Hi OP. As another player who mines, I have some information and advice for you to help you enjoy EVE.

  1. All of EVE is a PvP space - high sec included. ‘Security’ in this context refers to ‘level of response by NPCs to actions taken by players’. It does not refer to an absolute state of inviolability where no-one and nothing can attack you. The only time your ship is truly SAFE in EVE is when it is docked at an NPC station.

  1. Because all of EVE is a PvP space, it is up to the individual player to defend themselves at all times. Thinking defensively is relatively straightforward, but can be hard to build as habits. A few common items to keep in mind when planning your mining efforts:
  • Am I in a high traffic area, such as near Jita? - the more populated an area, the more potential targets there are for a gank squad, so they are also higher risk areas. Consider a lower traffic area for your mining.
  • Am I paying attention to my free intel tools? - Because most gankers are career gankers, their gank characters will be in the Outlaw state and show in the Local chat channel with the Outlaw symbol. By watching the Local channel’s occupant list, you can usually see a gank group enter the system before they are able to warp to you, as they appear in chat before they finish loading through the gate/undock sequence. When you see Local spike with outlaws, start warping out immediately - chances are you will get away before they can land on you.
    • What if the gankers aren’t outlaws? This is where the directional scanner (D-Scan) comes into play. You can see pilots approaching on D-Scan up for 14 AU away, giving you enough warning to get out if a group of unknown players is descending on you. And if you are at a non-beacon location (something that has to be scanned down), you can see combat probes and know you are being hunted. Again: as soon as you notice this behavior, start warping out!
    • There are more tricks out there - check out flying aligned, for example, as a way to increase escape odds even further.
  • Am I making myself an unattractive target? - Flying a ship with expensive modules, or moving goods in a ship with little EHP, are both ways to attract attention. While fitting for tank is not a guarantee that you will not be attacked, it does reduce the gank groups that will consider you worth attacking - either due to increased cost to gank, or need for more pilots than they can field.

I hope these tips help you enjoy your adventures in EVE!

Not what I said.

Not counter to what I said.

Not counter to what I said. Smart and capable people are misled every single day in large numbers. Finding clever lies takes time for anybody.

I am worth about ten billion ISK and have a killboard full of the types of kills I want to have there.

You can measure success at EVE however you like. Its nothing on me. Get over yourself.

Well … kinda. Eve’s economy has some bits of classic economics flipped on their head.

Human nature creates demand, unlimited demand. Destruction of stuff in Eve increases scarcity.

EVE’s dumbest players gravitate to suicide ganking. They’re supposed to lose ships.

It absolutely is. You are whining and crying about how “high security” is a misleading term, which means the fact that highsec is the safest place in EVE is entirely relevant to the question of whether or not “high security” is an accurate label.

I am worth about ten billion ISK

I have much sympathy for your life of poverty. Perhaps if you got over your absurd moral issues and sold blasters to suicide gankers you wouldn’t be so poor.

Yeah. Just give us a couple more days. EVE is as good as dead. :smiling_imp: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: :kissing_heart:

You are.

It is.

Yeah. But its still not counter to what I said. “Relevant” is not equal to “counter”.

I am not even playing for money. I have enough to do as I please. I am not you. I do not want to be you. So I do not play as you do. Nor do I want to.

And I feel sure that sympathy is not an emotion you are capable of feeling.

Only if you ignore the fact that high security space is in fact the safest place in EVE, and has an overall very high level of safety.

Excuses for why I am poor.

Ok, whatever you say. I’m glad you’ve made peace with your poverty. This is a much healthier state of mind than your attempt to brag about your pitiful amount of ISK.

Over what period of time?

Also, is it really a “kill” if the target was going to die two seconds later anyway?

Damn. Do you actually care? I don’t.

PIcky picky. I have made plenty of ganks fail and also made gankers lose ships for scramming them. I am happy with my record. If you aren’t, tissues are cheap.

If you’re going to get defensive when someone asks you to break down your stats, then why brag in the first place? Kinda weird thing to do.

High is not equal to “higher” than someplace else. Thus why one word has an “er” and the other doesn’t.

I just told you what I was worth. I didn’t brag.

Take a breath Karen.

You didn’t ask for such a thing. I just replied flatly.

I just laid down the facts. Never bragged about anything.

If you saw bragging maybe your jealousy took over for a minute. IDK. Get a grip or something.

Nice job ignoring the other half of it. Let me highlight it for you so maybe you can attempt to understand:

Only if you ignore the fact that high security space is in fact the safest place in EVE, and has an overall very high level of safety.

The fact that some of EVE’s dumbest players lose ships no matter how much safety CCP gives them does not change the fact that “high security” is a very accurate description of highsec.

I didn’t brag.

Just like you didn’t accuse gankers of being sociopaths, and just like not all Renly Rohans are guilty of robbery and murder.

You are comparing one place in EVE to another to arrive at your conclusion. Its clear to anyone. You can delude yourself about what happened, but you can’t delude us here reading. Sorry.

SOME. You cannot even hang on to four letters. So…

Ironic you accuse others of being dumb.

When are you are going to get over whatever it is you can’t get over and stop taking raging at everything I say and dragging other threads around all day?

BTW

BOO! :ghost:

Are some carebears also sociopaths?

I imagine so. I cannot see them managing the role play very long though.

So then wouldn’t it be better to say “some EVE players are sociopaths”?

And if so, why even bother bringing it up?
