CCP - Time to fix the forum rule for dispensing 'LIKES"

Eve Online Forum

An error occurred: Wow! You’ve been sharing a lot of love! You’ve reached the maximum number of likes within a 24 hour period, but as you gain trust levels, you’ll earn more daily likes. You’ll be able to like posts again in 12 hours.

For years this Penalty rule for dispensing ‘LIKES’ has been active while the ability to gain Trust Levels has been inactive… When these forums were first implemented, there was no penalty for dispensing ‘LIKES’…

If I remember correctly, @CCP_karkur activated the ‘LIKES’ Penalty rule and kept the Trust Level rule deactivated… Not being able to gain Trust Levels is a big slap in the face to Veteran Community Members…

I’ve been a Veteran Community Member long before these Discourse forums were implemented. It’s insulting that members here can never gain Trust Levels and display the ‘Veteran’ status with their name…

It’s time to either deactivate the “LIKES” Penalty rule or activate the Trust Level rule…

Personally, I’m neither here nor there on the likes thing. When it was originally implemented it killed the “this” spam which was good, though.

Having said that, what you wrote makes perfect sense for those who want forum titles and unlimited like sharing. There’s no reason for CCP not to make that simple change.

Can I just say that I miss the old forums?

Indeed. Remember how it showed a big character picture as well as corp affiliation?

SIGH…

Those sure were the good 'ol days, weren’t they?

There was tons of content and a slew of activity. It was also quite a bit less “toxic” than it is now. Participants were generally open to discussing the pros/cons of suggestions (they’re often dismissed out of hand now).

Smarty pants! :smiling_face_with_heart_eyes:

Are you sure your lack of gaining trust levels is not tied to infractions (being moderated) or something?

Because I’ve seen several people getting the Veteran tag next to their names over time.

I also read someone claiming they lost their Veteran tag because they’ve renamed a thread which they shouldn’t have done so got their privileges taken away by removing (and possibly limiting) their trust level (as well as their tag).

Also in case it is a global change not just a personal one the above might explain why they’ve limited trust levels (to limit user abilities and not having to do so on a per character basis).

Most everybody here has had a post moderated at one time or another… Community Members should be able to gain Trust Levels over a set period of time with no infractions…

I don’t remember seeing anybody receive the Veteran tag after @CCP_Karkur changed the rules for these forums…

Anyway, that doesn’t matter… Bottom line is if there’s no option available to gain Trust Levels then there shouldn’t be an active ‘LIKES’ Penalty rule…

Getting moderated is a right of passage on the forums. I think we should officially setup an EVE Forum Bingo.

Exactly, and that never stopped anybody from gaining trust levels afaik. It surely didn’t stop me for sure.

If you visit someone’s profile you can see if they gain trust level or not over time. This is why I asked about possible infractions as maybe you did something out of the ordinary which resulted in harsher punishment, getting your trust level limited.

When was this exactly?

Because I saw a couple of people with Veteran tags showing up next to their names but not sure if this was before or after that date you refer to.

Maybe the question is why CCP feels the need to limit likes.

And if they don’t intend to change that limiting of likes then if there is another method to achieve just that without linking trust levels to that.

But first it should be clarified what I mention: whether this is even a thing or just a false perception.

Edit:

Btw why this is all odd to me is because of this below:

  • DeMichael Crimson: Joined Jun 21, 2017., Trust Level capsuleer
  • Uriel the Flame: Joined Jul 19, 2017., Trust Level veteran

So unless the gaining of trust levels was limited after June 21. but before July 19. you should have been able to gain trust levels just as I did.

And even then was gaining trust levels not a global setting but instead only applied to newer registrations? Because that would be odd as well.

So how was I able to gain trust levels with around a month earlier registration than you did but you’ve been unable to gain trust levels?

Actually:

So according to this I’ve received it in 2023.

2017 for me - stuck at capsuleer…

Maybe it has to do with the requirements being high so only a low amount of people actually qualify for it instead of it being artificially limited by a dev?

For example here is an even rarer badge:

https://forums.eveonline.com/badges/31/admired

Only been awarded 42 times to this day.

Edit: And note that I’ve earned this even rarer badge sooner than the Veteran badge, meaning the requirements for the latter might be quite restrictive by default.

I recall I once had the title ‘regular’ which was the predecessor of ‘veteran’ when they were experimenting with forum settings.

Lost it a while later when I took a break from EVE, but never got that or ‘veteran’ back. At least, I cannot find the option to turn any title on anymore.

On the topic of likes, I don’t think it’s a punishment, it’s just a limitation on how often you can like things. I’m not against this limitation, it keeps the like-inflation in check.

After all, what worth is a like when some people will like every post they see or trade them by the hundreds in shady like-trading threads?

Keep your likes for the few posts you like!

This.

On that note I never ran out of likes since I visit the forums.

Same here, the amount of likes I can give is plenty for me!

And just for the record: you’re not even a Veteran so have less likes to hand out and it is still enough.

Maybe my restraint with giving out likes is holding me back on my veteran status.

Not sure as I am very conservative* with liking posts and still got it.

(*I prefer to only like a post when I actually mean it, not just without a good reason.)

Edit: Btw you’ve handed out 4.3K vs my 3.7K.
