Concern about Highsec Ganking, Fake “Consequences,” and Omega Players as Farm Content

For a less cynical post, here is the thing. The best defensive option for pve players is to not be on grid when the gankers come. If you are mining you need to be watching local and use Dscan to see them before they get to you. Play it safe and dock up.

If you are hauling use the mwd-cloak trick and scout ahead. Know what it sounds like when you are cargo scanned, and if you are while hauling valuable stuff, dock up and do something on an alt, or part out the trip with other accounts. Use scouts and a webbing alt. Fit a tank instead of cargo expanders.

If I am using terms that you are not familiar with, go to youtube and do some research. You will find videos explaining how to do all these things.

The pve player will lose the fight if they get caught on grid, as the experienced gankers know what they are doing, and don’t attack unless they will win. There is skill to ganking, and if you underestimate gankers you will get ganked. As a pve player you should not be caught on grid. Occasionally it may happen, EvE is not a safe universe, but if you are regularly being ganked you need to learn what you are doing wrong. If you are regularly ganked you are doing something wrong.

It’s gonna be pretty funny when the “3+ billion” in highsec ganking losses turns out to be, like, a Helios and a remote repping vexor lolfit.

Oh, CCP does fully support ganking, otherwise they would have removed it over 20 years ago rather than try to find a way to balance it in the game.

Never forget that almost every nerf to highsec ganking has been earned by the gankers. Concord is all powerful because gankers learned to tank them. Evading them is an exploit because gankers were doing just that.

Really, only the insurance nerf wasn’t a direct response to the actions of gankers, but just simple logic. If you cause an accident, your insurance doesn’t pay you for your damages.

Your insight is most valuable. Thank you for your comment o7

I don’t mind a wall of text, I just can’t stand a wall of nonsense. In response let me rant about what you obviously do not understand about the games you play.

People think there is only one reality, but there’s loads of them, all snaking off, like roots. And what we do on one path affects what happens on the other paths. Time is a construct. People think you can’t go back and change things, but you can, that’s what flashbacks are, they’re invitations to go back and make different choices.
When you make a decision, you think it’s you doing it, but it’s not. It’s the spirit out there that is connected to our world that decides what we do and we just have to go along for the ride. Mirrors let you move through time. The government monitors people, they pay people to be your relatives and they put drugs in your food and they film you.
There’s messages in every game. Like Pac-Man. Do you know what PAC stands for? P-A-C: “program and control.” He’s Program and Control Man the whole things a metaphor, he thinks he’s got free will but really he’s trapped in a maze, in a system, all he can do is consume, he’s pursued by demons that are probably just in his own head, and even if he does manage to escape by slipping out one side of the maze, what happens? He comes right back in the other side. People think it’s a happy game, it’s not a happy game, it’s a f–ing nightmare world and the worst thing is it’s real and we live in it.
It’s all code. If you listen closely, you can hear the numbers. There’s a cosmic flowchart that dictates where you can and where you can’t go. I’ve given you the knowledge.
I’ve set you free.
Do you understand?

My rant makes more sense and is nowhere as long as yours.

omg your 100% right. will you be my GURU?

Whilst everything you say is true, I think the OPs issues will not be solved by titbits of knowledge to help in this situation or that.

I think what the OP is really missing is that EVE is a multiplayer game and if you play it without leveraging the help of other players then you will find things difficult.

This doesn’t necessarily mean you have to join someone else corp, or one of the big alliances, although that would certainly help, I doubt Eve Uni’s mining fleets are ganked very often, but there are corps out there whose sole purpose is moving expensive items through space and delivering them to you wherever you are in New Eden. eg PushX and the Frogs, they will happily move things for you at rates which are pretty reasonable, I’m not a miner or a PVEr but I’m sure there’s other groups out there who can help with that.

EVE is a dangerous place, it’s best to go about mob handed.

Thank you for the advise. It is well taken. And thank you to the other poster replying to this your information is sound as well o7

Are you pretending somehow that ganking helpless victims is difficult? Multibox apps and discounted Omega are a thing. Do not confuse lack of interest in your exploitative playstyle as inability.

Are you pretending they are helpless?

:upside_down_face:

Why would anyone be helpless in this game?

That has not always been the case, so anyone who does put in a decent amount of research will pull data reflective of this.

Jove space seems pretty safe from ganking.

Zkillboard only records activity where at least one of the two parties involved are authed to the zkillboard, or someone posts it manually, its not the all seeing eye from LOTR.

Ask CCP about the ECM changes a few years back.

You are confusing clueless with helpless. Nobody is helpless in EVE. Plenty of people are clueless….especially about how to fit ships. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen fittings of ganked ships and see multiple slots not used, or I’ve been able to double the EHP of the ganked ship with just a few simple changes that take a minute or so. Those people are not ‘helpless’…..they just could not be bothered taking the time to learn ship fittings.

The old saying is very true, and applies very much to ganking……you don’t need to run fast to avoid a bear, you just need to run faster than the slowest person.

Not safe from bans though.

I offered help earlier in the thread, but if you prefer to stay the victim its your choice. And if you look at my zKill you see my losses and 90% of them were based on my own fault.

Quite the opposite. Most activities become pretty much riskless if you professionalize in doing them properly.

What remains is high costs in preparation, effort, knowledge and individual skill to handle the content you chose to do.

With ganking that is absolutely the same. The ship losses are included into the calculation and what remains is profit. An sometimes the profit can simply be “fun” via farming salt. Perfect reason when playing a game imho.

So, instead of asking for more “risk” for the gankers (what should that even be, they are guaranteed to lose the ship, if you nerf their Catalysts or demand them to use Cruisers or Battlecruisers instead, you don’t increase their risk by a single bit. You only increase their costs), ask yourself what can you do to counterplay. Learn how they operate, find weak spots in the tactics they use and then just don’t be their target. I do that for years and I can’t even remember when I lost a ship to ganking in DECADES. And I fly trough Hisec in haulers worth billions, ships and fits worth billions.

KNOW YOUR ENEMY and outplay him, thats really all it takes. Gankers usually catch the lazy and the dumb. Don’t be lazy. Don’t be dumb. Problem solved.

Really now….how can one argue with that. Very prolific, straight to the point logical answer. Sir, yes you do have a point but in some cases though the event still exists that if you get caught out there is nothing you can do. I take it from your very detailed recital here that that indeed is actually what you propose to try and avoid. Don’t get caught. Perhaps , this thoughtful mechanic applied and perhaps if successful in practice that will alleviate the distress. Thank you for your input o7
