Good advice in general.
Agreed, or in mycase sometimes, try not to be ![]()
To me this is “I played Subnautica and a fish bit me”
Yeah highsec isn’t safe and you can absolutely lose a ship. It isn’t just the way the game is, to me this is how the game should be. If players want to organize and harass miners or blow up ships that a player cannot afford to replace, that is player generated content. It can be painful being on the losing side of that content, but it is a natural and normal part of the sandbox.
I think that players need to adopt two main philosophies about eve. Everything is expendable and you should treat every ship that you own as more of a bumper car than a rolls royce. There is a cheaper way to make money and as cost effectiveness goes, you want the cheapest way to make your money.
Everything else is just degrees of acceptable losses. It is up to you as a player to walk the line between the content that you can afford to do and the acceptable losses that come with that content.
Then the whole “I got blowed up :((((((“ thing gets a lot tamer.
If your suggestions to nerf cheap DDs for gankers so they rely on CR and BCs it would drastically increase their cost, which is part of the risk v reward calculation. The result would be mining barges or cheap cargo haulers has much less incentive as a gank target. Cost is part of the equation for gankers, while not the only part, if it’s unprofitable it would be more difficult to sustain and requires more effort to prepare.
Saying cost is not a risk factor for gankers is a lie when all the gankers give out advice to fit for tank to boost EHP, making them commit more accounts and hence, higher losses.
Destroyers should cost at least 1 trillion isk to make things fair.
Hyperbole.
DDs are go to suicide gank precisely due to the high dps vs cost calculation. You know it well, don’t play dumb. My point was to the other guy who tried to argue that cost is not part of risk v reward, when it actually is. Even a non Indy brain-dead player understands if they suicide more cost than they gain, it’s not an enticing idea to do it repeatedly.
Miners benefit from the high ehp to cost ratio…
Your nonsense rhetoric applies equally well both ways.
As do haulers, mission runners or any one who is on the receiving end of multibox ganks. Higher EHP inflicts more losses on gankers, making them consider whether it’s worth their loss. My point was to the guy who said cost for gankers isn’t part of the risk factor, is just flat wrong. Cost is part of risk v reward.
Costs are not risk. Learn the difference!
A Barge or a T1 Hauler is not a good target even right now if you fit it properly and don’t be greedy.
Even IF CCP would make ganks more costly and even IF the gankers would gank less Barges and T1 Haulers, they would gank more Exhumers, more Marauders. So we would get the exact same complaints.
And again: if you get ganked in HS that is entirely on you. No ganking fleet appears right next to you out of the blue. Keep your eyes open, scout, use intel. Avoid hot zones. Just like everyone else. And voila, your problem with ganking goes away, it’s like magic.
I’m having a hard time believing that gankers are going around teaching people how to fit their ships, so that the gankers can commit more accounts and have higher losses. When you think about it, this just doesn’t seem to be a realistic claim.
What garbage. Ganking is not a function of risk, its one of time. Its too easy to use ISK to mitigate the time penalty for sec status loss.
Remove clone tags ( which are pushing over 30 million a pop ) and bring meaningful consequence to the activity, that is what is missing.
The words of a long time troll and a shill.
Its a false narrative to whitewash the intrinsic problem that there is no amount of EHP that will stop a gank, when the formula is (EHP/Catalyst Alpha)*Catalysts.
Wash, rinse and repeat.
No, at the point the gankers are shooting the target is already dead, its just a meaningless exercise in mathematics.
The problem is about what happens after, the protagonists are free to hide in a port for 15 minutes and do it all again, all the way down to -10 sec status.
Pathetic.
Why do you think you should be invincible?
Literally people who support the rampant HS ganking in this thread and other threads have kept on harping about fitting tanks to boost EHP to not be a easy target, force gankers to lose more cheap fits to deter them.
Some of you really seem to struggle with logic. Does it actually make sense to you that “people who support the rampant HS ganking” would want to “force gankers to lose more”. I mean, come on, can you try thinking?
How is it an ‘intrinsic problem’ that any ship in EVE can theoretically be destroyed?
I’d argue the opposite is true:
It would be a problem if there was a ship that could NOT theoretically be destroyed in EVE.
The equation for ganking should not be about whether it is possible to destroy a target, but whether it is possible to do so profitably.
And this profit is entirely chosen by the player, who can decide to put nice rewards on a ship with low hitpoints, or can choose to fly a cost-effective and well tanked ship.
As long as ganking the latter target is not profitable I see no problem at all. And if the former target is profitable and gets caught that’s a mistake as result of choices made by the player and not a flaw of the game.
TL;DR: learn to fit your ships.
If they would boost their EHP, they would not be an easy target - that would force gankers to use more ships and deter the gank.
Few gankers have enough alts to deal with a miner who emphasises tank over greed. Fly a skiff, fit it with tank modules and rigs instead of greedy yield ones, and mine in 1.0 security systems. It will be years before a ganker with enough alts happens by.
I agree that the current system is stupid, from a design pespective. But it is as it is. It’s not risky, it’s effort, knowledge and skill. Not respecting the gankers professionality is the first mistake.
Anyway, avoiding a Gank is absolutely simple and anyone can learn it. Every lossmail is the end result of a chain of mistakes. Ganking is no exception here.
I don’t see anyone give specific advice….but for example yesterday I saw a gank of a Gila ( I hate Gilas anyway ) which had a basic EHP of 30K, and 30% shield amplifiers on top of that. So basically 40K with boost. The guy seemed to have no idea that you can fit large shield extenders on a Gila. With a few tweaks, I changed his fitting to have 65K passive tank and 75K with shield hardeners. All without changing his combat setup. I didn’t tell him the new fitting, but I did mention that it could be done.
I spend hours checking out fittings. There are all sorts of tweaks and modules many have never heard of. There are even basic things like having the correct ratio of extenders to hardeners, or indeed whether you use shields or armour…..or hull tank ( for example with a Brutix ). Or there’s always carrying a couple of inertial stabilisers on board, ready to replace some low slot items, for when you want to dash through a dodgy area. A little trick I have often done. It is well worth spending a little time in dock checking out fittings.
