They set the foundation for what became a system of fully codified laws which were of practical value, separated from any religious consideration, visible to all, and outlined in precise language with explicit definitions.
Thus the Romans created an approach to legal matters which were more or less copied by countless other societies and governments to this day.

I wouldn’t go THAT far, lol

Maybe not, granted. LOL!

This talk of ancient Rome comes in the middle of my current game of the Europa Barbaroum 2 mod of TW Medieval 2 Kingdoms expansion. “Quisque est barbarus alio” TM.
Playing Carthage starting in 272 BC, it is now 239 BC, I control a good portion of Spain, all of North Africa from Kyrene west (destroyed Numidia), but the Ptolomys declared war,
Lilubim is mine and Messana and Syrakousai are held by rebels and neither Rome nor I have made a play for Sicily.
Such fun, the Ham of Qart-Hadasht is pleased.

Great game. My favorite is Rome TW of course, lol.
I’m still plugging away at Atila TW and Crusader Kings III is also a good game.

I’m disappointed I can’t get original (Sega) version of Rome TW to play on windows 10. I miss Amazon TW.

I’ve always known Activision’s Total War. I didn’t even know Sega had a hand in it.

PS: I do remember the Sega logo now.

Is that a mod ?

Yes, a mod for Barbarian Invasion.

I listen to a podcast of a legal scholar, Richard Epstein. One of his favorite subjects is Roman law and how it has influenced our own.

Brisc and I were both there, I’m sorry you missed out.

Well, I wasn’t in Rome, I was in Massilia at the time so I didn’t see them but I overheard lots of Prefects who mentioned them.
He also mentioned Plebs and Carebears in the same sentence but I think he was confused.
