Server performance has improved orders of magnitude since the early days. Every release used to be a risk if you didn’t have a long skill in training and even downtime was a problem.
If you can’t see performance improvements over the years, then maybe just leave nullsec all together.
“Space weather” has always been something we’ve had to contest with and has been part of strategic planning of alliancds. Its become less and less of an issue over the years, except when we keep finding ways to push the limit more.
But its just after New Year and the weekend. Like I wrote, CCP aren’t here to meet your personal expectations.
If they do address it, giving them some more time, especially in the holiday period isn’t unreasonable.
Here’s the problem.
Tonight only few people were allowed to load grid. Next batch (or something close to 1 for 1) was being allowed to load only as the previous died.
People were getting “node/capacity/population capped” (apparently) errors and some like myself were sent to point of origin after 40 mins in warp tunnel.
GF lad. Git gud. lmao
They created this, they made the tools for us to use and they built the mechanics.
All of this is on them and it is embarrassing how shitty experience they deliver considering how much they pride themselves with Guinness book of records ■■■■■■■■.
It’s a pitty that end game null sec ends up like that, maybe ccp and eve is still too young for it maybe in a few years servers would be able to handle it.
I would love to say come fight in faction warfare where the fights are smaller and there is no tidi but yea that’s just me wishing more would join.
i agree with you.
no-one forced goons to defend that keepstar. in fact, the BigBrain move would have been to let it burn. It’s in a strategically unimportant system with zero impact on the wider war. Why did goons decide to fight over it? Maybe it was a Drive-By gone wrong (jump in a bunch of titans, frag the attacking titans, boogy out?), maybe it was a Moral Decision made by leadership? I don’t know.
no-one forced papi to jump into a waiting super fleet today. I would argue that the BigBrain move by papi would have been to say “screw that strategically unimportant keepstar covered by supers waiting for us with open arms, lets go reinforce every Sotiyo in 1DQ while their titan fleet is stuck in TiDi”. Why did PAPI decide to jump in? To save the supers trapped after the earlier fight? In the belief that we’d (i say we because i’m a member of Horde at the moment) lose a few getting in but then reach critical mass and start trading favourably? A Morale Decision because after all the hype they didn’t think to back down and make a reasonable decision? I don’t know the answer.
In any event, a molasses, tidi shitshow of the highest order was entirely predicted. What actually happened was not predicted and, I and others would argue, not predictable. Titans landing completely unfit and the player discovers the fittings in their delivery hanger after getting punted back to T5Z wasn’t part of the planning process.
In any case, it would seem that the only way to win major bloc level brawls over important structures is to log 7k nerds into system immediately after downtime, hold grid until the timer, win the timer and continue the fight until the next DT. If anything is going to burn players out, that would be it.
INB4 CCP go and change nullsec mechanics to force multiple system fights even for keepstar fights.
Just saw the Zkillboard ■■■■ me thats pretty terrible that who ever has grid first wins super sad man, imagine farming for years and then not getting any chance to have fun with all that isk,
No, what we are saying is that the servers are very unstable with that many people logged in which is completely understandable given the current technology. That’s why if you want to get that many people in the system, you need to form up early and trickle people in nice and easy.
The Imperium did that. PAPI could have done the same, ie start forming up 4 to 5 hours early and then jump people on their fortizar fleet after fleet until your people load grid and are able to fight.
You can’t show up late, try to jump 6k people into a system with 5k people already in it and expect the server to be okay with it. No server in any game ever with current technology can handle that much stress unless CCP had Google like ressources.
On top of that, your leadership decided that jumping on top of thousands of torpedo bombers was a good idea. This whole thing was a recipe for disaster. There are people to blame for this and it’s not CCP.
Imagine that! Groups would have to have more than one competent FC. More people would have to step up to take responsibility and become more than just F1 monkeys. The horror!
It would be enough for Keepstars and maybe Sotiyos. Such big fights rarely ever happen over Azbels or Fortizars.
Personally, I would not be opposed to making the use of any AOE weapon in 10% a banable offense. Or, to be more reasonable, simply not allow the activation of any AOE mechanic in such a system. And not allow the use of fighters. Basically anything that worsens tidi unreasonably should be turned off as long as CCP refuse to spread out the fighting load to several grids.
And for those people who would go “But Muh Sandbox”: Your sandbox affects my much more negatively. The majority of people can’t have fun in their sandbox because your sandbox exists. So HTFU and deal with less sand to have more fun. For instance, instead of wasting my time as F1 monkey in a big fleet, I would love to zoom around the grid and hunt frigates and ceptors on pings. but I cannot because the server performance does not allow this.
You would be wrong for most of them. Many people join these big groups so that they do not have to take responsibility and can just enjoy the spoils other people worked for. Of course not all of them, sometimes there are good upstarts that want to do more than just that but it’s more an exception proving the rule than the norm.
Iam relatively new to this game but even i know, that Lag/Server Performance played a role in every big battle within the last 15 years, and it is widely know to account for that in battle plans, just as long. That didnt seem to happen here and a heavy price was paid.
Sure you can lay blame on CCP for it, but every IT-System runs on limitations and that is especially true for MMO´s and big PvP Fights.
IDK who won there, but I know who definitely lost and no matter what will happen after that. Firstly it’s CCP and secondly it’s null-sec alliances with their meta. Let me explain why.
It’s proven that the servers can’t handle this level of brawls and there’s no solution for this in the future. Therefore this mechanic will be exploited every time in the future. Moreover, the DB transactions and server code not working under ACID (atomicity, consistency, isolation, durability) principles (like real finance transactions). If you can’t load in a new system for 100% all the actions are rolled back. And there’s no priority on commands (aka a D-Scan of 4000 players can have higher priority than Jump In action).
Secondly, the attackers had many variants to act there differently. They come completely unprepared even in Saturday. It was a big mistake to jump in while there were 4500 players in and like 10000 additional player connections on the Node. Like 500 Supers on the grid is a big deal considering what happened in 9-4RP2. And such weird leader decisions are countless in this game story (like the last one in C-LTXS). I’m a noob and I know this. No matter that we have 64-bit clients now guys, during the 9-4RP2 we already had 64-bit servers. So, in the end the “Legacy Code” remains the same.
As for me. Feels bad for those who lose all that like this. Currently I’m training into capital ships, but I think I’ll not join to any alliance and will not participate in any of these types of brawls, maybe never. I’ll use my Dreads and Carriers only to do some little things. Huh. Just imagine. To buy Skill books for 10bil, to train them for years, to buy lots of PLEX, to spend even more time grinding resources by not paying enough attention to family and kids just to die like this one day… There’s no point to do this and jump into flooded system after three years.
Perhaps defense/reinforcement should be spread out across all structures owned by a given corp/alliance, thus causing an attacker to need to assault several at once, spreading them across multiple systems. I mean, good luck with the lore side on that, but CCP is crack-like addicted to big shiny numbers in the news ("$110,000 worth of space ships blown up in online game" etc.) and they would rather see the game die than change that, so they are going to have to spread the battles across multiple systems if there is to be any resolution to tidi and related issues.
I didn’t lose any ships in this battle or participate because I’m not much into Tidi battles…
I have to say though that it seems unfair that suddenly the ruleset was changed 10 minutes into the battle and just left the frontline Titans completely hanging out to dry. Should be some compensation for them.
If you want to cap system to 5000 or something that needs to be known, before things get underway and can be involved in battle planning.
EVE is a 17 yo game. It reached it’s tech & design limits whilst marketing & sales are trying to squeeze what’s left out of it by promoting what cannot be delivered anymore. Time to move on lads.
They deliver a working product for me, and for thousands like me. It’s only you folks who insist on having ridiculously enormous battles who suffer, tough poop…
I don’t think ccp will be happy becuase they know that there is a whole bunch of guys that farmed for years that now feel empty wondering if null is even worth it anymore.
