I’m not for or against ganking. Been dealing with it long enough not to worry about it.
I will say this tho: Damage Control Unit

What gets me is that people join a game that is all about risk….and then complain that there’s risk in it. These people have 10,000 variants of Farmville they can go play if they want to ‘chill out’ or watch Netflix while pretending to ‘play’. Yet instead they come to one of the few genuine risk games left and whine that its not Farmville.
I wish I could give your post more than one like @Gloria_Exercitus
Eve is one of the last games with non-consensual pvp. If one doesn’t like it, there are so many other games that cater to players that do not want it.
I’ve heard the X Series offers a lot for people who want to build a space empire, farm resources, bulld fleets of starships… everything without ever being disturbed by PvP.
Mining the belts in Ahbazon is pretty lucrative
Elite: Dangerous, too! You can walk in stations! Colonize systems! Jump around a full-scale simulated galaxy of like 400 billion stars in your personal carrier! If you’re not in the bubble or around Colonia, you probably won’t even SEE another player, and if that’s not safety enough, you can play fully solo!
No Man’s Sky also exists and gets free DLC on a regular basis! So many good options if you want a PvP-free spaceship gaming experience.
Moreover, I would even say the PvE experience in those games is generally superior to Eve’s.
Yeah the X series is fantastic. X4 is my favorite but X3 is really good.
tldr;
Your research completely missed the loss of security status for High Sec ganking, and Low Sec podding, and the expensive mechanism to rebuild that status: Clone Soldier tags.
A few years ago, Alpha accounts could gank. Not anymore.
The Eve mantra is “Don’t fly what you can’t afford to lose.” I read somewhere that you consent to PvP the moment you undock.
Personally, I feel that if you want to mine AFK, then why TF are you playing at all? Of course sometimes you need to go AFK, and you can have the thrill of wondering if your ship will still be there after your dump, or dock up to be safe.
There are alternatives to the pipeline gate camps. Haul during off hours. Use third-party websites that track kills. Sell your stuff locally, instead of risking a run through Uedama to get to Jita.
You mentioned Code. So you know they are dangerous, and like to kill miners, so add them to your contacts list, flagged red, so when they come into the system, your situational awareness heightens.
Honestly, you’re missing the upside of being ganked: the thrill. How many games get your heart racing like when you see a Catalyst moving your way? Not to mention the euphoria of surviving a gank attack.
You’re also missing out on the fun of effing with the gankers, looting their blue wrecks, looting the target ship (if you are fast enough), mining aligned so you escape when that Catalyst lands on grid.
Or trying to outsmart them. A few months ago, I was mining a Lookout site, and noticed someone scanned me down. We played cat and mouse for a bit, but then I docked, emptied my Venture of ore and modules, returned to the site, and got the hull blown up. Then I reshipped, returned again, and looted his ship wreck. I lost half a million, while he lost tens of millions.
Finally, in the scope of EVE, three billion isn’t really that much. It’s all digital assets, not RL money, and the only loss is your time, which, since it’s a game, just means more fun playing to rebuild what you lost, hopefully a bit wiser.
Sure it will stop ganking when ganker_isk_lose > possible_ganking_reward. This will be true most of the time. You will still have people that will kill other “Because they can”.
Where is that said or even hinted at?
DPS scales linearly with the number of ships, EHP has a finite ceiling. If it were practical to simply apply more remote repair in the same way gankers apply more damage, there might be a bare resemblance of a even contest.
There are already systems where an object cannot be destroyed, from the humble mobile depot all the way to a keepstar. The old system where 100 dreads could cyno onto a tower and reinforce the whole thing in a single cycle was badly outdated. Outside of those special cases, it is most definitely a problem.
Perhaps the mechanic change where FAX reps became subject to diminishing returns slipped past?
Therein lies the problem with the status quo. Security status tags only have value as it enables the use of ISK to avoid the impact of repairing security status. Remove the tags and the value proposition for ganking changes beyond a fiduciary consideration to that of time.
Nothing in that change would stop ships from dying, people will still be able to gank and there will still be crappy fit iteron mark v’s filled with skill injectors auto piloting to jita.
What the current cohort of miscreants are truly afraid of and inconvenienced by would the that their gank characters ( there is no way GankAlt_[01-20] are piloted by distinct people ) would have to train into other skill sets than those required for the meta MaxGankAlphaCataylstXXXSmokeWeed4Life fit of the day. There would potentially be a greater need to travel, participating in security status improving activities would require investment in more ships, more equipment and require more diversity of interactions not easily distilled into spamming through windows on eve-o-preview.
Not sure I understand you correct? What prevents you from remote-repairing against the DPS of a gankfleet?
I’m amazed you people still don’t get it…..despite having it explained to you a billion times.
In EVE you create your own ‘even contest’. A humble frigate can defeat a battleship…using smartness. Stop whining about lack of DPS and consider that those who are not ganked are not ganked because they are smart. Your brain is your #1 weapon in EVE.
Smartness includes fitting your ship with good tank. It includes not being so greedy as to fit your hauler with half a dozen cargo expanders that reduce your tank. If you are doing trips with a short round time…consider not even using a hauler. I sometimes use a Praxis ( 2000m3 ) fitted for 160K EHP and fast speed. It has never yet been ganked. Not just because of the high tank and fast speed, but also because the very act of carrying less stuff each trip means you have less cargo each trip worth ganking. OK so you do more trips….but then my Praxis is also armed to the teeth and can shoot suspects along the way.
I see silly people carrying 1bn worth of stuff in expanded cargo hold slow haulers with pathetic tank….and then wondering why they get ganked. They get ganked because to all extents and purposes their ships have ‘ GANK ME !’ writ large on them.
Ok, so at what point do you think it is fair?
You seem to think it’s not fair now, and ganking should be more challenging - so what is your full list of proposed changes? Should a t2 Catalyst do more or less than 100 damage? Should a security tag cost more or less than 10 billion isk? Should CONCORD respond in more or less than 1 second? Should the Talos cost more or less than one hundred billion isk? Please let us know your thoughts!
There has to be enough buffer for reps to land for a start. One would think that blindingly obvious.
Its irrelevant, the point where non consensual PvP occurs, the consequences for parties involved are hugely disproportionate. Security status should not be a commodity where people can use wealth to avoid accountability, its just P2W.
Yes, you are so right!
When a gank starts CONCORD logi should instantly arrive, buffing the targets EHP level by one thousand times. This way it will require at least 3000 gankers to kill a Hulk, forcing the gankers to try forming a real fleet rather than logging in a bunch of alts. Of course, we all know gankers will create enough alts no matter what is done, but this will at least force them to put a bit of effort into the gank. Isn’t that right?
Remove security status tags.
Its that easy.
Ok but how about a compromise, we can price security tags starting at 10 trillion isk per tag? Is that fair? We don’t want a new player to accidentally CONCORD themselves and then get locked out of Highsec - so there should be a path for people to buy the tags, we just need to find a fair price!
Aaaand? Then fit enough buffer for RR to land? What the heck do you even talk about? What you describe is exactly the problem everyone has when trying to counter enemy DPS with own RRs, that is no “problem with ganking”. It’s the exact same thing if I try to engage a hostile fleet, do a gatecamp, do a BlackOps Drop, baiting someone. What in hell has this to do with a ganking problem? You can basically fit any ship for high buffer if you like to, just do it.
You aren’t understanding - he wants the most unfit AFK solo ships to have sufficient buffer. This means we need at least a 100x ehp buffer increase for ships in Highsec. It’s only fair! Think of the new players!!!
