Changing the sex of character

I honestly think this is fine. What lore would it break? We have lore that exists and does absolutely nothing to the state of the game except show how incompetent the devs are in finishing story lines. What would resculpting a capsuleer’s gender be?

If you want to take other games, WoW has done it for a very long time and probably games before then.

And personally, if people can get more comfortable with their character and have them stay, what gameplay benefit is a female character to a male character? It’s literally a picture and icon change at most.

Sadly, I personally do not know if this will happen but I it could. Plus it would give more acceptance to the LGTBQ+ groups that play EVE Online. Plus aren’t a few devs in this group? Would be awesome if they added it.

For all the toxic people, y’all must be living a sad life if you need to be toxic on a forum.

I mess with mine of the time trying to get them right, or changing them to suit my mood or just because I like screwing around in the character editor.
For me more flexibility is always better than less and the more options if have access to the better.
If I had my way I could make my characters range from filthy space pirates wearing stolen mismatched clothing to miners with dust covered coveralls and grease under their fingernails to the really scary ones who almost never leave their pods with tubes and wires and implants sticking out of their heads synthetic eyes and translucent sickly looking pod goo wrinkled skin.
Miners shouldn’t always look like they just left the boardroom of some corporate meeting, pirates don’t need to look like the empress’s handmaidens, and industrialist shouldn’t need to look like they have never worked a day in their lives.
I’ve suggested before that CCP would do quite well if they kept all the free stuff in the character editor exactly as it is while creating a hell of a lot of new stuff that we can try on in the editor and then buy right in the same window. There is not one thing in that silly store of theirs that I want, not just because I think it’s boring as hell (I do because to me it is) but because I can’t try it on first as well.
If I could make my character the way I want I would pay to do it.
This would be a win-win for CCP, it would make a lot of us happy, it would make them a lot of money, and it would not effect gameplay at all and that eliminates their apparent need to sneak in pay to win type stuff that they said they would never do.
I have quite a number of characters, if each of their cosmetic items beyond the free stuff cost one US dollar they would stand to make an absolute minimum of around thirty bucks off of just one of my characters, and that’s if I don’t change my mind the next morning and decide I don’t like my hair.
Also note I haven’t even gotten started on ship and structure skins, I have a character training nothing but corporate stuff just so I can make my own corporate and alliance logos, if I could keep going with that and continue into my ships and characters the amount CCP would make off of me is embarrassing. I’m not alone I don’t think, I suspect they would find that a great many people would want to be able to do the same thing.

None. For the same reason players controlling multiple alts at the same time doesn’t.

I don’t think anyone in here has been against it for any lore or mechanical reason. But for the dev recourses that could be spent on literally anything else.

The Space Princess happily and PROUDLY stands with @Kimara Cretak with this! I see this, more than anything, as a QOL for players, especially those of the Trans Community. Nothing short of a CCP DEV telling me its not worth the “time or effort” will convince me otherwise.

Wow, it is surprising to me that so many people seem to be against something that has no effect on their gameplay. I see absolutely no reason that this should not be something that a resculpt should take care of.

Lets tackle some of the arguments against this idea/request brought up so far:

  1. Its “woke”: So what you are saying is that it makes you uncomfortable that someone might be able to change a line of text in a database somewhere and change the order of some pixels on your screen? Maybe seek some professional help if that makes you uncomfortable.
  2. Dev Resources: Yeah, I get it, the entire player base of eve is made up of armchair developers, but how many of you have seen the source code for the server or client? I am going to guess close to none (I am sure some former devs still play), so how about we let CCP make their own decisions on how much they value their dev time?
  3. Its a game: Exactly, so why shouldn’t someone be able to change their mind about the form that their character takes. You all seem to be fine with resculpt tokens being available to give your character plastic surgery. If you were really so unhappy with your character’s nose, why didn’t you just make a new one like everyone else before resculpts existed?

The sentiment here is likely well-intentioned, but unfortunately, that’s just not how things work. Unfortunately willpower and conscious thought rarely have much control over these sorts of things.

Those are the only things that have control over these sorts of things.

We are still waiting for plain old char rename, so this is pretty far down the list.

Being a developer this is correct, it is rearraging calls to code that is already in produciton.

character renames wont ever happen, especially since so much of eve revolves around name and reputation

That myth is long busted, you have seen the Latest Marketplace/Character Bazaar topics - EVE Online Forums ?

You have no idea who that person is from day to day.

Just make the resculpt token allow you to change your gender as well as literally everything else about your character’s appearance.

I agree with the OP. Let us change this during a character resculpt.

Some of you are hilariously incensed at this suggestion, for some absurd reason - if it’s not something that’d be overly difficult to implement, then I’d love to see it as an option. Gameplay notwithstanding, there’s no reason this wouldn’t be possible in the world of EVE, a place where transhuman philosophies and applied sciences are ubiquitously present.

Alternative Suggestion:
I’m quite certain the character creator - hence the resculpturing - can be reworked in ways that avoid even to have to pick a gender to start with, allowing for a new type of transition between the opposite ends of gender related morphology. Would require a lot of effort, I admit.
And perhaps that would be a more elegant solution without stirring up unnecessary discussion and making direct links with real world and real life questions.
