There is a small subsection of the playerbase who think it would actually be useful and they all refuse to accept that literally any action performed inside the station by your avatar would be extremely slow compared to the current UI
Most people wouldn’t use it and only a handful of stations would even end up with other players in it and those would all be trade hubs, while it would be cute to begin with and people would try it they would ultimately switch back because it wouldn’t add anything of consequence
CCP realised this and correctly axed the project to work on other things, so now you just get to shoot each other on planets instead
The only use for CQ and/or WiS with current game the way it is without introducing some entirely new aspects and mechanics to the game would be to have players design their own clothes and sequence them for PLEX and sell them. Not sure how many would be interested in that.
The server is already handling 1k docked people in Jita, that won’t be something added.
It doesn’t matter for a server if it has to store “PlayerID” in the station_quests list for a chat server list, or “PlayerID” in the station_guests list to render a 3D model that earths combined supper computers take 5 years to render a single frame of. Only difference for hangar vs CQ is client-side load. You can re-make CQ without changing 1 bit of server code.
Yes for interactive WiS (multiple characters in same spot), the server load will increase because it need to keep track a players position, but since it is a separate location not in space, it can be handled as any type of instance, also on separate servers, and don’t have to put them all in same room, could make exactly the same structure as space currently has (rooms instead of grids). And a peaceful solution, will be way less serverload than people undocking to see each other (no hull armor shield constant updates, no weapons, no cargo to move between rooms, no brain boxes etc). If want to make it combat in stations, would end up needing a lot of this workload - but at most what you see for being in space, unless we got magic mana bars or other stats added on top what a ship has. Trying to make something that requires faster updates than current space, is insane to begin with, as network simply isn’t fast enough for things that requires reflexes to be played much more than 500km from the server.
All the trolls can go read What Are Good Latency & Ping Speeds? | PingPlotter and What Is a Good Ping for Cod? - Trickyfish before responding to the insanity claim on trying to have reflex based gameplay in MMOs. And if anyone feel like it, try examine the claim that 30ms is low enough you can’t feel it in the Tricky article. Keep in mind if you feel the difference between 60hz and 100Hz monitors matter, 60Hz is ~17ms per frame, try find a server even in your country with that kind of ping, this is possible, even in neighboring countries (at least in areas with small countries) but world wide for an MMO, nope. 100Hz is 10ms, so if you question 100Hz is enough and want 144Hz monitors, you want less than 10ms ping in games.
We accept that reality is that your claim is false, which is proven in countless 3D games already being such enviroments and faster than the current Eve GUI.
He means that, if you were to go fit your ship atm, you just open a window, but in CQ you had to walk over the the coffee table to open the fitting window there, which is slower than using the window in your neocom.
It does, because you need to open the menu to begin with, the neocom is always open, like i get that you seem to think it wouldn’t be slower, but there is literally no scenario where it would be the same speed
At which point why would you even bother wasting time having CQ load if you’re only going to use the default faster option, kind of proving my point there, why waste resources making a deliberately slower experience that adds nothing to the final product for 99% of people and use cases
Pointing out that your idea has no positive reasons for existing isn’t trolling, its called disagreeing
This isn’t the first time someone has tried to say WiS needs to come back for this reason and its been shot down, many many many times already with the exact same arguments, walking around does not add anything other than extra QA time and development overhead, it does not solve any problems that exist and it really only serves to make things slower than they already are
You can call that trolling if you want, but we both know its the truth even if you don’t want to admit it and even if it doesn’t fit your narrative
I already know this will not be the last time we get a thread asking for WiS to be reconsidered, but that thread will also get the exact same treatment this one and all the ones before it did and CCP still aren’t going to waste the resources to revive it, so, unless you’re going to wander over to the CCP offices and drop them an absolutely fat stack of cash and offer to bankroll the whole thing, its not happening
