I have a bunch of cool IDEAS here are some of the ones I’ve painted so far
please reply in this thread if you want to talk about them, or other cool stuff in eve, I don’t have any friends outside of this game so thank you
One per race with racial weapons (laser / hybrid / proj / missile). Give HACs a role as counter-play to capitals. Account for the XL weapon’s cost when balancing minerals and make it a bit cheaper than other t2 cruisers. Big skill investment but hopefully big payoff.
Again, one per race, glorified floating hangars for a bunch of elite fight dorks, basically a single fighter squad BS, bridging the gap between drones and fighters. Lets players get used to the new UI/mechanics in combat without being in a 1b+ ship, and can act as defense against fighters for a BS fleet or OTHER COOL TACTICS let the sandbox decide…
An offensive siege battery intended to give the attacker some reward for complete control of a grid in a time-zone dictated by the defender. The citadel gunner can easily shoot them down if they are not accompanied by repair ships, especially while they are onlining and unfit. After 20 hours of being online they self destruct as if destroyed, and if destroyed in any way they drop their inhabitants and hangars into space, regardless of login status, as well as a 50/50 on dropping their launchers (if it has them) as usual.
MORE 2 COME
WOAH I know what you’re thinking what a great idea(s) yeah I know
I dont know if it’s ever been established whether or not the names we are familiar with are but colloquializations of their l337 designations.
If they’re not, and they in fact slapped those designations on their ships afterwards to be cute, then I’m afraid I can no longer in good conscience associate with the Caldari. Brb loading up Scorch.
Just what exactly do you think these ships would be able to do against capitals, apart from feed them kills?
A fleet of those battleships would get utterly WRECKED by well… any capital group fitted for anti-subs (HAW dreads/titans, carriers, supers).
A fleet of those cruisers wouldn’t be able to break anything unless they were ganking an isolated capital, which you can already do with existing ships. The tracking on an XL turret alone means they would have to be almost completely stopped to hit anything smaller than a sun. A stopped cruiser is a dead cruiser, especially when there’s a dread shooting back at it - even with XL, if the cruiser can hit the dread, odds are the dread will be able to hit the cruiser. I’ll let you guess which one will win that fight.
As you can see, the Dread takes 70%+ dps pretty easily, without paints or any real effort, while the Zealot takes below 0.001%. You vastly underestimate the signature disparity.
Fair enough. The subcap “counter-play” to caps will still get wrecked by caps though (as caps are never going to be unsupported). Which leaves the question of “why”? Subcaps can already kill caps, this offers no new avenue of attack.
Then of course, you need to tell me where they’re planning on putting a gun with a 4,000 M3 displacement on a HAC hull, when they have to step up to a battlecruiser hull in order to fit (in the case of the oracle at least) 8*20m3 = 160m3 of plain old Large turrets? I mean, the Oracle has literally twice the displacement over a Zealot, and it has to make significant sacrifices for guns that are 4% of the combined size?
Those battleships will just get defanged… fighters have safety in numbers (namely that if you can’t kill the wave before it gets to you, they’re gonna rip you to shreds unless you can tank them). The moment you strip those numbers down to a single fighter per ship, killing a fighter becomes all the more crippling. Given the volume of space that fighters consume, I can’t imagine the battleship would be able to carry more than 1-2 spare fighters let alone another squad. Once they get defanged they’ve lost a signficant part of their dps (at least half). The remaining ship would be a non-issue to any comparable number of other existing ships.
And of course you have to explain why the Caldari battleship has the same fighter capacity as the Caiman, a dreadnought.
It’s the same reason an Avatar doesn’t just fit thousands of Small Focused Laser IIs instead of capital guns. The same reason dual 250mm railguns uses the same ammunition as 425mm railguns, but the ammo that works in single 250mm railguns is different. The same reason you can’t just ignore concord and bomb in low sec etc…
You have to have some suspension of disbelief to enjoy a video game.
I disagree with you that the battleships would be useless, especially when you consider their ability to use SS fighters instead of regular light fighters, and how they would impact smaller gangs. You’d basically be flying both a high-dps frigate and a low-dps battleship at the same time, which brings a lot of cool game play implications.
while the ideas not new and been suggested several times you’d miss some key points in terms of mounting XL turrets on smaller hulls. it’s not only PG requirement but also CPU and Activation cost. For amarr’s hulls activation cost gonna be crucial part and 10% reduction is way too small. plus you need to extend hulls cargo bay due to the size of ammo. so i’d rather suggest to apply such features to T2 version of Attack BC’s or if its too much have assigned to the most unpopular Command BC such features.
And you really hurt all Gallente Lore by suggesting Caldari Fighter BS its a “No-No” while the name is cool but we all know that Caldari the most weakest in term sof using drones/fighters.
These aren’t meant to be race specific ships, just examples of what the ship class would look like on that race. So for example every race would have a T1 BS with a single fighter tube, each with a bonus to their racial fighters damage - and perhaps the Gallente one would have something extra for fighters instead of a secondary “gun” bonus like the other 3.
As for CPU and activation costs, I’d already taken those in to account. It’s pretty easy to mount one XL gun on a HAC and cover its capacitor, it comes out to being about the same as running 2 medium neuts (not hard), and the 80~ CPU just means you have to have some consideration for the fitting, akin to a covops cloak on a stratios, torps on bombers etc. Powerful modules require powerful sacrifices!
Don’t think it should compete with the “tanky t1 bses” we already currently have, rather be supplemental anti-fighter defense in BS blobs (its tank being its ability to ward off fighters with SS). As for small-gang I think having a ship that is already basically a high-dps-frigate AND a low-dps-battleship is already strong enough, that it can get by with a weaker secondary bonus (in this caldari case, 25% RoF to 5 launchers).
