they let in serenity players who ■■■■■■ up their server.. now its happening to tranq
Lifetime access would be most disturbing offer. No single software/game/service that i know survived long and at all after offering it…
If you provide valueable products or services you will make money regardless of your monetezation model so you may as well pick the simplest one.
It is a mistake to blame your monetezation model for lack of success imo
This.
One of my favourite games had a similar monetary issue. It had a premium currency that people could buy bonds with to then receive interests from which they could keep buying premium as long as they had enough invested in the first place.
Great way to get funds to get a game started, I guess.
It died because it ran out of funds.
When no veteran player of the game is paying anymore, and all of the money comes in from new players a live service game has no sustainable way to continue for long.
Just to clarify about the ability to sell the skins in that list, I only checked a couple since I have a limited amount of SOE skins in storage…
I have a total of 11 different SOE ship skins (Cell skins are doubled for a total of 15)…
I only checked 2 of the Nestor skins on that list which can definitely be sold on Market… And no, I didn’t sell them at that price, was simply checking if it was possible…
However, over the years CCP has evidently changed some of the skins making them account bound and auto-activate upon being redeemed… I don’t know exactly which ones they changed but they obviously did it to some of them… Evident from the description on this skin that I have in storage… Maybe the older skins were exempt from the change because I can still sell and trade this one…
Shouldn’t be any rare SKINS. Not in the sense that they are literally impossible to get in some cases. No point in them if they aren’t available to everyone by some means. F the “SKIN market”. Same goes for apparel.
Why have players accepted the notion if you pay money for a skin its not pay to win?
I would also like to point out, that if you put a SKIN inside a can or a cargohold of a ship, then you won’t be able to sell or contract it. Those options disappear from under right-click menu. Only if the SKIN is in the ‘Item Hangar’ will you get the option to sell and contract.
Also, if you’re in a station that has no market functionality (some player-owned structures are like that), then you also don’t get the sell options.
Not sure if this could be the problem for some people.
Well, I guess the OP was correct in stating this special ‘Limited Time’ offer would flood the Market and sink prices for those ship skins… Seems they’re running about half price now compared to what they were a few weeks ago, mainly due to players thinking they can get a quick payday from them…
Unfortunately for them, those skins are actually low demand items which are currently experiencing an ever increasing supply growth…
Due to the rapid influx of more skins, I’m thinking the effects of this will be long term, basically turning the Market for those skins into a consumer friendly Buyer’s Market.. Sellers will be forced to undercut each other and constantly lower their prices in an effort to hopefully make a sale…
As for me, most of my ship skins have been sitting in storage for quite a while and even if it takes a couple of years for the Market to recuperate, I’m more than happy to wait…
yeah i hate this. i’d rather see new skins.
Most skins are ludicrously priced. It’s like going to a car dealership and being told its £50,000 for the car…..oh and if you want even the cheapest coat of paint its £10,000,000. That quite literally is the situation with many ships. Only the other day I saw 29bn ISK for a frikin Hurricane skin.
How do we get to the crazy situation where skins are worth 300 times more than the ship ?
And what is even the point of a rare skins market ? It’s not like capsuleers fly around with a tag that says ‘ Hey everyone…I own a 29bn ISK Hurricane skin but I’m stashing it away…nanananana ‘.
Even if you have it on your ship, most people won’t see it. Unless you’re a bridging titan or BLOPs, it’s only you looking at that SKIN. At least when you put a ‘‘rare’’ paint on your car, people can see it when you drive around town. Not in EVE. Just shows what people’s priorities are.
I don’t even see my own skins.
The only way skins will ever have any value is if CCP starts adding them to killmails, so people can actually see them.
They would still have no value because KM’s don’t matter either.
SKINS and apparel should be cheap. There is no point in a customization option if you can’t take advantage of it. Especially when it’s just for your eyes only anyway.
A pretty skin is a good investment when you do as much ship spinning as I. The Jita lighting really brings out the shine in my Heartsurge.
Skin value is disconnected from the economy.
Ship values have economic upper and lower bounds. Ship skins don’t. They’re vanity and if rare just what a madman or collector is willing to pay for them.
Also while a ship can get lost, ship skins can be re-used indefinitely. It’s a nice permanent investment in making your ship look unique.
Always realize that CCP will kill all collections in time. Number one thing is if you bet on something its a gamble. And given CCPs track record you can bet they like to kick over your sandcastle just as much as the next guy and that means your built up value in Eve. Its their game… welcome to Eve.
And reality too.
