As a rule of thumb you shouldnt have a different adjective describing the same thing. For example Dense Veldspar means +10% veldspar ore. But Massive Scordite means +10% Scordite ore.
But just to be clear +10% yield ore is not that interesting. The variants is a gimmick in the first place and should just be removed! Can already use skills, shipfits, implants, boosters etc. for more yield ![]()
So which name is most relevant for rocks you find in the wild, a geological descriptive name or a ‘transported’ name?
That’s a wonderful flavourful list!
It’s such a shame CCP decided to delete all this colour from the game.
Please CCP, bring it back.
Does anyone know if there any plans to iterate on the mining crystals?

The current design seems really bad.
I would like to propose 3 different base crystals. Class I, II and III.
Class I is cheapest but can only mine Class I ore. Class II is a bit more expensive but can mine Class I and II. Class III is the most expensive and can mine all ores. Then there are variants of each crystal. To start with only T2. But maybe a couple meta versions and Faction versions of each one?
So for example
Class I Mining Crystal
Class I Mining Crystal II
Class I 'ORE' Mining Crystal
Class II Mining Crystal
Class II Mining Crystal II
Class II 'ORE' Mining Crystal
Class III Mining Crystal
Class III Mining Crystal II
Class III 'ORE' Mining Crystal
(Inspired by how the new map groups ores together in classes)
There are a couple of issues with the mining crystals, but the naming scheme seems straightforward to me with clear types and descriptive groups.
The main issues are:
In fact only type B II crystals are in a good place.
First issue is that T1 crystals are worthless compared to T2 and as such only usable if you have level 3 but not yet level 4 in the respective specialization skills, which is a very very small use-case. CCP might as well delete T1 crystals and simplify the naming scheme.
Bigger issues with mining crystals is that type A II crystals aren’t really worth using. People either prioritize maximum yield over efficiency and pick type B II crystals, or they prioritize efficiency over yield and ignore T2 mining equipment at all, and use T1 or ORE equipment instead.
Whenever rocks is abundant you generally don’t care about efficiency, while if rock is rare you do value efficiency. The only time you use type A is if efficiency and yield are equal to you, which in my case never happens.
This means the niche of type A II crystals is too small. It should be significantly better at being an ‘efficient fast miner’ and not be only a somewhere in between type B and T1.
Preferably you should be able to become near-100% efficient under residue-reducing boosts with type A crystals, while type B still is then still the ‘high residue high yield’ option.
The way residue-reducing mining boosts work however that will never be the case, because those bursts are multiplicative and as such reduce residue of type B crystals much more than those of type A.
I think it should be the other way around, the residue-reduction should be additive so that type A benefits far greater and becomes worth using under boosts if you care about high efficiency.
The current problem with type A crystals also means T2 mining equipment is worthless in efficiency scenarios, which I also think is bad: CCP discourages players to train T2 mining equipment for valuable ores like r64 moons.
One of my miners doesn’t even have T2 mining equipment trained, an ORE miner is the best they can use for maximum efficiency, so I should just ignore the entire mining tree of skills. Fix this please, CCP.
If only the residue-reducing mining command burst was additive instead of multiplicative it could (nearly) completely remove the residue of type A crystals and give it a purpose compared to type B crystals.
The last issue with crystals is that type C II crystals are only 50% faster than type B II crystals at destroying rocks.
The entire purpose of type C crystals is to destroy rocks, yet for some reason a rock that takes 30 minutes to mine for a lot of profit with type B still takes a massive 20 minutes to destroy with type C crystals while forgoing most yield.
I think that’s a ridiculously slow destruction rate compared to carefully mining the whole rock.
Buff type C crystals to 200% or even 500% the asteroid-destruction power of a type B crystal. Let us be more destructive while we destroy rocks please.
What even is class I ore? And why would class II crystals be able to mine class I ore? Doesn’t that defeat the idea of bringing the right crystals to mine the right rocks? If we’re going to be able to mine any rock with class III crystals we might as well just delete crystals entirely, as this defeats the complete gameplay of bringing the right crystals to match your ore and style of mining.
But if you wish to discuss your new idea further, perhaps make a new thread about it.
Imo only strip miners should produce residue, and new Strip mining drones should be implemented.
Strip miners should be fittable on ships that can also fit normal mining lasers. And strip mining yield should be maybe 20% higher than non strip mining and then waste 20% of the asteroid as well on average.
This gives players a choice of wanting to mine with waste/residue while not needing a super complicated selection of mining crystals and the inconsistency when upgrading from T1 to T2. Few.
I believe both the raw ore and the pelletized form are called “taconite”.

I agree with Gerard, it is a real shame this happened. Now we must live in a retro black & white universe. I am reading all the post made by Adada and starting to think he might be the developer who changed them? He is trying way to hard to convince us.
@Namdor this is the first time I ever heard of taconite. Unless you separate it into 2 words Taco Nite. Which is what I would rather eat on Thanksgiving. Maybe we can convince CCP it would be better to replace all the game events with grade numbers, so we know which ones we really want to attend?

The overview has a name and type column. CCpls could have easily kept the flavour names and the new names by utilizing them both.
having multiple variants of the same ore disrupts the market. Notice Grade II is the most expensive. Order listing and modification fees already create major inefficiencies, and needing 3–4 separate buy orders per ore variant makes it worse. And just to be clear, market inefficiency = inflation. Peace.
Honestly I feel like this is an elegant compromise. Probably too sensible to ever see implementation.
It’s intentional.
Learn to play the game and stop whining.
@Meridan_Night @Aiko_Danuja You are both blocked. Peace

I don’t block you just because I disagree. Censorship in any debate, is clear sign of loss, and overall failure to support your point of view. I really don’t understand why you can’t realize and recognize that standardize naming is dull, lifeless, and not how we do things in the real world.
For example, I work with weapons; the M9, M17, and the M11. Which one is better? None of them, they are the same. All are 9 shot 19mm handguns. The only difference is the brands. The Beretta M9, SIG Sauer M11, and SIG Sauer M17 are just names of the same pistol with slight design variations.
The manufacture’s name these items. It is getting to the point, I believe you would like your grocer to rename all the bread in the store by grade? I believe early on in this thread, more than one of us has stated, the renaming of asteroids was done to assist the developer and not the players. The developers could care less about the player’s opinions. The majority of us in this thread have stated it was bad decision. You have yet to prove your side of the debate.
You’re upset about the change, and the facts already given don’t seem to be helping.
