The only reason CCP wants to nerf this after years of it being completely acceptable gameplay is because CCP is now basically ran by chinese RMT companies. Leaving space for botting and RMT (and the whales they attract) is very common in games now-a-days (Blizzard and GGG both do the same thing) because a few whales can easily make up a large percentage of CCPs income.
Then what are you talking about? Because what I am describing is the inevitable consequence of your proposed change.
I was not talking about consequences, I was merely pointing out how your previous statement
This is not possible. Any way to hunt AFK cloakers would be a nerf to cloaking. This has been explained to you over and over and over and over and over again.
Was not necessarily true.
But it is 100% true. What you call “regular” cloaking is only effective because the existence of AFK cloaking creates ambiguity. From the target’s point of view the “regular” cloaker could be active (therefore dock now) or could just be an AFK cloaker (therefore it’s ok to stay out). If you remove that ambiguity then how exactly is the “regular” cloaker ever going to sneak up on anyone outside of WH space?
By being invisible. You know, that thing that cloaks do. Cloaks do not only hide someone to be in system for hours, they also hide your ship from the overview so you can pop up right next to someone who isn’t paying attention to local chat.
And to be fair, local chat is a bit too powerful in my opinion. I would support a change that delayed local chat or made local chat constellation-wide for less accuracy or something like that. But that’s another discussion.
And here’s the key issue. A cloak that only works against the absolute dumbest and laziest players in EVE is not an effective or balanced tool.
But that’s another discussion.
But it’s the one that needs to be had. Deal with the “local as an overpowered intel tool” issue and AFK cloaking ceases to exist.
Chat change is totally suicid for the game right now (Blackout remimber ?)
Ho and local is coutner by free intel in game map and agency.
I m agaionst perma cloack beacause it’s not a counter to anything. It’s just a golden bullet if you have 2 brain cell.
We remember. CCP made an excellent change that greatly improved the quality of EVE, but so many RMT botters and renter trash threw a rage fit that CCP’s accountants stepped in and said “reverse this now”. And just like every F2P mobile developer CCP picked short-term revenue over quality game design.
Ho and local is coutner by free intel in game map and agency.
You do not understand what “counter” means. Those things do absolutely nothing to counter local.
It’s just a golden bullet if you have 2 brain cell.
It’s only a golden bullet against RMT botters and renter trash. Against competent PvP alliances AFK cloaking is a minor nuisance at most.
I agree. Local as it is now is too powerful as an intel tool.
Yet AFK cloaking is too powerful too when it allows players who aren’t actually playing the game to put pressure on enemy players.
I think the game requires two simultaneous changes, one to reduce the power of local intel and one to reduce the effectiveness of afk cloaking. Combined, these would add a much more healthy environment where unaware players can get caught, yet afk players gain nothing.
Nope, it only needs one change: nerfing local. Once local is nerfed no changes to cloaking will be required because AFK cloaking will no longer exist.
Does anybody have any actual evidence that these scary people in local are actually AFK? I mean, other than imagination.
Depends on the way local is nerfed.
If we get another blackout you’re right. But I think the blackout was too much of a nerf to local, it was completely unbalanced in favour of the hunters who could still see exactly where people were ratting in the ingame statistics and dotlan, while all intel was gone.
No local in wormholes works, because the possibility of escalation is much smaller there. In null sec with cynos, one could bring in any amount of people through a single cloaked ship. There needs to be some visibility of people in the neighbourhood to have an idea what’s going on.
Delayed local or constellation-wide local could do such a thing, but in either of those cases AFK cloaking could (and would) still exist.
Often they aren’t AFK, except when you try to bait them with a backup fleet. Then, while you’re wasting the time of all those people in your backup fleet, those cloaked ships happen to be AFK.
If there was a way to know those cloaky guys weren’t AFK, then baiting would be a viable strategy. As it is now, I’d rather do something else.
And I think that’s a missed opportunity for content.
No,
Risk BS reward was totally wrong.
To many risk for so few reward. Was totally unealthy for the game.
AGAIN : You make hutner to strong, you remove prey. Unless they have give an increase of 1000 % bounty and mining in 0.0. Blackotu was design to FAIL.
But pvp bear want free KM with no risk. Ask CCP to make KM on rat and you are done.
So when they nerf cloaking somehow and the guys are still uncatchable and nothing changes, what then?
I don’t want to nerf cloaking.
It wouldn’t exist anymore. If local is delayed then you can just log off when you go AFK because when you log in again you will have some time to look for targets before appearing in local instead of giving an immediate “HAY GUYS IM HERE DOCK NOW” warning as soon as you click the log in button (and before you even finish loading the system and gain the ability to perform actions).
No, that would be your nonsense straw man argument. Farmers are free to add any arbitrary level of risk they want to PvP, it’s just that RMT botters and renter trash are incapable of doing anything but PvE and whining on the forums about how unfair it is that PvP exists.
Good point.
Okay, delayed local will solve AFK cloaking.
No you want free KM with no risk.
Other case you will ask to remove perma cloaking, and nerf cloackign to create more PVP opportunity.
And i remimber 2 or 3 year ago when CCP said " farmer are risk averse", i have use they’re own data to show when a farmer loose 5% of his asset win he “rage quit” the area… For a pvp bear (AKA perma cloacker) it was 2% of the loot value he had.
Who is the risk averse ?
Yes you get it. Nerf cloacking, give counter make PVP great again. And if you make pvp great again number of prey will increase, and number of pvp player to. Win Win scenario for content.
The only who will cry are pvpbear .
How exactly is there no risk when engaging in PvP? Why is the target I’m attacking unable to fight back and kill me?
(Answer: because helpless perma-victims can’t conceive of any other outcome.)
nerf cloackign to create more PVP opportunity
Your proposal does not create more PvP opportunities. But because you’re a PvE-only farmer who doesn’t understand PvP you are unable to understand the consequences of those changes.
(Alternatively, you understand exactly what you’re asking for and think that if you pretend it’s a PvP buff someone will be gullible enough to believe you and support your farming buffs.)
