Caturday

How do you name a cat?
Mine is Astero.

The problem with cats is that either they’re too stupid to tell their name in a casual conversation, or too arrogant to deign themselves to react to their name uttered casually by the hands. :winking_face_with_tongue:

But yes, it is quite shocking that we’ve come across some species which share a part of our ability to communicate through structured sounds. We really can’t fathom what is the world through a dog or a cat’s brain, but a part of that world is telling which of the endless random sounds we do are related to them being rewarded in some way that makes sense to both of us.

I mean, maybe a dog can’t aspire to anything higher than having its anus licked, but we neither know nor want to know…

So calling them ā€œMynameforyouā€ with that voice is good enough.

We’ve had many cats, and remember each one…

Baldufa :female_sign: (spinning top), ++18 years old from multiorganic failure
Menuda :female_sign: (little one) ++7 years old from cancer, we euthanized her
Unnamed :male_sign: ++weeks old, died the second day after rescue before we could take him to a veterinary
Taxi :male_sign: ++3 years old for unknown cause, I suspect a heart worm detached and obstructed an artery
Bogart :male_sign: ++9 years old from stress and stop eating, leading to liver and kidney failure, we euthanized him eventually
Dina :female_sign: (from dynamite) ++17 years old from multiorganic failure, we euthanized her, was our last one
Felix :male_sign: ++unknown, was rehomed after a sudden and absurdly severe allergy to cats
Lady :female_sign: ++11 years old from unknown cause, heart worms suspect again
Boira :female_sign: (fog) ++unknown, was rehomed after a sudden and absurdly severe allergy to cats

All them were rescues but Dina (rehomed to us), Lady (born at home) and Boira (rehomed to us)

Sandy - we had mice so we installed a predator. She was an orange tabby

Blackie - her daughter. We rehomed the litter and kept her. Mostly black.

Robin - rescue and rehomed her. Siamese

Tiger - rescue. We kept him. Orange tabby

Pearl - his sister. Rehomed. Orange tabby

Alley - feral juvenile cat. We caught and rehabilitated her. Grey cat.

Those are all cats from my childhood. I haven’t had cats since until the two I have now.

Daisy and Blossom - brother and sister.

I’ve been wondering how to answer this… I’ve never named a cat before. Someone else always wanted to do the naming. I never have. I named a goat, but never a cat. The goat was named Dodger.

I never realized that before. Ive had many dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens and I’ve never done the naming. Just that goat.

Stupid question of the day would be what happened to the goat, and did you care?

MIne is MIndy , but never use her name, she comes running when I make a kissing sound.

She on the other hand is very talkative, thinks I understand Cat

The goat got sold off by my dad one day. I did care. It was my favorite pet ever.

He was an all white Billie goat and taller than I was at the time when he reared up on his back legs. We’d face off and he’d rear up, dip his head down, and meet my charge with a very gentle head butt. It was his favorite game.

After hearing lots of stories, my wife bought me a full sized goat stuffed animal. It stands on my headboard.

You should have seen her live, the shade shifted with ambient light…

That is a very beautiful cat!

That’s an unusual place to use a sticky trap…

EDIT: The picture is Glenduil’s and I assume those are his cats as well. I just reposted it to inquire about the sticky trap, which I found funny in that spot.

I feed this stray cat twice a day with small tray of cat food. They are the middle range in quality and he had been with me outside since he was a kitten born under the unit block

He doesn’t get along with my George and even though I have tried to find him a forever home he is my outside cat who in the afternoon will even follow me when I’m outside.
