them entirely. look to the curved thick armor and sleek designs elsewhere.
ive said this before but you really need to stop doing 1 ship at a time.
if you want tor redesign ships do them in groups.
i.e. all amarr cruisers in one go, all amarr bcs in one go, all gallente frigates in one go.
theres more than a hundred ships, if you only do 3 a year it will take you decades to revamp the ships. you need to either go in by tier and do all racial cruiser hulls, or even more extensively all cruisers across all races otherwise youre going to continue to meander about and accomplish nothing. not to mention the redesigns are rather inconsistent. the concord ships and minmatar rupture redesign were far below the quality of the cormorant, chimera, blackbird and going further back the apocalypse. go back and find out who did the good redeisgns and give them control.
cliffs: inconsistent redesigns
be more open to throwing out old ugly hulls
not enough are being redesigned in groups at a time.
thats been my biggest complaint. how many ships are in game?
how many redesigns do they do in a year? 3-4? it will take them decades to do any sort of meaningful overhaul.
why not group out all tech 1 frigates, then bang them out in one big group where theyre all consistent in quality across the board and be done with frigates.
why redesign 1 and then have to come back and grab another frigate. it doesnt take that much work. or break them up into empire groupings, of amarr cruisers, gallente bcs, minmatar frigates etc and do a group each season and be done with the revamp. theyre getting nowhere slowly as it currently is.
some of the designs from the old ship design contest are better than the actual designs in game.
id be ecstatic if they threw out the prophecy entirely and replaced it with the oblivion player made ship.
The problem with this is, how many art people do they have available for that task. How many man hours of labor are available to assign to just that. Versus how many man hours are needed for other art projects.
It sounds easy… but if you have 10 artists, working 40 hours a week you can factor roughly 400 man hours a week in labor, a project like that could take 400 hours a ship. There is a surprising number of small details in these ships.
If it were something like world of tanks or some other easy skin job game like that, it could be done in a couple of weeks with that many people. But it isnt.
I know it doesn’t take 4 months to add some metal rebar to a rupture and turn the front end of one of the models into a gun.
They should expand their art department if man power is an issue and give control to the guys who have done the good redesigns. Scrap project Valkyrie and that frees up some people right there on vaporware that no one uses.
It’s been several years since the event project started and maybe less than 5% of the ships have had a legitimate revamp that wasn’t just a tweak. Station interiors are still giant texture blops. And idk anyone who looks at debris fields in space so idk why they’re redoing those. I zoom all the way out so I can’t see them cause all the stuff and dust clouds on screen drop my frame rate.
They should have been done with every ship years ago.
Now I didn’t count them out myself but assuming this list is accurate/up to date ccp has knocked the cormorant and chimera of the list this year.
Vexor and rupture look the same and not much better so they don’t count. Only 200+ ships left to go.
That’s about it.
The Imperial Armed Forces have the oldest average chassis age of any military in New Eden. Just saying.
Some of the vessels in service with the IAF have been in active service for 70+ years… the average is around 40-45 years, with a couple of refits to keep them up to standard.
Because there’s a massive process to go through in order to change a ship design that involves like five different disciplines. A re-design is that - the same as introducing an entirely new ship in terms of load on the art and graphics team.
That and the fact that many of the ships in EVE are loved by the community, and look fine as they are. It’s completely wasted effort for our art team to constantly keep changing things that don’t need it.
Agreed. It’s more than apparent they didn’t try with the revenant at all. It’s undeniably the worst looking ship in the game by a wide margin and no one can disagree with that.
