I never did. If I had security I wouldn’t need to mine in a tanked Skiff.
why not?
and you misspelled about
It’s a Canadian thing…
Funny thing. I have read it as “How a boot ‘of’ NOOO”…and found it also fitting…
You all know the beer boot, right?
I agree that a person can say they find words offensive. I don’t find any words themselves offensive, I find people offensive, not words. There is a certain amount of common sense about how we use and choose our words. A coon dog is a dog that is used to hunt raccoons, we don’t call them raccoon dogs. When some calls a person a coon, we all know it is meant as an ethnic slur against their skin pigmentation. There are other slurs that contain no dual definitions.
I am against censorship in all forms. Recently it brought me to tears to see Dr. Seuss being branded a racist and having some of his books not printed and sold. The man is dead and has no defense against those who accuse him. I was raised with Dr. Seuss as learning reading materials, not once as a child did I ever take his cartoon images of people serious.
I have been on the receiving end of some nasty slurs against my ethnic background, but as I said, words are not the issue or the thing I find offensive, it is the people who abuse them.
As for a way to fix these video games where people find names abusive, they could have a way to fix it on the plaintiff’s end. For example; Let’s say I take offense to the name Long Dick Johnson. In game I right click the name and have it replaced on my end with a nickname. Everyone else sees them as Long Dick Johnson and I see Tall Richard Johnson instead. Then there is no need to punish the badly worded names.
Have fun!
Personally, I think all offended people should be put on an island where they can offend each other and then take themselves out.
Not an island, but we do have a new region… ![]()
Why? Do I miss the old naming convention of asteroids. To be honest not really. I am hitting a rock with a laser. And frankly it makes zero difference to me as to what it is called. As long as I am getting the ore out of it. And the resulting minerals is all the same. Making it no different whether the Tritanium came from veldspar, scordite, or was reprocessed from a ship or module. In the end it does not make any real difference to me as to whether asteroids are name, 2, 3 or given names.
Got to love Autocorrect. Turned it off yet again.. *SIGH*
it made the game feel more alive and realistic.
You must really enjoy mining. For me, it’s like being dragged behind your entrails…
What is not not to enjoy about mining? It uses the exact same mechanics as if one is going to PVP another player?
The sequence is exactly the same:
- Fit your ship
- Scout for a target
- Lock it
- Activate your laser
- Have drones doing away with your target
- Keep at maximum damage range
- Watch the damage statistics flow by
- Warp out once you dominated the field
Sorry to hear that, I find mining in low sec a challenge. I always run ventures, because they are cheap. The dumb bastards took away my mining scanners for using my warships and various frigate builds. I guess they didn’t like us alphas mining in warships, and taking gankers out as they flew on to grid. However even without that aspect, I still see it as a challenge of how much I can mine ( like a score ) without getting shot at or blasted.
Then I take my gas and ore and sell it in market for my PvP alpha account to buy warships. I suppose it just depends greatly on how and where you mine. For example, mining in high sec would bore me to tears too.
Have fun!
I’m with OP. Adjectives added flavor. You learned them over time. You were in a world where the inhabitants decided to use artistic license to describe the ore. Having it as just grades degrades the inhabited world to one of just number > other number = better. There’s no imperative to read the descriptions, to help the world come alive. It may seem like a respect of someone’s time, but it’s actually a disrespect to their ability to eventually understand. I suppose it’s the “No Miner Left Behind” equivalent.
Should’ve bought a mining permit…
i do it everywhere when i need to be waiting for something ore afk for a few minutes, but reprocessing the stuff from pohcven in highsec is most profitable
I agree. Thought about it recently because the introduction of Grade 0 ore in Exordium has completely ruined high-sec extraction metrics for the foreseeable future. I have warned CCP about this structural failure and mentioned it here previously. Honestly, it seemed like the previous development team was just trying to dumb down complex mechanics to a level they could actually understand.
Apparently, we also design game to accommodate the bots instead of banning them.
Anyway, not trying to highjack the thread. The old names were much better for Ore. They also did the same dumb-dumb thing for ship speeds, modules names, drone speeds, etc… it has been YEARS of this happening to many things. I can list many many more examples of this.
yeah, they need to bring back the old ore names
Even though it makes no real difference to me. I would not mind seeing the old naming conventions returned.
I am sad that no official CSM has chimed in on this thread. To my understanding they are suppose to take our desires before a developer? Even when they don’t agree with our position, they should still say something rather than nothing. According to what I saw in Mike’s talk about CSM, you are given free plane trips to Iceland to speak out at meetings.
Maybe FC wants to spoil the game? I just don’t understand how redefining a space rock that has been called something for more than a decade, gets renamed something so generic. Maybe those of you who want or just don’t care about generic rocks want generic games? There are literally tons of generic clones available on Steam. Time for EVE to stand up and be noticed or fade away into the obscure generalized space sims.
