CCP's Changes

It’s even worse than that.

An increasing number of “players” are actually just alts.

I personally know of some corps where the ratio of toons to real life players is between 3 to 1 and even 10 to 1.

For those of you in Rio Lindo, let me 'splain further.

It’s entirely possible, even probable that more than 10k players were lost in a single year DESPITE having a captive audience (literally) due to the 'vid quarantines, but the numbers look better than they are because of more alts.

Yes, EVE has a lot of alts. Every account has 3 character slots and specialisation means people are in fact encouraged to make alts.

But is there any indication that the number of active alts in the game is increasing?

I have no idea, since I don’t know how many of the original numbers were just alts in the first place.

OP suggested that the player decline seems to have been 10k
I stated the decline might be greater IF there has been an increase in alts which would mask an even
greater decline in live players.

The only way my statement would be wholly inaccurate is if there has been an INCREASE in live players.

Does anyone REALLY think there has been an INCREASE in live players in the last year?

I shall say further:

My statement is based on a reasonable inference that when you have a metric that shows what might well be a false positive, in this case, that the negative (falling player numbers) isn’t as negative as it seems,
well then Houston, you might have a problem.

Since I brought up Houston, I’ll pivot to aviation. Many years back there was a passenger flight which came to be called the Gimli Glider. Why?

Inaccurate readings caused the aircraft to run out of fuel and it would have crashed had it not been for excellent flying and an emergency landing zone the glider juuust managed to reach.

There was even something fascinating about the landing strip but I’ll save that as a spoiler for any who go look up The Gimli Glider.

No idea. But has there been a decrease? I wouldn’t know for sure either.

All I know is that the login numbers are lower compared to last year. But whether those are bots, alts or live players is only known to CCP. My guess is that the amount of live players also followed that trend and has gone down.

The amount of alts could just as well have stayed stable or have decreased, which would mean the decline in live players was accurate or even smaller than shown. There is nothing that points either way so stop making such useless statements.

“The only way a broken clock would be wholly inaccurate is if it showed it’s a quarter past 27.”

I hate to say this but you’re also a bitter Vet… And yes, I’m a bitter Vet too…

As for complaining, you may not complain about a lot of the changes but you do complain about some of them, just like the rest of us bitter Vet’s…

Now I don’t know if you’re an Omega or an Alpha player, I hope you’re an Omega player. In my opinion Alpha players have no right to complain about anything. However Omega players, regardless if they’re Veteran or Newbie, are paying customers and as such have the right to criticize and or complement the service CCP is providing.

Anyway, from one bitter Vet to another, ‘Welcome to the club’…

Yennoe, chip truth? One of the major disappointments of me coming back is reading the standings guide and thinking, wow this dude really put in work and seems cool.

Only to find out you are an absolute quafe head.

Sure, people always have the right to criticize or complement. Nothing is holding one back from that.

Just don’t expect CCP to make any changes based on that criticism, if that criticism boils down to “I want this changed, because I say so.”

Criticism is fine as long as you can argue your point in a constructive manner. Constructive criticism usually results in threads containing interesting discussions. Unfortunately on these forums, most “criticism” end up as baseless whining. Whining that results in long, tiring and worthless discussions, because you can’t argue someone’s bad feelings away if that person refuses to present proper arguments.

I think, that is what @Shipwreck_Jones meant.

For some reason you keep saying that like it’s suppose to make me feel bad. At least I contributed something helpful to this community.

Aside from your constant snarky comments and attempts to instigate forum flame wars, what helpful contribution have you made to this community?

He has shown how NOT to write a post. It’s peanuts to us but it’s quite an accomplishment for him.

I’m thinking it’s probably best just to ignore him.

 You’re on fire. This Troll-Busting is very satisfying. They ( he? ) had to resort to flagging posts. When that happens, you know you made an impact.

I don’t think @Shipwreck_Jones is bitter though. On the opposite of you, he remains correct, and can accept when he is wrong. Which means, he can still find fun in the game.

FFS of course any body can complain. However there is a difference between complaining about something, that is expressing your feeling of disappointment, and making directed attacks as a result of disappointment. The former is expected, the later is entitlement and being a complete asshole.

And of course there is the total exaggeration, think of the children, Eve is dying. Those are the bitter vets, who have the belief that past was better. It was not, past is over, deal with it or become a bitter vet.

I’d add to that as follows:

After the dev blog dropped so many of the “hot takes” on it were along the lines of “the waste mechanic is nerfing yield”. Now the dev blog clearly states the waste comes from the asteroid and not what goes in the hold. And subsequently those testing on Sisi have confirmed that’s the case. Yet we still have posts about it.

Whipping people up into a frenzy about a bad update based on incorrect assumptions and no testing etc isn’t helpful.

In many cases I’d go as far to say that “bitter vets” didn’t really care what was in the dev blog. They were just poised at keyboard waiting to be a keyboard warrior regardless of what CCP said in the blog. The amount of posts in the first couple of hours after the blog dropped illustrates this well as there is no way anyone commenting could actually have tested the changes. Mind made up in advance.

There is a diffeence between criticism and criticism for the sake of it. Continually criticism of CCP based on incorrect takes undermines the valid criticisms and makes it easier for CCP to double down on the basis that “they obviously do not understand the changes”

It’s a mentality of “all change is bad” as opposed to “how do I capitalise on this change”

Don’t interpret this post as me condoning the change. I don’t particularly like the update. But the more people test it and report back the less concerned I’m getting.

There’s a reason why coffee cups have “caution: contents hot” written on them. It’s the same reason why people base major life decisions on headline articles from their favorite tabloids or two minutes of a “guest host” speaking on their favorite morning talk shows.

I keep hearing this term “bitter vet”. Its just as good as “complete newb” I guess. There’s a specific group of die hards on this forum that police the threads for any hint of a player who has experience and is unhappy.

I’ve seen it all today – you’re too new to understand what is happening, you are too old and jaded to see the changes.

If you like each change CCP makes , then great. You self policing types need to understand something very basic – forums are a way of players who are on the sidelines to find a way back in , or stay out.

Generalizing everyone into the newb camp, or the bitter vet camp leaves only one other group - those that act like CCP’s lapdogs.

The good news on these forums all the types have a place.

I won’t name you - but we all know who the troll base is. You are in capable of seeing things from any other perspective than your own , and that makes you poor forum companions at the best, and utter trolls at the worst.
