Look, I normally play devil’s advocate and try to stop people judging changes too quickly, but… well I’ve only been playing a couple of months but the new skills panel is just… confusing.

It opened to the ā€œSkill Plansā€ page initially, and it took me a good 30 seconds of staring at it to even figure out what I’m looking at. It’s like… the opposite of intuitive. It’s scary because it’s so utterly meaningless. There’s 4 GIANT buttons across the middle, and I have no clue what they’re for, what they mean, what they do. They’re so big I actually didn’t even realise they were buttons to start with. Not only that, but everything’s got so much glow on it that it’s actually difficult to read.

Then there’s the… tabs? …at the top. There’s zero visual separators or indicators, so I had (and still have) immense trouble comprehending what I’m looking at. Like you’ve got a tab control at the top, with another child tab control below it, but there’s no consistency between them? What? How am I supposed to realise that they’re both tab controls? And then the child tab control is just floating in nothingness with no indicator that it’s in any way a child of the parent tab control. It’s like this was designed by someone who’s never actually used a UI before.

Let’s not even mention the four tiny faction buttons at the bottom or the ridiculously small scrolling section at the bottom that contains bizarrely enormous… things? I don’t even know what they are or what they do.

It’s like they thought that if they removed all the visual aids to comprehension, removed consistency between parts of the interface, made some parts unreasonably large and others incongruously small, and then didn’t add any useful information about what is being displayed that it would make it easier for new players. Was it designed by marketing? Do they realise that EVE is always going to be massive and complex and you can’t simplify the interface without simplifying the whole game?

Better high-level overviews are what will keep players in the game. Explain what the game is, what you do, and give an understanding of what various terms mean. The game has been around for so long that there’s dozens of terms and words that are totally meaningless to new players, and frustratingly difficult to find answers to. These are the problems that need solving.

What’s wrong with the character sheet? Genuinely curious. I get to see my whole character, which just seems like an obvious good change. Bearing in mind I’m a new player and don’t use the char sheet for anything.

I like the whole character image in the new character tab. But the skill menu needs some improvement. The current tabs do not include skill training price, or skill training time when I hover over them. IMO this is big issue.

Please consider that the skill UI negativity comes from +35yr olds that have played the game for +15yrs. If they don’t say what’s wrong then ignore them.

The old UI was horrendus, the new UI takes some time getting used to but is much better over all in design and performance.

If we complain loud enough, they ought to revert, right? :upside_down_face:

I hate the new skill panel. It’s unintuitive, missing core functionality that I’d expect to see in an upgrade (?) (why am I no longer able to preview the length of a skill’s training before putting in the list?), takes up a ton of screen space, makes micromanaging difficult…

It’s like they hired someone who’s never played Eve and told them ā€œmake something with pretty graphics!ā€.

I wonder if the new skill plans go hand-in-hand with the expert systems. Something along the lines of ā€œenablingā€ newbros to train their rental skills they paid for with expert systems in this new aMAazing!111 UI.

Meh.

Please give us the option of reverting to the old skills page. The new one is an absolute joke

Yeah, the new skill interface sucks bad. It’s huge, clunky, painful to navigate. I also prefer the old one.

Also, does the extreme number of Cassandra Tyrannasaurus Rex warp ins have anything to do with faction warfare? Because I experienced an extreme number of them all at the same time… My screen looked like the Goon vs PAPI battle…

The new UI elements are way too big compared to the rest of the UI. I use 300% scale to make everything readable, but this makes the new character sheet 2’ tall. IF I reduce the UI scale the new elements are fine but the old UI elements aren’t readable.

The new skills menu doesn’t allow me to see the actual number of skill points in each skill? And it’s more difficult to see what the primary attributes are without just looking at the category.

What is wrong with it ? Dude… everything is wrong with it, I could write down probably multiple pages about all of the stuff that’s wrong with it. But many others already did on reddit in 10 different threads, so there is no point to explain it again.

This is complete full on screw up. There was no damn testing of this crap and there is not even opt-in, they just slapped this garbage on live like it’s nothing.

It’s just a joke, the biggest blunder I’ve ever seen in EVE.

ps: Just read first 10-20 comments on this page, it’s always saying the same ā– ā– ā– ā– , same as reddit, that it’s complete failure, I can’t even imagine how someone could make it worse than this. And no way in hell someone actually playing the game made this UI.

I just stopped trying and manage using the android app. The new interface isn’t usable.

I’m just going to throw my 2 cents in here. The new skill UI is a giant elephant turd. NO excuse for it to take up the whole screen, NOT OPEN up immediately where you can start training new skills etc… Skill plans could have easily been implemented just like the simulated fits: In it’s OWN WINDOW, separate from regular skill training.
